I'm 34, 6ft4", ~100kg and I got my full licence about 6 months ago. I'm still cruising around on my 390 Duke and I love it but I am window shopping for a bigger bike. I don't think I really need a bigger bike when I am commuting but when I am on the open road I feel a little bit like a gorilla on a tricycle. I used to do motorcross when I was in high school but I only have a couple of years of experience with road riding. I'm looking at bikes like the Duke 790/890 and MT09 but I recently stumbled across this bike, the F900R, and it caught my attention. The 890 and MT09 scare me a bit because they really seem like hooligans. The F900R seems a lot more civilised while still being able to have some fun. I think the F900R would be a lot better for longer distances, like if I wanted to go away for the weekend. It has cruise control, attachment points for panniers and I love that massive screen. Do you think this would be a slightly gentler step up from a 390 Duke or should I just get the 890 Duke R and be done with it? Another option would be the 790 Adventure but that is going into a whole new style of bike.

I think you should really test ride this bike as i feel for your height, the footpegs might make your legs feel cramped as i have heard this from only taller riders. Otherwise this is the perfect All round bike i would go for but if not then definitely the ktm 990 duke. Anything else is not as good in technology, fit and finish and design. But the 990 duke is definitely more expensive. I would have also taken the suzuki gsx s1000 but its more expensive despite poor tech and a pretty old dash.
That lean angle gadget will end in tragedy!😂
Great review. One of the best reviewers on here.
I think this and the XR are both really good looking bikes 😍
I think this is the fastest I've ever seen you fly through a little section like that!! And you truly blessed that cyclist with that twin eargasm too!! You know he was impressed. This bike looks addictive.
Other manufacturers: "We need to keep costs down, no cruise control, no heated grips, no TFT!" BMW: "We need to keep costs down, we knows you buggers never adjust the front suspension anyway, we'll lose that and keep all the other goodies" BMW think differently. Wish other manufacturers would take a lesson. Great review, chops! I'd buy one!

No one REALLY understands why they keep demanding TFT screens, other than they are addicted to phones. What about the future of TFT? Are they really that durable? Do they really seal out pouring rain, small hail, baking sun rays, extreme dust and grit, high winds as long as an electro-mechanical needle? Doubt it. Plus how long into the future before bikes become unserviceable by consumers? How long before they become a two wheeled sealed iPhone? I don't like the way things are going. For some dumb reason the riding community and journalism communities keep demanding all the tech. It's about all reviewers talk about. Spend 10 minutes talking about all the tech bikes have, nevermind the riding experience. And don't say it'll never happen. Farmers can't fix their own tractors anymore. Even if they are in perfect mechanical running order, without a million dollar computer to connect to 1's and 0's, the computer won't allow the thing to run. "Contact the dealer/manufacturer". Fork over $$$$$$$$$.

Another great vid 👍👍 Love it
Good review chopsy!!! Do love this - riding this Saturday
Very enjoyable review, thanks!
I like that, thanks Chops. So many good bikes now in that market segment, and if I do chop mine in this years that’s where I’ll be looking.
Another great review chops 👍
Thanks,appreciate your input.
Can give an update in how the quickshifter works with six months worth of running under the belt. It still sucks on the upshift unless you are absolutely hammering it. Downshift is fantastic at any revs. It's the best all round bike I've ever owned. Never fails to put a smile on my face because it just makes me feel like a much better rider than I probably am.
Wow this bike came under the radar. I honestly didn't know that BMW had made this machine, obviously they want a piece of that middleweight naked market. Anyone looking for a bike in that category are now spoilt for choice 🙂. Loving these reviews Chops, great work buddy. 🙂👍
Test ride this and a Street Triple back to back today. Liked the Beemer but didn’t love it. The Striple on the other hand? Oh my word. I LOVED it. Not as practical for what I need but I don’t care. Amazing bike. Need to start saving!
I want one of these too! Nice Job Chop. The XR1000 had bad handlebar vibrations but was FAST. $9k USD is a good deal for the base model.
Wow, she sound nice. Great video again chops.
Excellent 👌 review chops I like the bike a lot for the price .thanks from Danny
An excellent overall package✌️
Nice review and a nice bike! A keyless? The chap from Greece? Sorry, couldn't resist! This is a very good bike, indeed. Need to take it for a spin!
Great job, as ever, Lamb Chop. I’m personally much more interested in the f900XR, and I wonder if you’ll get to do a review of that model as well. I know they share most equipment, but the XR seems like it’s still a fairly different riding experience from the R. I’ve watched many reviews from riders and journalists from around the world, but none of them seem interested (or allowed) to ride the bikes at a spirited pace, so I’m looking to you for that.
Nice ! Still MT09 for me, though that starting price was surprising 👍👍
Pretty great review
Lol „she sounds fruitey“ love ur review and this bike. Greetings from Germany
I like the design of this...never looked twice at a BMW naked before. I'm not in the market for this type of bike, but if I was it'd be a contender.
Another great review Mr Chop's, can you review the F900XR?
Great review. I watched TMF on the basic version. I really like this, would I buy it over the street triple? Dunno.
That is a great looking bike.
Hi chops 🇦🇺👍 good review
I would personally go for the sport touring variation but this one is also great.
First 'journalist' to ride it, and so you should - LCR goes from strength to strength!
Great video nice bike 🇬🇧👍
Looks like a good useable commuter bike you can have a bit of fun on. I prefer this to the XR which looks weird imho. Love the screen.
About time BMW started looking at transforming their moulds. This actually looks quite nice, I do like how they have developed it towards other manufacturers models, like honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki.
I think it looks pretty cool chops and for that price well not bad BMW.
Nice review - no room in my garage for this one as my Thruxton 1200 R ticks most of the boxes this one does and I think the motor has more character. BMW has more tech and probably a better traveler but I have a GS for that.
Just got back from a test ride. I've still got a couple more bikes on the shortlist to test ride over the next week or two, but I think this might be the one. It's so damn good.

