The Art of Pleasure with Janelle Monáe | Baby, This Is Keke Palmer | Podcast

There are so many ways to feel pleasure these days, and this week we are talking to the queen of pleasure herself, Janelle Monáe, all about pleasure, sexuality, and how music ties both those things together. Then we debut a new end segment called “This One Has Some Sweetness To It” where we ask Janelle some spicy questions about pleasure, turn ons, and The Obamas. We hope you’re ready for this one because things are getting hot!

There is so much gorgeous on my screen. Bi Kansas girl here! I love this queer KC person representing black royalty as always. The freedom is what everyone should have as a mindset and stop worrying about others, the shame must be destroyed. Don't assimilate disrupt the colonizers mindset. This conversation goes deep for why black Christians are so shameful, we were brainwashed on a land that wasn't even ours. We are our ancestors wildest dreams and we gotta keep going.

It's a shame that we've been made to feel embarrassed to feed our babies from our bodies. I am a "boob out" type of breastfeeder. My babies don't like their heads being covered to eat in the dark. Who would? LOL. Loved this episode.

One of my fondest memories of breastfeeding in public. My son was about 6 months old and I was in the King of Prussia mall. I was with my girlfriends shopping and I was tired and my son was getting cranky, so I sat at one on the benches and decided to feed him. As I finished feeding him and burping my son, this young man was sitting next to me and looking a little shocked that I was feeding and he didn't even notice. Him and his friend just looked like okay. I loved that they tried to not make it awkward which I know that might be hard as a teenager. I was proud of these young black men, that they just took it in stride.

As a transgender woman seeing real women talk about gender roles always makes me happy. As long as I could remember I was feminine and people used to always tell me to be more masculine. I made me really not like myself because I couldn’t be masculine enough for everyone. But knowing that someone went through the opposite of what I went through and came out on top really makes me want to do everything I can to be the most authentic version of myself. So thank you ❤

The majority of humanity still aren't sane aka atheist/non political, conscious, honest, knowledgeable, inclusive, secure (financially or gender wise), realistic, positive. Our African ancestors had already put so many people, including you, to shame.

I love love love what Sharon, Kekes mom said in the intro about expression and not limiting more negatively perceived emotions like anger. I have not heard a parent encourage or celebrate so to speak their child’s frustration with them directly. Acceptance I’ve heard and I practice it myself but direct encouragement I’ve never seen it. I’m gonna practice that with my child. Her impersonation of her mom was real “I’m glad you sad that…” 😂❤

i got emotional watching this. i resonate so much as a black queer person that grew up in the church. they get mad when we say this, but representation rlly does matter. janelle's self expression matters and makes impact for those that need it. eff anybody that can't or choose not to understand

Janelle Monae has always been the moment! I have been in love with her since I first laid eyes on her at the World Cafe Live in Philly! She was a figure I needed. She made me think and feel seen in so many ways. The Cindy Mayweather alter ego I felt that. Feeling in life, relationships, and to matriarchs I had to be a one way to be seen to be respected to be loved. When I watched lipstick lover I said Janelle is doing it again!!! Always on time, always doing what is true to her!!!
