The Baltimore Orioles: Professional Baseball's Avian Flu

I had an inkling that the Orioles were fruitlessly trying to keep up with the big boys in their division, but I doubt anyone was expecting this. They are... words can't describe it. Nearly everything has gone to shit. They are deep into the tanking sweepstakes. Remember that the Orioles were trying to compete for a playoff spot this season.
So what has caused this collapse into the basement of the league? With the powers of hindsight (and disapproval), this video will allow you to learn... something? Maybe?

I don't care that they're probably going to get swept. The fact that the Orioles won 100+ games and significantly outperformed franchises like the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and San Diego Fraudres despite having far less money than those clubs is way more impressive than winning the World Series, imho.

Being a Giants fan, I would add Mike Yastrzemski to the list of ex-Orioles who broke out after leaving Baltimore. He gets drafted by the Orioles in 2013, but it wasn't until he was traded to the Giants before 2019 that he gets promoted to the majors. Not only that, he hits his first MLB homer against (you guessed it) the Orioles, finishing the year with 21 home runs.

The only thing making them look close the last two years is that the AFC is a tire fire and the North has been leading the march to the bottom. When we can sweep our division slate by showing up without a game plan and dicking around for three quarters, you know something is wrong. Remember, the Ravens scooped up that playoff spot the Bills forfieted with the Peterman "experiment" and forfieted it right back to them care of defensive ineptitude par excellence.

Ah Baltimore, the city with so much success in sports that the Orioles look like a red headed step child in comparison. The success of the city, both nationally and internationally is legendary. From the Baltimore Colts strangle hold on the American Football League, to the Ravens fucking over the Browns and winning a Super Bowl mere years after the move. To a comparatively little known team called the Baltimore Stallions just making the Canadian Football league their bitch en route to the first and only Grey Cup won by a non-Canadian city, these accomplishments make Baltimore the most successful city in all of Pro football history. To Olympic gold medal athletes. Yet somehow the Orioles are so bad they haven't even acquired a sliver of this success purely through Osmosis.

Tfw the Baltimore riots were actually better for the city than their baseball franchise
Heyyy! That Santander guy is pretty good now...everything else is still the same *sigh*
Need a Orioles vid that solely focuses on Angelos and his thin skin. Imagine suspending your lead play by play for saying a stat.
Your 150K of subs is the mark Chris Davis intends to reach before the all-star break. Well done, sir.
Although this is meant as humorous parody and poking fun, the reality of this really goddamn hurts. Great vid though Tree!
Just came back to this video 5 years later just after Santander hit a Grand Slam and the Orioles are in first place. What a difference 5 years can make.

And they still find away with suspending their announcer when he said a fact that the O’s did suck but not anymore. But apparently the owner has thin skin.

@@jrvc20turns out that statement was a illusion and Baltimore won 100 games only to be swept in the first round. seems the only bird team who can actually win playoff games since 2014. Are the jays (don’t mention 2020-2023😭)
I’m an orioles fan who lives in Baltimore and trust me it gets worse every year:(
You can now add Dylan Bundy to former Orioles pitchers that got better with a new team

Camden Yards while beautiful was a ploy to keep the Orioles in Baltimore. Remember the Orioles discussed leaving Baltimore in the 80’s but after the whole Colts fallout the city refused to make the same mistake and built them a terrific stadium so they wouldn’t leave.

Correct. The Orioles had many of the same complaints about Memorial Stadium the Colts did (poor location far from the highway, lower level seats blocked by pillars that held up the upper level, poor plumbing, no skyboxes, tight office space etc) Plus Edward Williams was a lawyer based in Washington D.C.. Moving the team there would have been convenient for him. It was before my time (29 years old) but Memorial Stadium just wasn't that great of a facility.
This is honestly one of the best videos you've ever narrated. Fucking SCATHING.
In April 2002, Peter Angelos will sell the Orioles to a Baltimore-based ownership group consisting of Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, Allegis Group co-founder and CEO Jim Davis, Allegis Group president Andy Hilger, filmmaker John Waters, former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler, former Olympian Michael Phelps, former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. for $2.75 billion.
Orioles won’t be the same until Peter Angelos croaks.

Fans have wanted Angelo off the team for 2 decades. Always signs in attendance saying we need a new owner.
Even though I’m a die hard yankees fan, the orioles have always had a soft spot in my heart because of their cold ass uniforms and manny machado

Gary Thorne did the Minnesota High School State Hockey tournament a few years ago... It was fantastic and he hasn't lost it... get him back to the NHL
Now the 2023 orioles have the best record in the AL conference amazing

Can you please do John Fox: A Legacy of Failure? Dude has been to the Super Bowl 3 times and lost each time. He also stole money from the Bears in his last 3 years of coaching. For the sake of me and my father, please make this happen
As an Oriole fan, I've been saying we were done since after that wild card game in 2016. Yet, despite my constant concerns, as well as other fans of the black and orange, the team never seems to listen. As much as I liked Buck, I've come to be a little annoyed by him. He'll probably go as soon as we lose Machado, Jones, and Britton. Besides, who puts in a starter to close out a game?! I was one of the first fans to actively question such a decision. It got us in the ass and threw us into this mess. At least we have the Ravens and the Caps. Fuck you, Angelos!

Going to Camden Yards is such a great experience that it's a shame that the team is a zombie.
I've been watching you religiously since you were at 5,000 subs and this is the best birthday present ever. Thank you Tree!!
As an O's fan for 32 years, this is the intervention we needed to have. THANK YOU TREE!