just came back from the dealer so see it in the flesh. the looks dont really pump my heart, but a testride should! but its a really nice price !
Enjoyed this review n bike is okay to look at 😃🏍️. Stockport, cheshire
Great review... do u think this is a better bike then the Tracer GT? In your opinion. Thanks Chops
Sweet machine! I think it has a great sporty mean look to it. But will it Wheelie Lamp Chop?
Chops.Quality video once more. Not only do i get all the tech info but also the banter to go with it. How do BMW get all that tech into their bikes for so little cost? The bikes a bargain'
@LambChopRides

haha thanks Robert :-)
Nice video, thanks 🙂 ..... seem like a decent machine ... love that dash, very tasty!! Not keen on the headlight or combined footrest hanger plates. I'll stick with my 790 Duke ... same output as the BMW but considerably lighter and comes with a better set of electronics as standard (BMW requires a £600 optional package to get it to the same level - but then more additional payments for more packages can take it further than the level of the 790).
Good review. Although that socket by the rear shock looks like a DIN socket and not USB I saw TMF's review on the standard one in blue and that looked even better! May have to try one now. It's all your fault!
800-Brutale got huge marks from 44-Teeth !!! This display made me think of MV-Agusta lack of display!!
Great review mate, best one yet !!!
Great review, guess we need to be careful with all this tech that records everything.
Smashie (TMF) then Nicey (LCR) bring out the same review over the weekend, good honest review Chops I like it. Could I get another bike in the garage?? That maybe the bike TMF will get AFTER you??!! NB. Bought a Neo Sport CB1000 single R + on the strength of your review!

Thanks Ian, yes he beat me to it on this one haha
Beautiful bike. The colours highlight the shape. So tempting. PS why is the number plate so big? Trimmer one would fit the new lines
I love this bike, is this too much for a beginner driver? I just want to make this my first bike but I still don't know...trying to decide between this and the G 310 R.
So, I’m in the market for a new motorcycle and I love the fz09 because of torque and how crazy the bike is. Does this bike get away from you like a mt09?
It's a beautiful bike. Just don't know about the parallel twin. Can it be a good lively motor??
It's a good bike but I reckon this is the kinda of bike that everyone will forget about in 2 years time. the most exciting thing about it is the TFT and if someone wants a budget parallel twin they'll just get the mt07
Tail tidy and a aftermarket exhaust and its a beauty

Really do love this bike..... Defo wanna upgrade to a BMW

" upgrade " to a BMW … don't fall for the marketing !! ...Chinese engine and no doubt lots of other bits !
Decent looking in my opinion, I would consider it
Would you buy a new F 900 R with full options or a young used R nine T with the bulletproof boxer engine?
Looks like it has the new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tires. How did you like them?
The handle bars look really narrow compared others in its class, do you find them to be narrow?
Which one do you like better, F900 or the 2020 Kawasaki Z900?
Great Video as usual can you do a comparison with the new Kawasaki Z900 Please !!!!!!
Thank you! Very good review. I disagree with your instagram fans, I think it looks great. Saw one in person at the dealer and it looks even better in the flesh. Short list bike for me. I'm guessing you could put her on a bit of a diet with an exhaust. :-) Keep up the good work!

