    Very similar to the set I made only I had a 330 in front as you stated was an option. I did set a foothold on a drowning rod but my pan tension was to light, got a muskrat in it. I still have to nightlatch my new traps, I'll have to rewatch you vid on that again. I have learned a ton from your videos, thanks for what you do.

    I like your set using the u-shaped approach. I used to use 750's but went to TS-85's since they are easier to set on my knee in the water. Thank you for the trapping vid. I've missed you making them. Trapping is what attracted me to your channel a few years ago.

    @kevin_raney

    4 жыл бұрын

    I've caught beavers with 1.5 for raccoons, but it's not ideal. So a #3 would work with a 6.5" jaw spread, but probably not the first choice. Just keep in mind that large beaver have big back feet, so the smallest that I use is a bridger #5. I have bridger #5's, ts-85's, cdr's, and 750s for beavers... The 750s are nice, because the trigger system holds down the lose jaw.

    BENEFITS OF BEAVERS: • Beavers are considered a keystone species because they develop wetlands that attract and support literally thousands of other species. Beaver wetlands are among the most biologically productive ecosystems in the world. Beavers increase plant, bird and wildlife variety, improve water quality, and raise salmon and trout populations. Beavers are biodiversity in action. • Beaver dams hold water on the land and the weight of it replenishes groundwaters and raises the water table, mitigating the worst damage from droughts. • Beaver dams slow water speed, which greatly reduces erosion and prevents 'incised' or deeply eroded streams that don'ts support much plant or animal life. • Beaver ponds provide flood control by gradually releasing water and redcing the height of the flood waves, eliminating or reducing dama to human structures. Beaver dams also smooth out water flow by increasing the area wetted around the stream, which allows water to seep into the ground and slows its flow. • The slow flooding that creates ponds and results in green 'beaver meadows' slows the spread of wildfires. • Beaver ponds remove pollutants from streams by metabolizing the decomposing them via the bacteria in the cellulose-rich bottom of a beaver dam. • Beavers are family-oriented and beaver pairs are monogamous who have kits every year, with two-year old kits living in the family home. If you trap beavers to kill them you are destroying families and ruining ecosystems that they work hard to create. I am sure God does not look kindly on your wanton destruction of His creation.

    Beavers are also destructive. Flooding crop ground and destroying ornamental trees to name a couole issues. Yes, they are beneficial in certain places while destructive in others. Your right, but there are instances they need removed. Explore both sides of the argument for yourself.

    That's more like a 35lb beaver! I wouldn't advise setting a leghold drowner at that site as the water is not near deep enough to drown a large beaver caught by a back leg. If it's not at least 4 feet deep then I use a conibear to ensure a humane catch. It could still very easily reach the surface to get air. The anchor weight is also on the light side. I use 40lbs of gravel in a feed bag as I've had 25lb weights walked to shore. If you used something that light on a hard bottom, a big adult beaver will just walk your weight to shore resulting in a non-humane catch . The beaver will most likely then chew its leg off or you'll have a live animal in your trap when you check your set (could be 2-3 days later). You should mention that you should never use this set adjacent to a public roadway or in any area where there's a chance of someone's pet dog being off leash during a walk. A real bad day for the dog, and the trapping industry when the dog steps in your trap when it comes to your castoreum lure.
