Thank You so much for uploading this video. It is remarkable how different the characters, mood and direction these "Classic TV" show detoured from the Pilot Episode. This version is Dark and Serious as opposed to Light and Witty in coming episodes. The same was true of "Lost In Space"--Smith's character was a icy assassin and a bumbling coward. "Gilligan's Island", also had different actors playing the parts as well as a subtly differently comedy. I really looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.

From such humble beginnings emerged a television series that is now considered a classic, and rightly so..... No one would have guessed that this straight forward little crime drama would end up becoming such a blockbuster hit (as well as undergoing a major change in style and tone)...... "The Avengers", much like the era it was made in changed with the times. From it's conversative start in the early 60's to a surreal spy series at the close of the decade, it had a remarkable life.....

The shows with Honor Blackman didn't air in the U.S. until the 1990's. I was shocked to see how visually, they looked like the daytime soap operas of the early 1960's.

Peggy was the stunning Kate Woodville, for a time Mrs. Patrick Macnee. In the USA, in addition to a hitch on "Days of Our Lives" in the 70's, she's probably best known to "Star Trek" fans as the high priestess and Dr. McCoy's wife in the 3rd season episode, "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky." I had such a crush on her growing up!

If you buy The Avengers box sets the remaining available episodes are on there. I have had many "discussions" on social media over whether this was or was not the first series. Further some people get confused with Ian Hendrys role in Police surgeon and the avengers. He played a completely different character, Dr Brent.

The music was just outstanding. The other day I was playing some old TV show-Gathering Storm, 1990s-and my wife from the next room said "What are you watching?" because she heard the *quality* music from the soundtrack. Just from the 90s! It just goes to underline how mediocre *everything* about our culture has become: music, movies, TV, entertainment in general-since the advent of the Internet. I'm no social scientist and I'm certainly not one of those old codgers who pines for "the old days" but it's just an overarching truth: the future ain't what it used to be.

Poor Peggy... She's the First person killed on The Avenger's First episode. She did, however, continue on to marry The Avenger's Star - Patrick MacNee in 1965. She quit acting in the early 70s and created a business breeding, training, and general care for other's horses. She died just last year (5 June 2013) in Portland, Oregon >> a long way from her home of birth in London on 12 March 1938. Quite a pretty girl.

Very serious and noire when the follow on episodes corrected that, maybe they thought the dark look wouldn't be popular. I do prefer the witty and off the wall humour of the later episodes. I'm with most people Diana Rigg was the most alluring and nice to watch. Blackman with her husky voice didn't do it for me, even if she did like to wear a catsuit most of the time. Emma Peel had that natural rapport with Steed where characters like Tara King didn't quite replicate it. I'm in my early 40s but I do miss this type of look and feel, I need a time machine lol.

I'm still wondering where the lost three hours or so from the 1963 movie of Cleopatra went off to. Premiere was cut down to some 248 minutes from about six hours? Have to wonder what Joseph L. Mankiewicz did with all that. Imagine finding that somewhere stuck in some vault.

That's a silly criticism. No one even imagined video recording would even be possible outside big professional studios costing big money and it never occurred to folk that there would really be such interest in old episodes, just like no one ever imagined the phenomenal technological development that would make the Star Trek communicator, computer, etc. totally obsolete long before their time.

Peter Cushing played a doctor. His last name was Who. He wasn't The Doctor. He wasn't a Time Lord or from Gallifrey. I suppose the BBC could bring him into continuity by saying The Doctor was living as a human like he did in Human Nature, but they haven't done that yet.

Peel didn't join the series until Season Four. Season One had Ian Hendry as the series lead playing Dr. David Keel. Patrick MacNee didn't become the lead until Season Two when Honor Blackman joined the series as Steed's partner Cathy Gale. Only three complete episodes exist from Season One "The Frighteners", "Girl on the Trapeze", and "Tunnel of Fear". Big Finish has recreated the entire first season on audio with Julian Wadham as Steed and Anthony Howell as Dr. Keel.

Actually, you're wrong. There's plenty of missing stuff from US TV from the 60s and even the 70s. For example, many Tonight Shows with Johnny Carson are gone as are many from game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Some of the early Siskel and Ebert are missing. Also, many soap opera episodes are gone. In fact, a 1983 episode of Search for Tomorrow got lost so so much for your supposed superior American television archiving skills.