Great review buddy decent motor but id still take the street triple over this without a thought
Don't understand why people don't like the 800 which came before, if you use the gearbox it can be a very quick and entertaining ride.
@NSBECKETT71

I like my 800R, it’s quick enough for me and as you say using the gearbox properly, it can still entertain. I’ll try either this or the XR version on my next service, but can’t see me changing just yet.
is that a steering damper in front of the radiator?
Kinda looks like a new Katana. Great review as always.

Now there's no need for name calling.
Got one on order SE version. £109/month on pcp with free comfor pack (heated grips and keyless), can't be beaten for that money. Opted for high seat, high bars and mini flyscreen to fill that gap between the headlight and back of the dash.
@chrisw4215
Жыл бұрын
Hey how do you like it? Thinking of buying one as a commuter. Honda is probably more reliable but I like the look of this bike and I think this factor is important
What about the XR version though?
Surprising they included a steering damper, but not adjustable forks. Also, you wondered how they got it down to 8,600 GBP? Non adjustable forks likely saved them a few quid, and using pig iron (I assume, since it weighs so much more than it's competitors) instead of aluminium, etc definitely saves money.
@LambChopRides
4 жыл бұрын
Things like the electronic suspension add weight, also its a bigger bike than the competition which must add more weight.
In my opinion the bike seems like everything youd want out of a FZ07 if your a FZ07/MT07 owner. Like I was! So ill probably be test riding this thing soon
Heated grips, tft, electronic rear suspension and I spotted a front steering damper, by a BMW car and that lot would be on an options spec sheet.something of a bargain at that price, the only time my brow furrowed, was the rear seat cowl segment ,that screams nick me,nick me :-)
Love the extra
One thing for me about this bike, vs some competitors, is the amount of total allowable payload...482lbs/219kg. Thats a lot more than the MT09.
Great review, I think its a little slow for Lamb Chops 👍 it would be spot on for me 😊
What sort of RPM do you need to be at for the quickshifter to work without a jolt?
Fab stuff. Would u call this a potential fun track bike or just a road bike? Looking for something that would do both. What's yr opinion on the Mt 07 as such race road? Tks

Funny! Your comment 3 years ago has come true. They now race these in 2023, at the bsb weekends. Richard Cooper is showing what you can do with this bike. I love that they are racing these, and its relatively cheap to get on the grid, compared to other forms of racing. 😊

An interesting bike, BMW have a very nice "quirkiness " to them I find.👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Nice review & a very appealing bike. Puts me in mind of a more sophisticated bigger better SV650 maybe. Although is the SE version worth the price in your opinion as I believe it's pushing £10k OTR I believe.

Why do you need all those screens? Doesn't the tft display all your phone info via bluetooth?
Hows the vibrations? Being its a twin
interesting bike, Great Video......How do you find the breaks in the weather? Has the Gixer gone now?
@LambChopRides
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, was lucky with the weather that's for sure! No GSXR is still at Wheels Motorcycles, still mine they are selling for me 👍
It does look nice but if I was in the market for a new naked, I think I would rather have a street or speed triple or a Z900 maybe.
A think it looks good man a like the red and white
Prefer the looks of the XR. Good video as usual👍🐑🥩
It somewhat reminds me of the 2019 Aprilia Shiver. A bike that got always bashed for being a tad heavy and where every reviewer was happy to ignore the adjustable suspension front and rear.... The BMW to me wants to be something like a monster or a Shiver, and it being new with more modern tech it might be good at it.... Although it doesn't sound as good compared to the two Italians....🙈 Alsow that app stuff.... Who actually needs that? It's a nice gimmic but I wouldn't be surprised if BMW charges extra for it... As Aprilia does with its Multimedia Integration......
steel braided lines?

Hey LC, what are the chances of you getting your hands on an Indian FTR 1200 S ? It’s a sweet looking bike would love to see you review it!
How did u film 1:24 ?
That's a lot of bike for the price but I doubt it will be possible to order a base model. I would wager none sell for much less than 1000 over. What is the price for the test bike?
Not bike related, well it could be. What were these roads you were riding as some of those places you rode through were very nice and I would like to have a ride down to there in the spring.
Would you take this over the KTM 890 Duke R?
I sat on one at the dealership yesterday and I noticed the pedals are mounted extremely high. It felt weird. MT09 sits better tbh. I would love to see a video comparing those 2.
I realize this is an older review now, but what are your thoughts on how this compares to the Tuono 660?

k678kk LOL! Right!
Gonna just wait till the KTM 890 R comes out and takes this segment over not by a little. I say this as the new Superduke 1290 R rolled out to good reviews yet the engineers at the roll out say the 890R will be something special.
