I've watched 10 hours of lectures of John Hamer, and I'd really love a video on his personal beliefs. I find it curious what someone that so thoroughly understands the origin of a religion, can possibly believe about that religion.

Then s thought occurred to me… perhaps this reveals something about my own concerns … what matters is how he acts in the world- his concerns, his way of behaving towards others, his actions on behalf of the poor and oppressed and the voiceless. I always find myself in this tension between belief and praxis… I often wonder what (the historical) Jesus believed about himself and God - and then and then again meditate on the things he is said to have done - his inclusiveness and compassion. From his talks my guess is that this man is a lot like the Christ he proclaims!❤

Here is my thoughts on God, if the only people he talks to is tv evangelists he really isn't worth worshiping

I absolutely am an atheist in the way that you describe. I went to a Church of England school, and at the age of ten I was telling people I did not believe in god. My mum was embarrassed because it was a good school. My atheism was definitely a reaction to the kind of Christianity I was being taught. My mother was agnostic. My father never said much that was personal. My brother found Christ at university. I was an atheist scince the time that word meant anything to me and I have never stopped being an atheist. I don't know what school of thought I might have been following. To me it was just obvious.

Please look for "prayer for logos" on youtube. It's a surprising analysis of the Sigrdrifa prayer. The prayer is a system that predates Christianity, so it doesn't really contradict the notion of Christ as Logos, it's just older and comes from an other tradition. You might find it interesting.

What i found is the iconography relates to importance. In Catholicism alot of emphasis on the image of the suffering Jesus and this connects to an emphasis on suffering making you closer to Christ, the importance of universal mercy, feelings of guilt for committing the sins that in some timeloopy way cause him to have suffered and sacrificed himself to save you, etc. Protestants focus on the empty cross is a focus on the fact of his absence that Christ arose from that suffering and its over. its hard to explain how here, but there are connections to protestant ideas like blood/wine as only symbolic, the concept of the Elect, saved by faith alone, the beginnings of individualism and capitalism vs a collective (catholic means universal ) etc.

90% of Christan theology seems to be based on john. I mean their conversion verse (is) literally John 3:16. A strange verse to have selected, seeing as how that verse gives the idea that if you don't believe; you'll just die, with no mention of Hell

Because that’s what people believed, Christians & Jews, when the Bible was being compiled. In fact, that there is no mention of hell in the Bible at all. Check out Bart Ehrman’s recent talk on St. Barthe’s Channel in it he goes into the history and development of heaven and hell.

What I find creepy about John 3:16 is that in saying that “He gave His only son” as in ‘let him be killed’ to appease himself God essentially killed his own kid. Between God receiving his son in sacrifice and Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac -and these tales being told as good things- as a kid I understood that my dad had the power of life and death over me and, therefore, was not to be trusted. The thing is, when you tell kids these stories you have no idea how they hear them. No, I never told my dad.

@@mzmscoyote yeah that's the other thing too. How can somebody both die and have everlasting life. Theyre extreme contradictions. There is a theme of the first born sons either being killed for iahuah. All the patriarchs are second born. Gives you the idea that God requires the firstborn sacrifice. And of course the idea is that God made a son, and was willing to sacrifice his son, I'll be at the age of 33(major esoteric symbolism in that number) So when Rabbi tovia singer talks about human sacrifice being the mother of all bad ideas and judaism, this is majorly anachronistic. Because if human sacrifice were viewed as the biggest no no for yahweh, why is it that they were always resorting to infant sacrifice when the city was under siege. Now, while you could say that it's unfair because they were in such a state of desperation, the text unfortunately makes it very clear that most Israelites were sacrificing their children, and this is the explanation that was given after the exile for why God destroyed the temple to begin with. Ezekiel makes the biggest mockery of this though where he actually puts into the mouth of God, Yahweh referencing the verse from Exodus 13 as deliberately bad laws that God gave them that told them to sacrifice their firstborns The thing is is this is something that is so universally frowned upon now that basically no culture claims it for themselves, but the reality is is if more people kind of recognize the fact that this sacrifice thing is a part of Judaism Christianity and by extension Islam and Mormonism, then I think that would have a big impact on the world. Cuz the fact of the matter is, the whole idea of the substitution sacrifice of a lamb or ram was because God required the sacrifice of the firstborn son. But basically he would settle for an alternate. The reality is that the substitutionary sacrifice would have been irrelevant if the idea was that God didn't require the sacrifice at all. And like I said this was in the minds of the people, which is why when they felt like that God was turning his back on them, they resorted to sacrificing their firstborns ⳩𓁥𓁖𓁛 🌠☆⚝✵✫✶✬✸✸✬✮✷✭🂣🂳🃃🂳🃓🃁🂬🂸🂦🃈🃘🃞🂷𒁙𒁃𒀾𒀾𒀽𒀹𒀻𒀯𒀩𒀽

