Dam up the bad water area's
Keralis you should keep your 2 high flood gates always closed during wet season to build a reservoir of water to use when the dry season comes, where you slowly lower the 2 tall floodgates and have more water for the dry season. Also to build the reservoir increase the 2 tall flood gates by 0.5 and wait till after water flows over the top to increase the height again. This will allow you to build the reservoir and not run out of water in the wet season.

I was thinking the same thing, he could even build like damns alongside to increase the height of the potential dam
3:13 dams specifically do not make things overflow, they allow it to build up to about 50% water level and then let any excess spill over the top

Dams are actually 0.65, it's not well explained in game, but if you use a water gauge you can check for yourself. If you have a floodgate at 0.5 and a dam the floodgate will overtop first.
With the bad water coming in from upstream it would be wise to build deviation canals or Barrages to divert the bad water to another river before it reaches Keralocity. Love you papa K
The stress 😅 love it 👍😁

I have had my quick sip of tea today!
Because of the badtide, relying on the river for crops is now a liability since the badwater kills the crops. A solution could be to make small ponds of water using explosives (to carve out land) and water dumps (opposite of water pump). In update 5, the bigger the pond, the larger the green area becomes, meaning more area to farm. This means that the farther this pond/farm is from the river, the larger the land you can plant crops in can be. The water dumps take 15 water from your storage. Small barrels can store 30 water, so technically you can survive with that. However making the biggest barrels will be so much better in terms of space and storage. If and when you reach the robot beavers, note that while they dont require food, you do need to spend science to make buildings to accept robot as workers. Have fun keralis! Bridges arent that good on this map, but on maps with a lot of valleys, they're the cheapest option lmao, so you probably wont need to build them very much, but you still can and they look great! lmao
Hey Keralis, a couple of tips: The Folktails don't actually need berries once you have a steady supply of other foods. They're emergency rations at best, and beavers will ignore them if there's any other kind of food they can eat. The other faction, the Iron Teeth, do have a use for berries, but for this playthrough at least, you should basically be done with them. You can probably replace those berry bushes with more trees, and maybe a small patch of dandelions for medicine. Because districts currently have no limit on how far they can reach (there used to be a hard cap), you can theoretically build anywhere you can put a path, it'll just take a while. You can take advantage of this to put in some floodgates and levees to create a sort of 'backflow' around the water sources, diverting the badwater up and around the sides of the source blocks and off the map. That way, when Badtides happen, you can just pop up the floodgates and feed the badwater back where it came from. Inventor Huts! You want multiple of them, to increase your science production! One micro-managey thing you can do is have a bunch of spare Inventor Huts that are turned off during the wet season, but which you turn on when droughts/ badtides come, and you pause your water pumps to free up the beavers. That way you can keep them working on stuff and get a big boost in science points for the duration of the drought/ badtide events.

Two things... 1) especially with update 5, berries are still a very important resource, simply because of the first few badtides and/or future emergency situations. A large stock of berries has actually saved me a few times already, so I wouldn't totally ignore them even on Folktails. 2) on the subject of Inventors Huts. So long as you have a handle on your population and with strategic use of the jobs priority options, you actually don't ever need to pause your extra inventors huts. Simply make 2 the highest priority so you always have some science income and set the rest to the lowest priority. Now during a drought or badtide, when waterwheel based power systems aren't working, you can just pause the production buildings and the beavers will automatically fill open unpaused jobs. Which means those lowest priority inventor huts will fill up and start working all on their own. No real micromanagement on the huts but rather just the production buildings, which I'm sure by now is second nature and just part of the natural flow of the game... at least until power batteries are utilized.

Berries are actually important for creating antidote if your Beavers are contaminated, so its always great to have 6-8 berry bushes, thats just important later tho.

Dandelions and medicine aren't a thing in update 5 as an fyi. But yeah the berry bushes can mostly all go at this point.
@Grato537

Also if berries are "saving you" something else has already gone wrong. They grow dramatically slower than carrots so from a pure food production standpoint carrots are always better.

