Thanks. Most helpful video I've seen so far. Easy to understand graphics. Great!

Thank you so much. Calculating for Zero point really improved the imaging to my ears/preference. I'm using Kenwood 1057xr HU. Now my left driver setting is dialed in. Sorry passengers.

I had no idea about Zero Point and I am using the built-in time alignment software of my pioneer headunit and I didn't like it. Will try this later, thank's a lot!

I don’t know if this is “wrong” but I’m running a loopback ref in REW with my Scarlett Solo. It gives you the delay distance in the notes after each measurement. So Ends up (for me) showing around 7ft and I have my subs at 0 delay w reverse polarity... sounds great. Should be noted aligning sub to system is completely different process than this video.

Do you know how to correctly set up the time alignment for a Mazda Miata NC using an Alpine Halo9 ilx-f409?

Hey , I have dash speakers in the front ( 4 inches ) RMS 22w and peak 120w. And rear are RMS 75w 6×9. Both are of JBL. How do I set the speaker levels on these two different speakers to have the correct time alignment and stereo effect? I have the rear at 0 and the fronts at +2 speaker levels. Are these okay ? I have already time aligned them using distance.

Any idea if the jbl dsp4086 DSP/AMP combo "does the math"? I seem to be losing all deep bass when I leave the subwoofer at ZERO, and align the front stage from the difference in its distance (it has inches). If I invert phase, the deep bass comes back but the sub definitely sounds out of phase and any slight rattles in my doors become more obvious. It doesn't really sound right, either, if I enter the actual distances (in inches) from the drivers.

The JBL DSP Delay scale unit conversion is screwed up. The time (ms) scale should be inverse to the distance (inch/cm) scale, because the bigger the distance, the lower the delay should be. The JBL scale doesn't do that conversion. For example, let's say you set CH1 to 10" and CH2 to 20", because CH2 is further away (double the distance) than CH1. All good. Except that if you change the units to "ms", the same scale now shows CH1 0.73 ms and CH2 1.47 ms. Basically now it reads that CH1 is further away than CH2. Tbh I have no idea which scale works correctly.

So this would bring the staging in front of the driver's seat right? Like from the left most portion of the vehicle to the middle of the dash? Now if you leave the speakers alone without time alignment, wouldn't this bring the staging to the center of the dash? I would think this would be more desirable for overall staging throughout all seating positions. correct me if I'm wrong or I'm missing something.

You’re missing a few things but what you asked is logical and a valid question. TA allows us to to create the illusion that we are equidistant from the stereo speakers. The first part of the video has a great visual and mnemonic that explains it quite well if you can go back and watch it. TA gives each speaker an impulse alignment so that the sound from each speaker arrives at your ears at the same time which in turn creates that depth and stage that is signature to stereo sound.

If you don't do time alignment, the speakers you are closet too, will be totally dominant. Sounds ugly. If you do time alignment the proper way with a tape measure, to your heads location in the drivers seat, you can get the sound to be centered in the middle of the dash and hopefully top of dash height, depending on speaker locations.
