One of the things I like about this adaptation is that they actually make Flash a bit more three-dimensional, having him come over to Peter sympathetically after Uncle Ben's death. Admittedly, it doesn't go great, but it's better than the two-dimensional versions in the Raimi and MCU films. And in the comics, eventually Flash and Peter did become good friends, with Flash even being the best man at Peter's wedding.

Flash is actually one of my favourite characters in Spiderman history as in the comics he genuinely evolves from a cliché bully jock to a three-dimensional person, who looks up to Spiderman and gave up his own legs all in the name of serving his country all because Spiderman inspired him to be a better man and to help just like Spiderman. Not to mention his eventual friendship with Peter is truly heartwarming to see and very satisfying after all the years of them being high-school rivals and becoming best friends. This version of Fllash is by far my favourite in live-action and if you didn't know there is actually a deleted scene of Flash hanging hanging out with Peter and Gwen during the graduation ceremony scene in Amazing Spiderman 2. It is just such a wholesome scene despite how small it is.

Not only that. My favorite part about flash is that he actually looks like the comic book version of flash. I love it when they hire actors that bring the role to life so well. But, I also agree with you.

Agreed, and while it's a small thing, I really like how, at the start, Flash doesn't immediately bully Peter, he tries to get him to join him in bullying someone else. He's not just some mindless thug who picks on everyone around him, he wanted Peter to join him like a buddy, and only hit him when Peter refused. And as said, when Uncle Ben dies, he shows a lot more compassion to Peter. Various comics have shown that Peter and Flash were actually friends before high school, and it's not hard to imagine the same thing being canon with these movies, that they used to be closed and grew apart over the years, hence (as said above) Flash wanting Peter to join him in bullying another kid, only resorting to default 'bully' mode when Peter didn't want to be part of it.

Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spider-Man AND Peter Parker. He brings such a wounded anger to the character that really elevates to the themes in the movie (isolation, abandonment, etc.)… and I’ve never felt more of a grounded and relatable performance from a Spidey than when Andrew played him. Love his work.

The whole abandonment thing feels a little contrived. Like, surely May and Ben would have set the record straight that Peter’s parents didn’t leave because they didn’t want anything to do with him. If they don’t want to tell him how his parents were branded as criminals they can still make up and twist any story they want.

One KZreadr I know pointed out that since Peter’s dad was able to make his dna compatible with the spider venom, then that in theory means he could have done the same for Norman Osborne to cure him of his disease. If he told Norman that then that might of convinced him to stop his dealings with whatever foreign power that was funding the research.

he's the worst Peter...not his fault, it's the writing/direction...he was way too cool to be Peter....He skateboards, was smooth with Gwen in some scenes just to name a few reasons I think that way...His Spidey was awesome though I'll give you that...He had the perfect wise cracking persona......I always laugh at the "CROTCH" scene

I like the fact that the flash wanted to check up on Peter after his uncle was killed

Admittedly Flash is a hard character in the movies to like because they don’t give you all the details. Canonically, Flash has an abusive homelife so the only coping mechanism Flash learns is to pass on the abuse to others. In the current MCU it’s more of abandonment by emotionally unavailable parents because family-friendly Disney. Comics-wise, after high school Flash sees the hurt he does to others and becomes a better person and mends things with Peter. In more recent years writers had Flash join the US military and he served overseas in an active conflict where he lost both his legs. Shortly after recovering in the states the government gave him the venom symbiote which had been confiscated from Eddie Brock and Flash became a government sanctioned hero in his own right with his own monthly book as Agent Venom, my personal favorite host of the venom symbiote. So yeah, a case of a c-list supporting character getting a weirdly intense amount of development over the decades.

@@arabianprinceflyeaglesfly1700 not just that. Flash probably dealt with his one of parents or siblings dying , we don’t know. He probably bullied others to take his stress out on them. Even when he beat up Peter, he looked bored, he didn’t look pumped or excited to beat him up, it was all a front to hide his own pain most likely and he was lost. But we see this changes in amazing Spider-Man 2 when they hug and became friends.

In all the Spider-men movies, this is one of my favorite scenes when the citizens line up those cranes for Spider-man.

