The Audacity of The Elbow King! Haggerty’s BRAZEN Style Explained

Спорт

Johnathon Haggerty is my favorite kind of fighter. One who throws ludicrous strikes bordering on insulting but who sets them up with ingenious tactics. Haggerty created a bunch of highly technical and elaborate setups just so he could smash hammer elbow into competitors faces. And not just any competitors, he’s taken out some of the highest level Muay Thai fighters on the planet. These include Nong O and Rodtang!

It was a different style of Muay Thai than what I usually saw but also what I imagined Muay Thai would/should look like. Not that my novice opinion on what the style should look like matters, but he embodies what I imagined. Love his style, how he trains, and his attitude.

I don't think he's either of those lol He's talking about Muay Thai guys not being able to use a tight guard as well in general. I think that ONE's rules make this way more necessary than it would be with the more traditional Muay Thai rules, so it's more a case of adapting to ONE maybe. But at the same time westerners have been making elite Thai's pay for their lead long block since Dekker. So I would personally think it's a combination of both. The new ruleset/gloves and the unfamiliarity in general. This isn't the case for everyone of course, Muay Thai and western boxing has a lot more history than people think. Many of them have known how to box very well for decades and decades. Sylvie has a video on that on her channel I think!

When you spoke of Haggerty turning with the blows and using that as an opportunity of a spinning elbow strike, it is also the opportune time to use a spinning heel kick either to the head, which is left unprotected by the opponent's punch, or to the body and the liver. I haven't seen Haggerty use that kick to date.
