What is so lovely about this particular clip is that Lucy is so obviously deliriously happy - her absolute joy is marvellous to see.
The fact that she is able to function at all with the blindness and other challenges she deals with makes her a living miracle playing piano like this. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the music!
Is that Lucy's teacher Daniel, playing double bass with her? The most delightful part of watching Lucy play is the joy she gets from playing herself. Yes, this young woman is a remarkable pianist but it is the joy she shares that gives me the most joy.

Stevie wonder moved almost identically. It's amazing how when someone loses one of their senses or is born without.. other senses are amplified. I never thought about Stevie Wonder moving similarly. I wonder what is going on in her mind. I thought once she started playing the movements would slow down or stop. OMG Lucy is having so much fun!!! I don't think there is anything as uplifting and genuine on KZread! .
Woah! There are not many musical savants in the world! Two in the same space is extraordinary in and of itself. Beautifully done to both, and their coach!
I never ceased to be amazed at the way some human brains seamlessly interface with a piano. As though the inner music transfers as instantaneously and freely as singing does for others. It is miraculous to watch and celestial to hear.
She is amazing. I cannot do what she does effortlessly! She is in a zone, that nobody else can comprehend!

Lucy is a truly amazing wee lassie. To be able to play the piano like that given her disabilities, is an absolute joy to listen to.😊
She is precious and really got into this song. She's a jazz artist at heart!
This made me smile so big. Lucy is clearly having the time of her life, and it's infectious! Her enjoyment in the music and in making it just radiates from her.
Every time I hear her play tears well up in my eyes! She is amazing!! ❤
Derek, you used to play the organ behind me at church sometimes when I was quite young. Always enjoyed your talent !
What an amazing young lady. Inspiration for just about anyone who needs it. Bless her and the gentlemen playing with her
Something i find particularly incredible about her performance is her ability to locate the right keys despite thr swaying of her head. If i closed my eyes and swayed my head like that there's no way I'd be able to locate anything correctly. Id have to sit still and have my hands and arms by my side in the exact same position every time. It just simply amazes me how she is able to play so perfectly and so beautifully with that body movement. It brought a tear to my eye, so beautiful. I doubt we will ever understand the brain and all it's capabilities!
This girl needs to ROCK. Go Lucy, you have millions of fans!
Their improvisation is too amazing, mind blowing,....how both of them are so so creative never fails to leave me dazed and speechless ....I feel fortunate to be able to watch their videos....thank you so much .
The sheer joy in playing the piano etched across her face is quite moving. I am so glad that someone given so many disadvantages in life has at least one huge advantage in compensation which is her talent and love of music. Derek is incredible too of course.

More I've learned and practiced, more I've understood that music IS a language, not in some superficial platitude level.. it's IS a language. People who might have harder time to communicate with means we've used to can have other means of communication they're absolutely amazing at and that are suited for them... e.g... music. And Derek and Lucy show us that there are so many more ways to have conversations than we think. Places where they are most adept at and others can just be in awe of their vocabulary, structure and how they express themselves. I can never reach this level, no matter how much I practice.
I absolutely love seeing people like Lucy! She is incredible, inspiring, and truly puts life into perspective. I love this so much!❤❤❤

Thanks for commenting. it's good to know that Lucy's playing is reaching people. It's all about seeing people for what they can do and not what they can't do. Our society unfortunately tends to see people with autism and other cognitive challenges as a set of cants and wonts, to judge them as a set of deficits instead of championing their potential. Music really has a unique power to affect and engage people, and you are absolutely right about the joy it brings Lucy (and Derek).