As long as I have been watching, Keralis has been playing these games on hopes and dreams😭💜
I love the way how you build your city. The possibility of building vertically is something that is normally ignored by others.
Keralis for badwater tides you can build flood gates near the good water sources (towards your town) and close them when you see bad tide coming, so you can direct it to the other side and let it flow out of the map without reaching your town.
@Amokra
4 ай бұрын
just coming here to say that :)
Note on builders and haulers: "hauler" beavers transport resources around your town, both moving things from production buildings (farms, lumberjack flags, etc) to storage/processing buildings, and transport resources for construction to construction sites. "Builder" beavers go to those construction sites and actually make progress on the "construction" progress bar, and also do demolition tasks around your base. Your district center employs a certain number of beavers that do both, but the beavers employed to only do one of these by hauling posts/builder huts are more efficient at it (hauling post beavers have double carrying capacity, and I think builder hut beavers might work faster? or maybe they just don't get distracted by also having to haul resources.) With your town as big as it is now, you probably want at least 4ish beavers dedicated to building, and probably more like 6 dedicated to hauling (with hauling posts/builder huts), and then maybe just 2/3 working at the district center
Careful on how many gear/plank makers you have, you need to balance them or you'll run out of one when youll always need both for late game. I generally do 2 planks for 1 gear
Spiral Staircases really help in this game, Use the 2 tall platforms, put it on top of stairs. Usually dedicate a 3x3 space for the stairs, to have exits for stacked buildings on all sides. Also, need more lumbermills for planks. Lots of Plank usage in the game.
You don't need power shafts between buildings and structures to transfer power. You can also fit a third water wheel side by side with the two you have existing in your river. Water wheels are also more effective with a better current. So you can utilize levies and dams to narrow waterways and cause them to spin faster. You should also prioritize any Greenland as growable land and brown land as structure land
The dam block won't flood your field. They fill the water up to 0.66 of a block high
For a first-time playing, you're doing really well! Having the trees up where the badwater diverts is actually smart, because they take longer to die than food crops. A diversion higher up-stream would be better, but for an early town, what you have is very good.
"Is there anything we can do to prevent this" Yes yes there is Papa K, by exploring very far from the district center and building Flood Gates in strategic locations. So when a Bad Tide starts you can close off the water flow towards your "reservoir" lake that feeds the river that waters your farms. You can then raise the set of Floodgates at the mouth of the river near home to build up even more water in the reservoir lake just before a Bad Tide or Drought starts. Im actually playing my first update 5 playthough on the same map and can say there is a way to divert the 2 main nearby water sources during a bad tide thus avoiding contaminating the large lake and the main river it feeds with pollution. But it does require some dynamite to widen a nearby thin river or build levee walls to contain, either way takes a lot of time and is hard to achieve early on before the first badtides. Its hard but possible and totally worth doing so you can keep your portion of the map nice and clean and very very green. I hope you see this Papa K and i hope this in someway helps you with your playthrough. There are some things i have learned from others via videos or reddit, that i would have never thought of nor figured out on my own. So i too like to share helpful info when possible, especially about an awesome game with one hell of a funny premise... Beaver based City builder, lol its just silly but oh so great!
Just a small tip, if you leave build mode by just clicking empty space a few times the water and badwater is so much easier to see! :)

