    When I was a lot younger and I bought my first four wheeler from an older gentleman, he just used two stainless steel hose clamps and a painted steel rod with a centered hook. Clamped it to the back rack or the front rack and it was always there every time I was stuck for an anchor worked great in the ice worked great on crutches of the tree. Never needed a tree saver. And wasn't hard at all to keep on the wheeler at all times

    I’ve been debating on a snowmobile or four wheeler. Four wheeler would be nice for all year round but a snowmobile seems to be the best overall ice fishing vehicle. Any thought?

  • @AlexTimm

    @AlexTimm

    Yes a snowmobile for winter transportation on the ice is going to in most cases be the best option, however if you want to tow a trailer or pavement as well a ATV or 4 wheeler would be ideal - plus you can always put tracks on it and you have a great go anywhere option (this is what I have done now)

    Travis, the ION G2 10" is a great auger! I have a review and stress test video up here on KZread. Maybe you've seen it. I'm very impressed with the auger and would recommend it for sure.

    I also have the G2 10" and its awesome. Huge difference in weight and power over the ion X. I was out late last season and compared it to my Ion X. Although I don't remember the ice thickness the g2 was 17 seconds faster!

    @@travishathaway1135 Mine came with the single 6ah battery, but I rarely use all of it. I would actually prefer 2 4ah batteries so then I know I have a spare ready to go or if one decides to flake out.

    Note to others! Don't winch anything with the engine shut off! It'll drain your battery faster than you think and you wont be able to start the atv leaving you to hoof it for help.

    I just bought a piece of square 2" heavy metal tubing 2' long, drilled a hole in the middle and put a heavy duty solid eye bolt in it. Drilled a whole on one end and tied a 4' piece of rope to it. I haven't had to use it yet but I'm sure it will work just as well and cost a lot less

    Lol agreed. I went a step further years ago and welded a large washer to a steel 1x1 that was 14" long. Works the exact same as this except without the orange strap (we just connect the winch directly to the washer).

    That is how we secure an ice wooden hut from blowing away. Tie a piece of rope to a 2 x 4 and stick it into the hole and secure the rope to your hut.

    Yes this seems to be well designed and built. However, much easier is to use an ice climbing screw anchor. Smaller, lighter to carry and store in your ATV box. Cheaper too and you don't need an auger at all. A must have in my opinion.

    A lot different in terms of breaking strength, durability, and it floats which can be problematic when you get that thicker ice and trying to get it to go under vertically and turn

    Lol, I think you could get a good 30-50 ft depending how much winch line you have, and hopefully you winch to a spot you have better traction or clearance. Otherwise yes, you will be repeating this all the way to shore or a road 🤣

    This is pretty dumb. Use a small snowmobile, maybe a third the cost of that monstrous ATV, and never get stuck, so never buy a motorized auger and a special piece of equipment.
