The Balkans in Flames - End of Yugoslavia | Full Historical Documentary

Ойын-сауық

The Srebrenica massacre is a wake-up call for the international community, which decides to intervene after four years of war. That same year, the warring parties sign a peace treaty.
But war soon breaks out again, this time in Kosovo. NATO intervenes and ends the fighting - a controversial mission without a UN mandate. The Balkans are still regarded as a powder keg.
The wars of the 1990s have set the region back economically; reconciliation is still difficult today.

the documentary is called "Yugoslavia the avoidable war"... just like the Western world plays cowboy and indian-game in Ucraine they did it before in Yugoslavia, I am from the West, but I dislike the hypocrisy here, this doesn't mean I sympathise with either Russia or Serbia at all. One question: where was the Western world in 2014 and 2018 when the conflict already raged in Eastern Ucraine? Answer: at the Olympic Wintergames in Sochi (2014) and at the World Cup in Moscow (2018)

Dude come on: when the West does nothing (in the beginning of the civil conflict between Bosnia, Kosovo and Serbia), the west gets blamed why don't you do anything. When they finally do interfene, they get blamed for somehow invading. Also in Ukraine; when is it a civil war and when does it begin to be an international conflict / war? Well in Ukraine its pritty clear now; its an international conflict and full scale war. Russia is also using the Bosnia war for their own perspective; somehow blaming NATO for invading Serbia and thus somehow justifying the invasion of Ukraine But NATO did not invade Serbia, it was an intervention to stop the massacare of innocent people. Russia on the other hand has started a full scale war in Ukraine. Of course complete different situations

Where were you when the Western world rages wars of aggression in: Iraq 1, Libya, Syria, Yugoslavia, Iraq 2, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, Grenada, Afghanistan, Yemen, and many, many others. These wars were never about human rights, and of course they will try to justify and to create false narratives to whitewash themselves. You don't sympathize with the Russians and Serbs getting slaughtered by extremist neo-fascist and radicalized forces, that the West propped up, funded and encouraged? Then do you at least sympathize with the people that your leaders are bombing and killing, all in the advancement of some sick ideology and hegemony?

But it seems that commandant took his mission not to seriously or didn't had enough knowledge for accepting that crucial mission and because of their lek of firepower and mistakes, allot of innocent people lost their lives!

@hensonlauraBosnians and Albanians are a "different" type of Muslims... men usually wear western attire, and very few women in the remote areas barely wear the Muslim clothing... although after the war probably because some Arabic countries bring their clothes and propaganda there... you might see a few Muslim garbed women. Otherwise, it is a very open society there... there are more muslims in the streets of New York, Detroit etc, than in Bosnia and/or Kosovo. Yes, nominally they are Muslims due to 500 years Ottoman rule, but they are Europeans nonetheless. The war with Serbia is more political, and the "schism" between estern politics (EU) and Russian influence (over Serbia).

A lot of historical inaccuracies in this documentary, I was expecting better. Many of the mistakes were made in the introduction of hostilities in Kosovo. The KLA did not come out in the open until November 1997 and it by no way had 1000 fighters at the beginning. Such membership numbers were not met until the summer of 1998, long after international media like the one Ms. Silber worked for had plastered the province on its headlines.

A rather biased and specific view. If you don't start by studying the extrernal political forces, particularly the American neocons from the Carter/Reagan era and their European pawns, you completely miss the point : Jugoslavia was deliberately destabilised from the outside which allowed old internal problems to surface .

Unfair to call Bosnian Republic president a Dayton “procrastinator” when the Bosniaks were the only ones who were ultimate victims here and who worked to Balkan peace, multiethnic and civil European society. Late Izetbegovic said on the occasion: “This is not a just peace, but my people needs and wants peace.” Bosnia was also the only one of the three that didn’t invade others or committed systematic ethnic cleansing or genocide!

WAR started when mohammadian president scrap signed piece agreement with Serbs because of direct influence of USA ambassador Zimerman. They promissed him unitarian state where mayority will be m8hammadians therefire ISLAMIC STATE. And that abdoola couldn't resist and tore up agreement which his hand signed after 24 hours. The atrocities were committed on both sides. I’m not downplaying the repulsive violence of that war, however, what I find conspicuously missing here is all the stoking of old hatreds that was perpetrated by interested parties before anyone even knew there was fighting. Nobody wanted to secede till the USA quietly invested in nationalized victimhood. If you don’t think NATO exploited the fall of the USSR & related inflation in Yugoslavia then I have a nice new war to sell you.

Regarding the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, it is important that we do not decontextualize crimes and events. There is no equivalency between individual instances of war crimes and systematic crimes against humanity. The "all sides did it" discourse is revisionism. There's a huge difference between crimes committed by individuals and crimes that are systemically planned. Bosnian Serb and Bosnian Croat separatist forces committed systemically planned war crimes, this is an undeniable FACT. The Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina committed war crimes at times but did not commit any systemically planned crimes. For decades now, there has been a trend and tendancy to lump everything together, which is exactly what war criminals and their supporters have been doing for years, even decades, trying to relativize everything until it loses its true context, hence meaning and known butchers suddenly become innocent heroes.

"Croatian army was upgraded with the suport of USA" it was said in this documentary, actualy the truth is Croatia was under UN embargo for buying weapons and didnt had a single piece of military equipment that originated from USA. It's also been said that Franjo Tuđman wanted revenge over the Serbs. Well, he and all of the Croatian people just wanted back one third of their country that has been ocupied by Serbs, by the way, more than 200 000 Croat's have been expeled form this territory's. So, in all, a very bad and false documentary.

This is so difficult to watch even after 30 years. The Balkan region is considered the powder keg... and it has been so since the assasination of heir to the Austrian throne Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 by Serbian nationalists. Milosevich took a Serbian nationalist hardline that caused thousands and thousands of deaths of non-Serbs in ex-Yugoslavia. The region continues to be a mess, with Bosnia partitioned in three parts, and Kosovo recognized as an independent state by the West but not recognized by Serbia and Russia.