As someone who has never played this game, and has no idea what's going on ... I already love this little mini series! Can't wait for the next episode! Great game pick! I wanna play c:
I am loving this playthrough. I love watching your journey of learning and your focus on keeping thing looking nice is inspiring.
Ah. Episode 2. Neat. I may be a bit late, but I'll do as I did last episode, and leave running commentary with timestamps. Again, noted as I watch it. 01:00 Yeah, you still got a population problem. Looking forward to see how you fix that. I play the other faction, where it's easier to control the population growth. In early game, 2 concurrent kits is good, maybe 3. During the midgame you may want to keep 4 or 5, depending on how well your colony is doing. Right now, you got 17. That's a baby.. err kit-boom. To regulate population with folktails, you want to turn off houseing. 02:00 You already have enough water pumps. What you need at this point, is storage, and good hauling setup. You already have set up a hulerpost, I dont recall if you finished it. But at this point, you should consider the water distribution. Place watertanks within just a few blocks of each pump. If need be, rows of pumps can share watertanks. Set those tanks to supplymode. This tells the hauler-crew to take water from those, and move them to tanks marked as recive or normal operation. Next you want water tanks near your housing and workplace areas, those set to recive. You want to do this for other resorces too, but this is critical for water management. 03:28 Yes, on this map, you should block it off with a regular dam right there. Any further downstream, and you might get a problem with the badwater-river. 04:20 Yup. That's a classic beginner move. I did that many games in untill I learned. You can do with just one floodgate for your resorvoir. Just match the heigh with levees and dams on top for the regular flow. Why? Two reasons. 1: you save on resources. Logs are cheap, planks less so. 2: flowrate. When refilling your farmland, you don't want a flood, you just need the water. And if you let the water though for short waterwheel-time, you want less power over long time, rather than a lot of power over just a minute or so. 05:30 Acually, this is a good example of the resource management thing. In a setup like right here you want an in-pile with logs, and an out-pile with planks. Imagine if you did not have your main pile for planks there, and that it instead were somewhere else. Then your cargo hulers would move those recources, and the sawmill worker would not need to travel far for neither getting logs, nor storing planks. 06:00 "some" is everything above half a block. That is difficult to see, but the current flow is much lower than half a block. You will learn safe levels for the waterflow by trial and error. But it is guarenteed safe to place a full row of dams over that river. The question is how many of those could be replaced by levees, to save on wood. 07:30 Now you are getting it. Keep in mind that the maximum floodgate (without using mods) is a level 3. Make sure to close off everywhere else the water might flow. 08:30 The builders hut is more of a mid-to-late luxary. It does not hurt to have it. And your biggest problem right now is overpopulation, so you don't lose anything from haveing it. You should set the builders hut on low priority right away. Your biggest construction bottleneck right now, is resource production. You should focus on that. AFTER you build your downstream dam, that is. 09:25 Uh I remeber when those medium tanks were L-shaped, and could only hold water. Those were painful times. Be glad you play this more recent version. 09:50 I know, I know. But right now, you are going to need a dieoff. You need to either fix your supply and storage issue, or half your population. If you don't you risk losing the entire colony. If you played on hard, you be dead by now. The cruelest, yet most effective, way to solve this problem quickly, is to set up a new city district, and manually transfer some beavers to die. It hurts every time I have to do it. Your long term fix, is to turn off some houses. 