Death is very transformative to Life. Aunjanue is such a sage🍃💜

I'm still crying... Sobbed so much through the movie!!! The grief experience was so personal for me! And the grief I felt for every person who is dehumanized in the ways so powerfully captured in the movie!!!! And the fresh dive into the other layers of what African Americans experience in this country - more than, deeper than, the better context to what we usually define only as racism. Caste is the container for racism, and all the ways humanity seeks to define another as "lesser" ❤❤❤😢❤❤❤

Saw this film today, its a work of art. I was crying on and off through out this film.

Loved this interview! Loved seeing Regina King. She's had the heartache of a child dying. I feel for her. Ava is a special and creative filmmaker. Anjunay is a fantastic actor! I love everything she is in. Can't wait to see the movie!

The most enlightening part of this film was the plight of the Dalits(untouchable) community in India. India is a an extremely complicated place, with centuries old traditions, and multicultural crossroads. In a short period of time, Ms. Wilkerson and Ava shared the struggles of the untouchables in a way in which I had not seen. It was a really powerful depiction. I was squirming in my seat when that guy went to clean the latrine. Sadly, the highly stratified society in India, connects to the right leaning Indians in the West. I see you Vivek Ramaswamy and Rishi Sunak.

@edwardburton6687...why must we as black people take on more plights of other nations and call it ours, and call it the same? Perhaps I don't get it as a women of color in her 72 years! What is it that I have missed, and why should I connect other people fates, who come to this country and never ever come in our community but are benefited with benefits we ourselves do not have! We want to gift to every nation but never to ourselves is why we are still on the bottom while others rise to the top! I love the acting of this actress, but I am missing something and please somebody enlighten me!

I saw this movie today. It was brilliant and mind blowing!!! Aunjanue was outstanding. Ms. Duvernay made a masterwork which put me through all sorts of emotions.

Thank you for this interview. I saw this amazing movie last Friday when it opened in San Francisco. I had read 1/2 of the book which is deep and a book that you can't rush through. Ava is a master of film. You bring it all to life and what a wonderful story and story that needs to be told about Isabel. Wow! I loved every second of the movie. No spoiler so I just need to say that I have to see the movie again and again. It is worthy of being seen many times. Thank you thank you, thank you!!!

Why? How does it help rid us of baby mama culture? Where were the black males? Why were the dinner guests in Germany so SHOCKED that the white woman questioned Wilkerson’s thesis as if it is blasphemy to even hint that a black woman can be wrong in her thinking.

I have the highest regard and love for these three talented, beautiful, and intelligent women. I love their passions, their visions, and their work. God bless them all...

I don't know why I loved seeing the credits scroll over Ms. Ava's face. I think uts because of the idea of completion. These women going through very hard work and complex ideas from Reginas Boondocks Watchmen and Ajanue in King Richard and Remember her portraying a black women finding her own power in Lovecraft County (whole series and specifically Beyond Cest episode) I think seeing the credits reminds me that speaking is important but the discipline and commitment it takes to communicate in various ways is a birthing that requires time discipline corporation to reach completion. The credits scrolling across her face reminds me as great and thankful I am for Ava telling stories that have liberated folks literally (When They See Us) and figuratively (many of us who have viewed) it takes many hands to bring it forth. Thank you all three of you for your years of perseverance dignity power and the pursuit of understanding and well being for us all. Thank you for feeling deeply and following through. #inspired

Did you notice the dismissive way in which working class whites and poor blacks were treated? The family reunion had too many “boxes” and the tradesman really needed to be in that MAGA hat, right? The movie was intellectual candy for people who have many words to say about Trayvon, but are very silent when it comes to Trontavious.

I'm so honored to have this interview available to see. The movie was outstanding. The actors, writers, producers etc were brilliant! I love that Regina said this movie isn't about racism but connectivity; however, I believe that both of those challenges can be present at the same time. This is deep and I have a lot to think about and understand put into prospective. These women have beautiful spirits!

This randomly popped up in my Hulu recommendations and I had never heard of it before. But I like Neicy, and Aunjanue stole the show in the new season of Justified so I sat down and watched it. What a powerful movie. When I put 2 and 2 together and realized I was looking at Trayvon it rocked me! I think someone started cutting onions. Aunjanue is a master at accessing her emotions and making you feel her pain through the screen

Currently reading the book which is amazing and I can’t wait for this film to release.

I was traveling through Southeast Asia on my birthday, one year. I was in 6 countries, 7 if you count Thailand twice. I'm from NYC, living in Bedstuy Brooklyn for most of my adult life, but New Delhi was scary and I am not a fearful person, but I was like, "I'm ready to be back at the hotel, now!!!"

This movie is so profound. Great job. Aujanue bumped her way up to my favorite actor status same with Ava.

What about the scene when the black couple were on the porch speaking about how to structure the book? One minute they’re conversing in the vocabulary of the educated and then as soon as a dark skinned woman shows up they get real ebonical. I saw that as further evidence of the class divide in this movie. She wanted to us to feel the caste pain while at the same time basking in the upper class trappings that separated her from those beneath her station. This movie was trash.

I think that was the point. We’re all apart of a “caste” system, whether we want to believe it or not. We all have biases, buried prejudices lying dormant in us due to personal experiences …the reality is we’re all flawed human beings.
