Lucy - Live at the Royal Festival Hall on Channel 4's Finale of "The Piano"

Ойын-сауық

Congratulations to Lucy, Sean, Danny and Jay on a spellbinding performance last night on the finale of Channel 4’s The Piano.
We continue to be awestruck by Lucy’s ability, and the best part is that we hear her play every single day, which is an incredible honour. Her music is the soundtrack to everyday life at Ravenscliffe, and our entire community is so lucky to have her with us.
Quite rightfully, her teacher Daniel Bath has been recognised for the patience and devotion he has shown to Lucy and her family for over a decade. Daniel is a hugely talented musician in his own right, and also founded Music for the Many, a charity which provides instrumental tuition and other musical opportunities on an equitable and inclusive basis, free of charge, to children and young people. To learn more about their work, or if you would like to support them, please visit their website (www.music4themany.com).
We would like to also thank The Amber Trust, who have supported Lucy for many years. They are an incredible charity who give partially sighted and blind children the best possible chance to meet their musical needs and aspirations. If you would like to learn more about what they do, or feel able to make a donation to support them in their incredible work, please visit their website (www.theambertrust.org.uk).
If, by any chance, you missed last night’s show (or just want to watch it again, and again, and again!) here is Lucy on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
We are privileged to have played a small part in Lucy’s story so far, and we can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next.
Lucy is playing "Arabesque No. 1" by Claude Debussy.

I know her teacher daniel- he was my first conductor in the first ever orchestra I joined when I was 10. He made me feel welcome even though I was around 4 years younger than anyone else and was funny and lively. He founded a charity in deprived areas of West Yorkshire where I used to live, giving free instruments and tuition to kids who would never have got that opportunity. What a great guy

BRAVO .......BRAVO .........BRAVO!!!!!! Apart from the numerous abilities she has acquired ....just imagine ....for one minute .....to all those who DO play piano .....and play the kind of music that is not only emotional like this .....but also covers the entire piano range ......whatever pieces you now know ..memorized .....NOW PLAY THEM BLINDFOLDED!!! Lucy has calibrated the entire piano range ....to her finger tips! From 0:30 to 0:40, you can see her "re-calibrating" herself to the piano. Once done, she can make a multi-octave jump and hit with both hands. One small example of this is she dropped straight to the Eb at the end to find her final E. She may know the keyboard better than most "professionals" who rely also on their sight. I could listen and watch her ALL DAY LONG! .

As a physically disabled musician myself, it is so encouraging to watch musicians with other disabilities overcome their challenges to be able to play. Lucy is a phenomenal musician and it was so interesting to see how her teacher taught her. When I was 5 I was so pleased that I could press down a key. My fingers are very weak so I can only use a few of my fingers when I play and my teacher really had to adapt the way she taught me but I’m glad she believed it would work. I would really encourage all music teachers if you are ever asked to teach someone with a disability, no matter what it is, don’t walk away but give it a go! You might be surprised! Looking forward to watching more of Lucy’s piano playing on KZread!

Music teachers in my schooldays, many decades ago, were the only ones passionate about their subject. They were just so keen for us to learn something about it! The head of department when appointed flung out the old Dynatron music centre and somehow had ,for then, state of the art hi-fi. Garrard 401, Leak amps, Wharfdale Dovedale waist height speakers. Our Cream albums sounded good but not as great as the Night on the Bare Mountain! Good times.

They became near wet for the duration, thank you dear girl for both your extraordinarily gifted performance and helping my condition for a little while! Just truly beautiful in every sense! Thank you too, to mum and teacher, what a wonderful body of special people! Cheers

I'm 73 and have enjoyed a privileged life free of such obstacles and thought I had done pretty well with my opportunities, but I cried like a child because she has already achieved much more than I ever could ...