10:40 When setting up a floodgate contruction "for the future" without pausing the build, set it to lowest water level. That way, it won't suprise you if it's suddenly built before you needed it. 11:09 You can build paths in the river. No problem. Do it. 13:50 0.5, what you have there, is the equilant of regular dams. You wasted some recources. But this is fine. On your first few badtides, you want to be able to open up your downstream. Though later, you want to find ways to redirect the badtide flows away from your colony and reservoirs. Letting a badtide flow though your farmland is very bad. Nearly unavoidable to fix that for your first one. 14:10 Good idea: As in this will help you learn the waterflow mechanics. Bad idea: as in, this won't improve anything for your colony. 15:45 Again, right there, a perfect spot for a small output warehouse of gears. 16:30 You are starting to understand. Good. You should keep your downstream floodgates at 0.5, all of them. Your upstream resorvoir is not complete yet, the river stil have competing outlets you need to block off. I would have sat those floodgates to 1.0 21:00 Keep in mind that the gear makers consume planks. Do you also want more sawmills. 22:30 You should learn to turn off transparent water. It's always active when a build manu is open. It makes it easier to jugde the waterlevel, and is just more pleasant to look at. 23:30 Planted berries yield the same as natural berries. 27:00 And this is the moment where you should learn some desperation tecniques. The water/fluid dump. It's expensive to keep running, but you can return your stored water to the river if you need to. That will help keep your crops alive during a drought. 28:15 No worries. The showers don't do anything to the waterflow. Realistically, they should, but I don't think that level of realism will be implemented. In fact, the showers don't even consume water, they just need water to function. 32:39 You are getting a bit far from your district center. Be careful here. You need to set up a resorce outpost here, or a whole new district. The former is easier and faster to manage. Set up a watertank, a warehouse of food, and a scrap metal pile. Make sure to set the watertank and warehouse to recive, and the pile to supply. And make sure your hauler building is ready and staffed. You also want a scrap metal pile in your colony, for the haulers to dump the stuff in. 32:48 Uh-ho-ho. Time to grab some popcorn, and watch your colony die. Ok, not really. I'm sure you'll survive, but you are NOT gonna like this. This is your very first badtide. 34:07 Moahahahahaaaa. Time to watch Keralis squirm and panic! uh.. sorry. Anyway, got my snacks ready. In the early builds of this update, on the experimental branch, badtides lasted as long as the droughts. Be glad the devs did not keep that. 40:00 Crisis-management: 6/10. You got lucky with that waterflow. And you learned the need to flush. Unfortunately you had not learned how to flush correctly, and got flooded. If you open your in-flow at full like so, you need your outflow likewise open. 41:40 I imagine you will edventually learn berries are a bad foodsource, and really a waste of space. Then you play iron teeth for the first time, with that very mindset, and lose your colony :D. Just a tip. You really want berries as iron teeth. But as folktails, not so much. end: Good episode, Keralis. I love this. Here's your homework, though. Learn how to use your cargo haulers, learn how to use the supply and recive settings.
Beaverton is an actual city here in Oregon (US) and it cracks me up to no end hearing you talk about how you would build it. Great work
I love watching Keralis's journey through Timberborn!
Babe wake up Keralis posted
Work your way to the Dynamite advancement. Leave little puddles along the sides of the river to keep the crops green when the rest of the reservoir runs dry. The hard part will be directing resources to effectively redirect source water to alternative exits during the Bad Tides.
With water wheels, it's more efficient to have them in series than parallel. What you can do is artificially narrow the river so it is only 2 tiles wide at one point and then stick a water wheel on that point. It's cheaper than multiple water wheels as the water will flow much faster. A single water wheel like that will generate as much if not more power than 2 water wheels side by side. You want to always ensure the river is as narrow as possible where you place the wheels. Also there is no point collecting or storing berries once you have any other type of food. Your beavers will never eat them until you run out of every other food type. You'd be better off storing all the carrots.
On your toolbelt there is the priority tool that let you set priority to multiple buildings in a selected zone.