And he would have totally honored Capt Stacy's final wish, but Aunt May was like "Oh you're a good boy Peter, you go ahead and get with that girl". Oh you are going to LOVE the next movie

Addie, After you watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2, DO NOT go right to the next Spider-Man movie. It's part of the connected storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You must start with Iron Man (2008), and watch them all in release order. And you must watch the post-credits scenes. Please.

I love the whole arc of this movie. Starting Peter off as just looking for revenge, rationalizing it as trying to protect people. Then Captain Stacy calls it what it is, a personal vendetta, and that flawed as the system is, it's what makes sure a person has to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt before the state can take away their freedom. Peter learns and grows and moves past his motive for revenge and into truly helping people in ways no one else can, from threats no one else can handle. Much as I love the Raimi Spider-Man movie, the emotional and character journey of Peter in this one feels so much more rewarding.

Andrew was always Amazing, even if people weren’t ready to see it.

By far one of the most underrated superhero films ever.

I don’t know about that. TSM is like a low 6/10 and TSM2 a higher 6/10, these movies writing is not that good and the best thing about them is the acting carried they the actors doing their best they can with a bad script, the relationship of Peter and Gwen, the VFX and score, other than that these movies aren’t that good. Underrated superhero movies are Unbreakable, Watchmen, Dredd 2012, Megamind and maybe you can slide Man of Steel in there.

37:14 Connors/Lizard at least when I paid attention to Spider-Man stuff was always a bit of a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde thing, Curt Connors himself is an ally that often helped Spider-Man in whatever way he could but the Lizard was not really good or bad just primal and chaotic. Something would happen to trigger the Lizard transformation(his family, friends or him being in danger or just extreme stress) then Spider-Man would have to battle the Lizard and find a way to revert him back to Curt Connors.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I really wanted a more primal, instinct driven Lizard. And would it have killed them to make him more comic’s accurate? Give me a snout any day! I loved how every character was portrayed in the old 90’s animated series. I grew up with it and catch it up on Disney + all the time :-)

He is my favorite Spiderman (not Peter Parker though) because he is like from comic books and the animated series. He is the only Spiderman with the jokes and quips. [SPOILERS FOR NO WAY HOME] And it was even shown in No Way Home, he was the jokester and first time he sees his villains he is like "Hey what's up Connors" with jokey tone.

I'm so glad you checked out Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man! I remember when this movie came out! It felt weird seeing him as Spider-Man the first time I saw this movie because I was use to Tobey's Spider-Man, but at the end of the day I thought this movie was good. The second one, in my opinion, was even better than the first! I personally enjoyed the second Amazing Spider-Man movie and it was unfortunate that it'll be the last Spidey movie for this series. Once again, I'm glad you enjoyed this movie and I look forward seeing the next one! :-D

I dont care what anyone says... The shot in the leg scene on that rooftop just feeling hope losing (music playing) them dudes lining up the construction things, in my opinion the greatest spider man scene ever. Just a hair even better than Tobey train scene.

I love that no matter who plays spiderman, batman or superman no matter how many different versions of the character we get there all good in their own ways. I love how funny andrew's spiderman is and they gave us a mystery of sorts with his parents cause its never really brought up in other stuff he jsut starts as an orphan

The writers of Spider Man saw the growing popularity of Mary Jane Watson, they changed the storyline of Gwen Stacy being the central love interest. So they decided to kill her off, and made Mary Jane Watson the main love interest. Later they killed her off, but public was angrier by this. They brought her back by saying Spider Man thought she was killed by a super villain. Mean while Peter Park relationship with Mary Jane Cousin Jill Watson , didn't last because Mary Jane Watson returned. Peter grieved over Mary Jane Watson death, during his grief he found comfort with Jill, and it grow to love relationship. Jill disappeared after Mary Jane return.

I haven't seen a cinemasins reference in, gosh, probably over 7 years. I didn't think anyone still watched that channel.

I was skeptical when they rebooted but Garfield was pretty good. Tobey is Spider-man to me, but these movies were good too. I just love the character of Spider-man and will pretty much watch any version. Loved the 80 Spidey too.

I always liked how after Uncle Ben dies Pete totally misunderstands when Flash approaches him at school and assumes he's trying to pick a fight when he's just trying to tell him he's sorry for his loss and by the time the movie ends they're on good terms. It was a cool little callback to the comics, where Flash was originally Pete's bully but they eventually became good friends after they grew up and Flash matured a bit. I remember all that from the Spider-Man comics I used to read as a kid back in the day and how it stuck with me that even as adults they'd sometimes talk about their teens and laugh about how Flash was a jerk.

