The Architecture Of Insecurity - Alan Watts (No Music)

Alan Watts - The Architecture of Insecurity (No Music)
"The Architecture of Insecurity" is a lecture given by Alan Watts, a philosopher and writer who was known for his interpretation and popularization of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. The lecture addresses the concept of insecurity and how it arises from a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of existence.
In the lecture, Alan Watts highlights how insecurity stems from a belief in the idea of a permanent self or "ego," which is seen as separate from the rest of the world. This belief leads to a sense of insecurity and a constant need to protect and defend one's self, which in turn leads to a fragmented and unhappy existence.
Watts suggests that this feeling of insecurity can be overcome by embracing a more holistic and interconnected view of the world, where the individual ego is seen as part of a larger and interconnected whole. By letting go of the idea of a separate self and instead recognizing the interdependence of all things, one can live a more harmonious and fulfilling life.
Overall, "The Architecture of Insecurity" is a thought-provoking exploration of the nature of insecurity and a call for a more holistic and interconnected way of being in the world.

About Alan Watts:
Alan Watts was one of the very first philosophers to interpret Eastern ideologies for a Western audience. Alan Watts was born outside of London in 1915. It was in his youth when he first discovered a nearby Buddhist lodge. In 1938 he moved to the United States where he became an Episcopal priest and relocated to Millbrook, New York,. it was here that he wrote his most pivotal book The Wisdom of Insecurity: A Message for an Age of Anxiety.
Alan later moved west to San Francisco in 1951. It was here that he began to teach Buddhist studies, and in 1956 he started his well-known radio show “Way Beyond the West.”
By the sixties, his radio talks were aired nationally and the counterculture movement had truly adopted him as a spiritual genius. Alan continued to write and travel until the end.

AW’s book: ‘Wisdom of Insecurity’ is an exceptional read among all of Watt’s other books, much of which this recording is from. If anyone wants to understand Watt’s perspective, I suggest reading his books first and foremost over listening to KZread audio collections (as many of these audio clips are stripped, cut, and edited to suit the uploaders goal). *NOTE: this video/audio seems authentic and unabridged 😊

Like it or not, starting around 13:30 in this talk, Wattts gives a crude definition of a LLM (i.e. a foundational part ofAI tiday). He would have been fascinated by the advancement of other intelligences, and would have had great fun with its analysis. That said, the audio production had to be painstaking but the output is too sterile. The message, however, is not.

I think he was wrong about the 'mind' connection with the flag. The mind is moving, back and forth between possible things that could be moving the flag. But none of the definitions make sense because in that situation, neither of those things has intent. But the mind does It's very purposefully moving all over the place trying to figure out which rectangular pegs will fit in this round hole it's convinced needs a peg. Well, there isn't a round peg. Zen ... sure this isn't Alan, its a recording of his voice, but ... yeah and that is just vibrations encoded into digital bits somewhere on a server then filtered by some AI cleaning out the interference, but not him, but not something else, its karma i suppose, you set in motion a train of thought onto a piece of paper or recording machine, then more people hear it and say, wow dats cool and then the ball of karma rolls onto our present time with us sitting in front of our computers or smart phones and listening to Alan ... :)

I used to enjoy Alan Watts a lot, and he was quite helpful for a while. However, the more I listen to him now, the more confused he seems. In the beginning, when he speaks about how the view that one is separate from the whole is “schizoid” it is clear that he doesn’t truly understand this concept. Schizophrenic or schizoid people are the opposite - they “get” that there’s more to it and that there’s this interconnectedness, but lack a dictionary or understanding to explain it. Alan Watts drank himself to death. Not sure if he truly had it sorted out.

I have schizoid affective disorder. I take a med that helps tremendously. I remember when I was sick, I remember the hot summer nights with the cicadas and frogs..the woods having an faded eerie green the night charged...I remember laying in the bed of leaves and just morphing into the planet and universe. It is an incredible feeling. Almost supernatural. Never will I forget that and many other instances what "normies" deem spiritual.