Also it displays building priority with color highlight.
BTW keralis if you turn off the hide water button by right clicking a few times or by using the icon up near the weather hud icon, you can see the concentration of the bad water at different ends of a pool as it will dilute clean water as well as clean water will dilute bad water. Its handy to k ow incase you get any in a reservoir by accident.
I can't wait for Keralis to see the horror of a 30 day drought followed by a 30 day badtide.
Your city planning aesthetics skills are way higher than mine (I usually end up with a chaotic mess). But your resource management could use a bit of practise. Buildings use power and require products for operating. It's not necessary to calculate everything perfectly, but ensurinig there's enough power and no bottlenecks in the production chain will increase your productivity a lot. Of course, it's a new game for you and there's a lot to learn. I never realized you can mirror buildings, that's for sure something I'll be doing in the future.
City skylines
This game is fun to watch and very relaxing (as always) with your soothing voice Keralis. Keep 'em coming!
Berries are not the best food source to stock up on since they don’t give extra well-being (the better the beavers well-being the harder they work and the longer the live for) try increasing another type of food production maybe???
i miss cities 2. glad its coming back
Top tip: only boost things by one level of priority for normal situations. That way, if you have an actual emergency, you can still use top priority to get things done when you need them. Top priority should scare you a little bit - think about it like calling 999 (or 112 in Sweden i think).
“Treated beaver is a good beaver”
Shower: a spot where beavers can get refreshed... 🤣
To me, when the beavers talk....it sounds like the Minions Now thats all I can think about....little yellow Minion Beavers 😅
"Oh Timerborn did update 5 and looks good. Lets watch a video." .... searching ... searching... Keralis!? Perfect fit!
You're doing great and you nicely handle the bad tide ! Now, you should anticipate the next one.I suggest to make scientist to increase science points. Also, you don't really need magical shiny planks right now but you will so it isn't really a waste. Feels like the banised days too, so glad.
You should replace your floodgates downstream with a normal dam. The dams have a gap in them, so your reservoir will fill up, but it won't flood your fields. Then build a flood gate further upstream. When you close the floodgates right before a drought/badtide, you can keep a reserve of water between both floodgates. Then you can use that reserve to refill your reservoir during the drought.
This game is unreasonably adorable. I am loving it! 😊
I know these dont get as many views as your minecraft stuff but i think it's really great you're branching out into other games ^^
Another thing you might want to take a look at soon is the work shift settings: you can fiddle with the beavers' schedules to change when they work, when they relax, and when they sleep. They get unhappy if you make them work more than 12 h a day, but you can also setup multiple shifts so that you have some beavers working the night shift so some amount of work gets done all day, and then those beavers relax and sleep in the daytime
Another day.... another papa k asmr.
Love your series keralis ❤
Can't watch right now but wow great job papa K. Nice series. Doesn't matter what you do it's always a blast!
Love the content! Keep it comin’ ❤
Please Keralis for the love of god build a grill and cook your potatoes lol, loving the series so far!
KERALIS I BEG YOU... CITY SKYLINES PLEASEEEE
You did good with the Badwater tide.
I miss Banished, I played it a couple weeks ago for nostalgia. This game is cool, last KZreadr I saw play this was Slipg8tr and I loved it. I’m glad you’re playing it now
I have Timberborn inspired mugs on my Merch store they come in many flavors & there are more flavors to come.
You should also close all water pumps when it's bad tide incase the water overflows the floodgates. Otherwise the beavers will be sick and look like zombies until they die
When are you gonna continue with cities skylines 2?
Also...you can build measurement-thingies to see the water height
I hope you continue your Cities Skylines 2 build!!
You can platform over the river if you a ton of extra building space
Ireland Ireland Side by side We stand like brothers One for all and all together We will stay united through darker days And we'll be unbeatable forever Ireland, Ireland Together standing tall Shoulder to shoulder We'll answer Ireland's call! Ireland, Ireland Together standing tall Shoulder to shoulder We'll answer Ireland's call! We'll answer Ireland's call!
10:23 if you're trying to permanently block that off you should use a levee, not a floodgate, as levees are a lot cheaper
"But Keralis! The beavers will die!" "They might, but they'll die in style." What more can any of use ask for?
This feels like The Settlers, but with beavers. 🤔
i loled so hard
The "P" key toggles (building) pause, by default.
Adding more storage for berries as you did near the end of the video is a waste. After you get access to any better food source (of which you have carrots and potatoes) the beavers will no longer eat berries. The only time now that they will actually eat them is if you run out of the other foods. So having 1,000 already in storage was plenty.
You could have one floodgate module and the rest dam?
Save the trees
Yessssa papa K!! ❤❤❤
perfect ❤❤❤
The drought is the least of your worries in this game ever since this update released a brand new disaster is implemented called the bad tides which will turn the rivers red with contamination, you should plan ahead to divert it to keep your colony safe and green
spoiler alert: drought gores all the way to 30 days so you need to expand and terraform. Also get more inventors
make a mission settlement styled after the alamo
woooooooooooooooooooooooooo keralis video
The dams let water through over that level so you wouldn't flood your land, if you put one ontop of a levey then it will flood, its best to surround the in flow with leveys and the flood gates to let water in slowly, then have a dam at the out flow to keep water but let some through to prevent flooding
yeahhhh beaver funnn
City Skylines please 😭😭😭
Where is City Skylines!? I miss it. 😢
I was not screaming at my computer, but that is because I am in the library. Please fix the water source!!!! Unblock that spot and close you Dams and put in a Levy!!!! Please!!
Please build the grill to cook your potatoes. They need to be cooked before they can be eaten.
Berries aren't great food source
sad there arent bendy roads for the bendy people :(
Be wary of the beavers getting contaminated by the bad ground and water during the bad tides, the is a solution.😅
Witaj Keralis. Dzieki tobie zostalem fanem Hermitcraft juz dosc dawno temu. Czy wiadomo juz kiedy rusza kolejna sieria HC? Wybacz nie uzywam żadnych social media, więc nie wiem
Something I feel like you need to be keeping an eye on is how many unemployed beavers you have (third line of the beaver count section). If you have a lot of unemployed beavers that's food basically being wasted, so you should try to make more jobs for your beavers
Do you think you would ever play Foundation again?
Hello,papa K.
Hello where is City Skyline 2
Plz continue the City skylines 2 series plz
Give us episode 3
I get the sense he's not really reading the information provided. Like planting berries is definitely not what is needed in cycle 6 ... They grow very slow and do not add to well being. 😅
You should play ylands again. A lot has changed since you played it last!
I tried this game 2 days ago I fucked up my 2 first worlds But my third is going too well I went from a stable 165fps to a unstable 45 fps... It's a little painful but still fun
CS2?
As someone with over 100 hours on this game. build a dam
