I'm much more excited for this film than the streaming series. It seems like Alvarez understands the IP and cares very much about it, I'm a fan of his previous films and the production crew is filled with some of the highest caliber creative talent. I'm not expecting anything as iconic as the first two films. While some of the leaks make me raise an eyebrow, I'm expecting the same kind of film he's produced before -- an effective horror with a relatively simple unconvoluted script.

Yes I have a feeling the script will be simplistic enough with maybe a few easter eggs and nods towards some complexities that only Alien fans will understand. How much of a mark it will have on the franchise as a whole? It's anyones guess currently but at least he has a great crew as you say. Concerning the series, we are so far away from that to be honest and all I have are my wishes ;) Seems like with Romulus that is will be possible that we get and good entry point back into the universe at the very least. I'll take that right now...

There are warning signs. Kids being the first. The second being the use of a pulse rifle against an alien in space. The reason the crew in alien didn’t simply blast the alien with conventional weaponry is that in doing so, they kill themselves. The acid would breach the hull in explosive decompression.

Yes. I agree with you about everything. Hopefully they don’t over use the face hugger. But I could also see it as a point in the movie like where in Aliens the xenomorphs flanked and snuck up on the marines in the ceiling. As long as this movie gives you the sense of danger in every corner and let your mind do the rest on some of it, that will be a plus. So I’m really waiting on the trailer to let me know how much more excited I’ll be, but so far I’m really excited actually.

As to the face-huggers getting through the glass: (a) Playing back the original at 25% shows the glass panel in the door is like shattered safety glass (b) There is fire so perhaps rapid heat increase or something prior to this shot can explain the condition of the glass panel? (c) The face-hugger from the original 1979 movie was able to melt its way through Kane's helmet using acid. For me the space station environment of this movie, numerous face-huggers and use of flares seems more ALIEN:ISOLATION themed. Seeing the alien, well - there is not much of the alien creatures we haven't seen before, but I surely hope there is some rationally believable surprises in this movie. Hopefully it’ll take bigger risks in the movie itself. I know Prometheus is divisive and the characters were incredibly stupid but at least it was ambitious and it looked utterly gorgeous. The Alien franchise needs to keep making left field choices otherwise one might as well keep rewatching the first 3 films.

James Cameron with aliens took away that transparent shell of the head as he mentioned that it would break all the time with the more action packed scenes and so he decided keeping the original alien head wasn't necessary, ad he was right aliens was probably the best alien movie of the franchise. That's the trouble when such an amazing film makes you invest everything you have into it. Probably like me you have spent way too much time thinking about this franchise, so of course it hurts when they disrespectfully toy with it.

I appreciate your skepticism. Ever since the movie Pathfinder I never put faith in the quality of a film based on a trailer. I remember seeing the trailer for Pathfinder in theaters before 300 and being totally stoked for it. Before going to see Pathfinder I read several negative reviews yet I still believed these reviews were wrong because of how cool the trailer was. I've never been so wrong about something in my life. Good trailer does not equal a good film. Even moreso if you're dealing with a teaser.

100% agree. You have presented the best response out of all YT's that I've seen over the last week. I dont like any copying of scenes so the elavator scene put me off. If she dies then that will be fine by me by i doubt it. There's been a lot of comments about the protagonist being female again, there's been many wishing for a male instead or indeed more than one person. Not enough to go on at the moment but i do feel that they need to change it up a bit otherwise it's more of the same. Im also interested to see where the android fits in. It's unlikely that he came with the scavengers. If that's the case he's been on the station plotting until humans arrive.

