Too many variables to answer that Dennis. You have to know your ground. Where you are in south Louisiana, I would suggest 2 inch Pogo stakes. You get a lot of moisture in February so the big washer should hold for you. It's just my thoughts. So far I've not been lucky enough to find any ground to to trap in south Louisiana but I keep looking for a crawfish farmer to let me in. Wish I could help you more.

The son of a professional trapper my dad started traveling in 1970 when he got out of Vietnam Vietnam and I am 50 years old now myself and I've been a professional Trapper most of my life and I've trapped hundreds and hundreds of beaver in my lifetime you do not Target a front foot catch without drowning them you're not holding them alive and not drowning them by the front foot and they're staying there every time there's no way I can grab a beavers front foot with my hand and twist it completely off with one hand and it snaps the front foot right off so I don't think you're being honest saying that you're holding Beaver by the front foot and you're not drowning them and they're staying there alive waiting for you to come get them why would you tell people that that's terrible advice and why would you try to catch a beaver by the front foot and not drowned it that's terrible advice and you're not being honest about holding them beaver buy the front foot and not drowning them and then being alive waiting for you to come back and get them you're losing a lot of beaver and you're catching a lot of front foots because a man can twist the Beavers foot off with one hand and snap it right off so I know a beaver and a trap I've seen them I know what it does I've got hundreds and hundreds of them and I've caught a lot of front feet too that's why I try to get the back foot and I always drowned them I don't set any sets that are not drowning sets that's terrible advice to teach people that it's like you're telling them how to do it wrong so that they lose a lot of beaver that's terrible terrible advice and you're not being honest if you're going to say that you don't lose any Beaver catching them by the front foot and not drowning them immediately

Hey Dale you may have mentioned it elsewhere but what is the advantage of not drowning the beaver (if you can). Also thanks for showing and explaining this set I have a spot this will work out great this winter post deer season
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531
Жыл бұрын
You don't spook the other beaver in the colony as bad by not drowning or conibearing them 284Winchester. Plus you have the perfect opportunity for multiple catches by having a live decoy on the bank. And lastly you can release nontarget species like otter after the season closes

So I have to drown where I am. Does it matter which direction the drowner is pointed? As in upstream or downstream? Wondering if beaver always turn and go with the current if they get caught or will a drowner going upstream work?
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

Mike either put the drowner straight out or angle it down stream
Do you use offsets for front foot catches?

Just one question HOW WOULD YOU ANCHOR THE TRAP THE BEST WAY??? THATS THE ONLY THING IM WORRIED ABOIT THIS SEASON
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

Wish I could help you more.
how do you stake your land end? I have lots of sand.
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

I use 2 inch Pogo stakes in sand. If I feel like 1 won't hold I put down 2 like cross staking a coyote set Jesse. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

Dead beaver spook the others in a colony. Plus I can release nontarget otters this way too Shane
really question you only losing 1 in 100 ?for a front foot catch especial using closed jawed trap like the victor? and for your information a beaver never drowns he suffocates , check it out

And yes I'm well aware of the fact a beaver technically doesn't drown and dies of asphyxiation. But I'm well aware of the fact that we ALL say drowning rods drowning wires drowning cable Not one trapper I know calls the asphyxiation rods or wires or cables

This is what happens when you teach at an expo Tennessee about 7 years ago I showed this application nice to see this guy made a pretty cool video and he's pretty close in the technique he's just missing apart must have been talking to his friends then that's what happens when you don't pay attention I didn't put any kind of patent on the set so it's okay for someone to share it but really not cool that he acts like he came up with it this was all me and I learned this from a guy 40 Years of beaver trapping before me
