Is Culture Shock A Bad Thing? with Yvonne Orji | Baby, This Is Keke Palmer | Podcast

Ойын-сауық

Have you ever gone somewhere new and just felt totally out of place? Well, today we’re talking about culture shock with actress and comedian Yvonne Orji. Yvonne shares some of the hilarious moments she experienced when she moved from Nigeria to D.C. at the age of six, the surprising similarities between the two countries, and the ridiculous assumptions we can’t believe people still have about Africa. We also spill what shocked us most after moving from Chicago to California, and Yvonne puts us on to a surprising new soul artist. Plus, we respond to listener voicemails where we give it to you straight about how celebrity PR relationships really go down. Aren’t you curious??

Ladies, if you have a friend that has a toxic relationship and they don’t care to leave, let them be and move on. You will never matter more than whatever man they’re with. She’s not going to leave him bc of your high standards. If you’ve expressed your side, and they don’t value it, the breakup is coming anyway. Don’t be delusional and “keep things positive” bc the situation isn’t positive, and it bothers you for a reason. It’ll also start to affect your life negatively because you are the company you keep. You don’t have to suffer through a friendship because your friend wants to suffer through a relationship.

Umm KeKe let your Mom finish her thought. I think what she said about the friend is true. What’s wrong with saying I love you and whatever else. Some things are deep, the friend is moving to another state. Possibly away from close family and friends. She will be isolated. And that’s still her business but your friend can tell you I think you should wait a while it’s a big decision but I love you and I support you. Just let me know if you ever need something.

I totally agree with her because you can’t expect someone to wanna be around you when you don’t like to be around yourself😂❤🎉. Be busy celebrating yourself take care of yourself and that right person will come along into your life and then you also recognize it. You really recognize him when he arrives

Exactly. I really wished Keke absorbed that because I agree completely. A real friend will embrace the uncomfortable conversations. If we want ease hey let’s talk about that contention to see how to smoothly resolve this situation.

Agreed!! Now I’m not going to hold you down and force you but for my real friends we definitely have to have one “heavy” long drive in the car conversation because I love you and want the best for you. What you do after that is your choice. But r’ships can be life or death so I don’t mind getting serious with my real friends.

I believe what mom was trying to explain at the beginning was: Take care of yourself first so you'll even know what you're looking for. You can be in a relationship and feel very much alone if self is taken care of first. Your vision isn't as obstructed with all the inner issues when you take the time to do the selfcare first, giving you that 20/20 vision advantage during your next outing.

KEKE.. i am Nigerian raised in Enugu ( in an academia community- i think 6 years older than Yvonne. We did not really get any education on black Americans- how they got there etc. My exposure to Black Americans was Sanford and sons, Good times, Cosby show, Different world, fresh prince and watching the Olympics. We had a group of biracial kids ( half Nigerian/ half East European and a few Black American moms ) Thats it!

13:14 it’s more than just “ not showing up for her “ that man is SINGLE, SINGLE. Okay! Let her make mistakes and that’s how she will learn. We all deserve the opportunity to F things up so we can grow from it. Let this man break her heart so she can know real love when she sees it. Just put a boundary up. “ I know you’re in love with him but I don’t think he’s good for you and for that reason I don’t want to talk about Charlie anymore. It stresses me out”

Keke, what I find is those that talk about wanting someone with 6 figures, doesn't make 6 figures. Those that make it, are ALREADY IN A CIRCLE of folks that make it (aka their co-workers/career peers), so finding someone making similar shouldn't be that hard or something to go around talking about. So this is someone who wants to pull themselves up by someone else's wallet/hustle.
