don't be so naiive - watch the documentary in full. he was on a sweet deal & got greedy. making albums isn't 9to5 take 2 weeks off & make more music - you write when its flowing & continue to go with the flow. the pressure of touring takes its toll on all bands - beatles, stones, oasis...

JX1900XJ Read his book. You gotta remember Frey and Henley had control of that documentary, and they still came off looking like an ass. He didn't get greedy, he owned 1/3 of the band by contract and Frey didn't want to abide by that contract. That's why Felder got millions and millions out of the law suit, because they were out of line. Do you think Frey would settle out of court if he a chance in hell of winning against Felder, regardless of the cost. The estimates of what Felder got are all over the place but he got a ton. Frey simple thought he would do as he did with Bernie and Meisner who also had full shares in the band, by making it so uncomfortable for them that they quit and gave up their band shares. Felder had as much say about everything as anyone else did or should have and Glen Frey was never going to accept that. If they hadn't decided to rewrite history by changing the credits on albums, and tried to negociate it might have ended differently, but Frey is going to cram it down his throat and it didn't work.

It’s funny how what looks like a fun creative great job and lifestyle becomes a pita and something you hate after awhile. Felder seems to have realized he can have fun, be creative do good and enjoy his life now at a pace that doesn’t crush his spirit. We should all be so lucky. Good for him.

Actually he was NOT an idiot! He was a skillful and wise judge of talent which was the reason he HIRED Don Felder in the first place. You have to accept and understand that the reason why can be so humble and forgiving is because of the reasons he stated. They were touring non stop for 18 months and resorted to drugs and alcohol to take the edge off. That is a formula for disaster. They needed to stop one way or the other. Glenn Frey long ago took responsibility for his mistakes and has said publicly that Don Felder is the reason why The Eagles were as successful as they were during the latter years up to 1984.

History has shown that Frey and Henley are/were egomaniacs who have no regard for anyone but themselves. The Eagles were a good band before Don Felder joined. Once he did, they became a great band. Contractually, he was an equal partner to Frey and Henley but those two conspired to screw Felder's eyeballs out . . and they did.

I agree with the sentiment of some of the comments on this thread but, as someone who just turned 70, I can tell you that it takes reaching this point in your life to see things with more wisdom and recognize and even admit, the mistakes made when you were much younger and less wiser. Felder is 72 and is on the downside of life. Like Walsh, Henley, Seger and McCartney, you enter the retrospective stage of life and can see things much more clearly. The one thing that wise people eventually come around to realize is, you have to let go of those bad feelings and anger from the past. We are all human and even the most talented American band to grace a stage has made bad decisions and created conflict that was unnecessary.

I remember an interview from a British invasion band, the Dave Clark Five. With regards to touring Dave said we're gonna do this right. They got holidays off they took the time to enjoy being on the road and still made a ton of appearances. Leadon was right to make that comment, and even Fry in the documentary said of the band now that they don't make important decisions after long tours...too bad it took him 40 years to figure that out.

Before I ever read anything or saw any interviews with Don Felder, I knew Glen Frey was the asshole in the band. Actually I got almost the same vib from Henley. I have know people with Don Henley’s exact personality, right down to his using Mister along with their last name when he doesn’t like someone….the whole “that person is such an asshole but I am trying my hardest to tolerate them” act. There is no way those two, especially Frey, don’t see that they are the problem when everyone that left the band did so because they couldn’t get along with Glen Frey.

The Alan Cranston story is funny. Weird how Henley and Fry were dallying with the Establishment (in this case, the Liberal Establishment), whereas Felder couldn't care less, more in the spirit of the 60s and 70s. So Felder breaks off a funny throwaway line, really no big deal, and Henley and Fry scold him like the uptight fuddy duddys they really are. I GUESS.

It wasn't so much Frey and Henley as it was management. Those logistics and commitments are generally handled by management and publicity staff. The band gets the tour schedule and show up. And, Allan Cranston was a senior senator at that time and had a lot of power. It never hurts to put your best effort forward. But, Henley is from Texas and Frey is from Michigan so I doubt they knew who Cranston was until being introduced.

@@warptek But he didn't insult the politician. He had never heard of him before. Why don't you listen again dumbass. It was not intended as an insult. Felder said he didn't realize at the time that it was the senator's wife thanking him. When you perform for benefits, you rarely know the actual people who organized it. Long Beach isn't exactly the center of the universe. And who is Doc Savage?