He argues that one cannot say what GOD is if no person has seen him. Therefore, one may change their view of GOD because GOD has not appeared to refute their ideology. The lecture is flawed in that it does not consider the Bible to be based on historical events in many instances. Always regard lecturers with caution who prefer to focus on the evil one, call the Bible untrue, and insist GOD did not appear to Adam, Eve, Job, Moses, and others. I am reminded of a book called the Microbe Hunters. A group of scientists had gathered in a cabin to discuss how ludicrous it was to believe mosquitos transmitted malaria. The lecturer reminds me of a person who has heard love described but has never experienced it. Just because he believes the Bible is not based on fact, in many instances, does not mean that GOD did not literally breathe the breath of life into Adam or cast the serpent out of the literal garden.

Really appreciate the lectures but you can't say that people have a false conception of what the word "God" means. The meaning of any word is whatever the majority of speakers intend it to mean. That meaning may be incoherent but cannot be false (unless you come across a dictionary written by God :-) )

Science does not provide TRUTH, or at least not the kind that people can have FAITH in. So, from a scientific point of view, there are things that we can predict with theories and there are things that we cannot, yet, predict. There are also some things that we can predict inefficiently or partially. I would put a lot of "wisdom" AND intuition into that last category.

You don’t need to have faith when you’ve got a demonstrable theory that’s peer reviewed. The definition of faith is to believe in something without proof or evidence. Believing things based on faith is not a good way of determining the ‘truth’, but then the religious definition of ‘truth’ is not correct. When the religious talk of ‘truth’ they really mean their own perception of the ‘truth’.

The devil is a compelling literary character because he is conflict. Conflict is inherently compelling. God, on the other hand, is the solution to conflict.

I think you have a point insofar as religion - like political ideology - can be a method which is used to control societies - but the concept of “God” may derive from many different imperatives. If we get beyond what Peter Rollins called “the idolatry of God” - where “God” is a “thing” among other things - like an old man with a beard!) - if we widen the understanding of “the divine” - it may provide a framework to articulate our deepest experiences of meaning, love, life and death. We can approach the word as “ground of being”, or beauty and design in reality and mathematics. Or hope. It may even be as in the thinking of J Caputo simply a tentative openness, or the I-Thou we fing in Martin Buber, or merely the capacity in us to challenge oppressive states or violent ideologies. I think the word “God” is multivalent and we need to define what we mean by it.

We call ourselves atheists only because there is such an enormous pushback for having the audacity to be unconvinced. It's not normally a position of rebellion unless we reside in areas where being religious is considered required. In other news, as an atheist, I love these videos. God separating Light and Darkness, say's it all. All light, the spirit, energy, goodness is definition of God. Darkness is the opposite of God, energy, spirit and goodness, should be enough for humans to benefit from religion. The opposite depicted by the Devil represents all that is bad and not good. Humans need God to stay good and not kill their fellow humans or harm people or be greedy, a liar, thief,etc, live by humanitarian principles and values. Humans benefit from believing in these principles, so human beings need God, God doesn't need humans. Then when we are quite helpless and have no one to help us, God serve's the purpose. If the corrupt hadn't gotten control of the world and humans had stayed with the basic goodness of God, what would our world be now?

Have you ever lied, lusted, disrespected parents, stolen, thought bad thoughts, hated someone, sinned sexually etc All humans have sinned in thought, word or deed. Therefore, none of us are good and able to get into Heaven and will be justly judged and sent to eternity in Hell! But God out of His love sent his son Jesus (also God in Human flesh) to die on the cross for our sins and rise again from the dead (nobody can do that only God). Jesus said if you Repent of your sins and put your complete trust in Him for your salvation, you’ll have eternal life, given to you as a gift (this message is not to be ignored; seek God today). If I was caught speeding getting a fine would be Just, being let off on a warning would be Mercy and Grace is the police officer letting me off and giving me a $100 gift to enjoy. We have all sinned against an eternal God so the Just thing would be to send us to Hell but Jesus died in place of you on the cross so God can extend mercy towards you whilst also being just. And now you can also get into heaven as a gift and that is grace. God is good, God is love