The label on the camera had to be one of the dumbest choices for the story. I would have had Peter take some photos earlier in the film while he was with Conners, and later when Lizard finds the camera he goes through the cameras files and when he finds the photos Peter took earlier, he realizes who Spider-Man is.

Personally, I think the villain finding out Spider-Man’s secret identity is just tired. It’s done in every iteration (save for Into the Spider-verse), even the MCU films. What’s the point of a secret identity when everybody knows ;-)

despite some of the problems I have with this movie I do remember really enjoying it when I first saw it, I tend to enjoy movies for what they are rather then what they aren't.

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise Spiderman was nothing without her

This movie was in my top 3 favorite spiderman.

So love this film. Much prefer the two leads to Raimi's. I also thought the whole film was more grounded & what I expected of a Spider-Man origins film. I enjoyed Maguire's second one though. Holland's two solo efforts were completely forgettable. No Way Home was a bloody masterpiece! LOVED all three Peter Parkers/Spider-Men too!

As far as Pete's girlfriends go, these movies are more accurate to the comics ; Gwen came first (met the same fate) and then later MJ came along. Black Cat (Felicia something) has the hots for the Spider-Man but I dunno if there was ever any romance between them before MJ came along... the Cat does still lust for the Spider, though.

If you’re gonna criticize the MCU Spider-Man at least do it with a good argument, I hate how people criticize the MCU Spider-Man with shitty arguments. “Notice how Spider-Man villains are people that are connected to Peter, not Tony Stark” Why don’t you notice how SM3 had horrible villains, TSM and TSM2 and Homecoming and FFH gave us two of the best Spidey villain in live action what about that? Tom Holland Spider-Man is connected to something bigger, like in the comics while Tobey and Andrew didn’t had anything expect the Spidey characters. MCU Spider-Man also don’t had the characters rights so they couldn’t use Oscorp, Alchemax, etc, to create the villains and be more connected to Spider-Man instead of Tony. Also Tom’s interpretation was the third one and Spider-Man already had five movies before Tom’s first appearance in Civil War. The MCU couldn’t do an origin story and give us the same characters again, they did MCU Spider-Man very unique by being inspired by different versions of the character (616 comics, Ultimate and Miles). You may not like it but the MCU gave us the best Spider-Man character arc and the best portrait of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, he is perfect at both. Tobey and Andrew got bitten and instantly became a hero, that’s not how Spider-Man is, he is a very flawed character and the MCU portrayed that perfectly. It’s sad that so many people are blinded by nostalgia and don’t appreciate how amazing Tom’s Spider-Man is. Y’all love to criticize the MCU Spider-Man but don’t use the same energy with the others. For example, Tobey had the worse acting of the three, it was pretty bad and cringe. He also had the worse relationship out of the three, it was retry toxic and horrible. SM1 and SM2 are carried by the villains mostly, they carry in the acting aspect and JK because without Willem, Alfred and JK the acting in those movies are bad and haven’t age well and let’s not talk about SM3. He got bitten and they made him an adult and we didn’t saw any of his child face, literally when the character is supposed to be bitten at 15. TSM I already told you the best things but other than that the villains are horrible, the plot is trash, the storytelling and the writing. Andrew Garfield is the best actor out of the three and I am glad he got a redemption in NWH but sadly his movies aren’t great. Just like with Tobey he got bitten and they instantly made him a man, we didn’t get any face of a child Spider-Man (Literally when the character is created). And now Tom, he gave us the best acting performances. His movies portrayed the character perfectly and when Peter Parker is a kid in the comics and gets bitten, they did it perfectly. The movies aren’t perfect tho, but they are not horrible, both Homecoming and FFH are a solid 7.5/10 and NWH a 8/10. He had the best character arc and I can’t wait to see how the MCU portrait my favorite face of the character (when he is an adult and starts to struggle with money, time, work, grades, relationship, etc).

No matter who you rank as "best" Spider-Man or "most accurate Peter Parker...A.G. got to kiss Emma Stone. The. End.

They just changed too much about the characters in these sequels. Probably the most anti-comic versions of the story out of all Spider-Man movies. Plus, Garfield looks like he belongs in a Twilight movie more than a Spider-Man movie.
