The Babylonian Captivity (Vertical Replay)
We're trying something new this week. Let us know if you enjoy the lectures in vertical form and we will make sure we add them to the channel in this format!
The fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of Solomon’s Temple in 587 BCE ended the First Temple Period of ancient Israelite religion. The prophet Jeremiah and remnants of the army fled to Egypt, while the royal family and members of the nobility were taken captive in Babylon. That enforced exile continued until the Persian Empire conquered the Babylonians in 539 BCE and allowed the exiles to return to rebuild Jerusalem (under Persian rule). John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place will explore this period, which saw the beginnings of diaspora Judaism and its many lasting legacies including its impact on the development of the Bible.
Other topics covered in this lecture include:
Second Temple Judaism
Neo-Babylonian Empire
Nebuchadnezzar II
Diaspora Judaism
Elephantine Jewish Community
Babylonian Exile
Deportation in the ancient world
People of the land
Lost Tribes

Wow. These great tutorials, they just open ones' eyes for the their first time... never have I encountered Judaism, Christianity, the Bible, all the surrounding cultures, religions and influences so factually, and yet, so spiritually. Normally the scholar is of one ilk or the other, thank you thank you 🙏🏻❤️🌎 So glad I've you now, together with Tabor, Ehrman, and the many great others- shout out to Derek at Mythvision, great host to great guests! Thanks again for this great understanding 🙏🏻

Thank you, we're glad you're enjoying our content!
I love this! I usually listen to these lectures podcast style, but I like being able to have them full screen on my phone when I'm watching them normally.
I enjoy both format ratios. Fantastic lectures look great whether in portrait or landscape.

Glad you enjoy it!
this is nice format
I much prefer regular landscape mode. If power cord is installed I have to lay phone on its side.
This format doesn't work on a laptop or tv screen. Not everyone watches your lectures on their phone. Please don't do away with the landscape format.
I prefer the original replay. In the vertical replay, transcripts are very short and run quickly. This is tiresome to my eyes. By the way, I am 70 and my English listening is mediocre, so I rely very much on written words and visuals rather than audio. Thank you. Love from Indonesia.

its good for me bc i watxh from phone
Perfect!
the new format has only a third of the impact when watching on my laptop
Awesome, this is a great add for many. Great idea. I still prefer landscape mode for watching on I-pad. I rarely view by phone. Old eyes..

Thanks for sharing!!
Perhaps useful as an additional format for some. I would not use it. The illustrations and charts are far more recognizable and useful in landscape format. The presenter does not necessarily have to take up half the screen.
🕊🙏
Charts of John that is called John the Chart-Maker is a bit small to read. The CC is nice, but my crummy eyes cannot read the charts.
the original format is much better this seems to impersonal and small
Please say it's not so! I guess I can just listen, but that wouldn't be the same. The graphics make it more than just a video of a podcast. I just can't read that for a whole video - maybe for a minute sitting close to my screen but other than that; not going to happen. Might as well ask me to take 30 years off my age and get better vision. :( 😥

Thanks for the feedback! This content is a replay of our regular widescreen lecture format and is only intended to be watched full screen on mobile devices.

@@centre-place lol - I can't believe I didn't realize that - and I watched the one on Tuesday!! I thought there was a new Saturday bonus. Whew! Now I don't have to worry about Beyond the Walls being all vertical-ly tomorrow. (I started watching Centre Place with the lectures, but have become more and more a church attendee ... sporadically, like with traditional church. :) ) I can delete the comment if you like, or leave it to save off any other would-be hasty commenters.

@@JH-pt6ih Don't delete it...I was a would-be hasty commenter, with weeping and gnashing of teeth!
I don't like the vertical format. I'm too old to enjoy watching videos on my phone. I prefer a reasonable sized screen.
I was hoping he would be like an old abusive nun from Catholic school, but, no, that is too much to ask for
🫤 have to agree, new format not the best🫢