Definitely agree with your assessment. Lots of things to like but a few things to be skeptical of. Teaser trailers always look awesome...I mean, that's their job, to whet the appetite, right? Hell, even the teaser for The Predator (2018) looked cool and that movie was one of the biggest dumpster fire clusterfucks of all time. I agree that this movie looks great visually in the trailer. It really does LOOK FANTASTIC and Fede clearly has tried to emulate the look of the first two films as well as Alien Isolation (which nailed everything on so many levels. Christ, just make THAT game into a movie and call it a day). But I still think we should take this trailer with a gigantic grain of salt, mostly because of all the things we've heard from the screenings leaks. If Big Chap really is somehow coming back and plays a major role in this film, I'm going to fall over from how far my eyes roll back into my head. Like I posted previously, I'll never understand this modern day obsessive need to connect everything together into the same continuous timeline. Just seems lazy and unoriginal. But to be honest, the one moment in the teaser that actually made me angry and gave me the "WTF are we in for" reaction was the shot of Cailee Spaeny holding the pulse rifle at the end. Such a blatant, obvious ripoff of perhaps the most iconic scene from Aliens when Ripley emerges from the power station elevator to begin her search for Newt. That moment legit gives me chills every time. It's the absolute peak of Ripley's bad ass determination and her ultimate "don't fuck with me moment." You could argue that the entire movie has been building up to that one incredible character-defining moment. I know I know, the scene from Romulus will be billed as an "homage" but Cailee Spaeny ain't no Ellen Ripley and Fede Alvarez ain't no James Cameron.

To me the alien franchise is by far the most exciting due to the other species being added in, such as the Predator, the species on Paradise, and most importantly, the Engineers. The first two I saw at age 15 and the 20., so of course at that age they shaped my cinematic memories. Each were different. Cameron's military versus aliens had unlimited well done action that stands out still today. The first can never be replicated as it was different from movies up to that time, absolutely convincing space scenes and the ship and alien ship design were exceptional, but what it made it work compared to all the others in the series was the competent writing and cast with real characters that disappeared one by one. It was the creepy buildup to more and tension that worked for the first move. My worry with this one is two dimensional characters, and over kill with the action where you see the " aliens" too many times in scenes instead of more imaginative use of cinema Oh and thumbs up for Prometheus that is one of those movies you can do a repeat watch of in the franchise/

This looks like a "Paint By Numbers" sub-par horror science fiction complete with all the box checks: Diverse young cast. Check. Big explosion. Check. Lots of chaos and running in dark hallways. Check. Stuff as much CGI in as possible. Check. Being overwhelmed by "more and scarier than the last time" monsters. Check. With such a high bar set of the first 2 films, and then a bunch of turds, the odds are high that this is going to be a disappointment. Nothing compelling enough for me to part with $20 to see this in a theater. I'll wait for reviews, then maybe watch it streaming. This trailer offers too many red-flags that support my theory this will be a below-average film. Red flags: Obviously a lot of CGI. The compulsive "bigger, more, badder" monster problem that kills so many franchises. CGI makes the temptation of "too much" easy to over indulge. The ship appears in perfect condition, another CGI problem. Young obviously diverse cast with what appears to be, YET ANOTHER, feminine hero. It has become such a predictable tired trope, it's ruined how many franchises now? Star Wars, Mad Max, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Ghostbusters, the Marvel Universe, Terminator, and on and on.... I readily admit that Alien and Terminator started, and perfected, the brave female hero but at this point it has become a desperate cliche joke that torpedos franchises.

Unfortunately, such notions were dismissed with the second half of the trailer, which was packed with fast-paced, action-packed sequences that were more reminiscent of Covenant, perhaps trying to appeal to the fans of Aliens? I think it would have been a ton of fun, had they filmed this on early 80's film stock, or to at least alter the digital look so that it matched closer that older films. The Omen prequel's latest trailer is a great example of clever marketing, where they made a new digital film look very old fashioned. Digital is boring to look at.

I am conflicted to hear these critiques about a proposed movie...only after a 1 minute teaser. Media has just ravaged the enjoyment level of any new presentation. Be it a stand alone or a sequel/prequel film. What happened to the days of going to the movie "blind".....without all these preconceived notions. We ,so called,FANS dissect and fawn over every CGI effect until the enjoyment and wonder is bleached out of any cinema experience. These KZread channels will become a dreaded and moot issue soon enough. Far too many Leaks and predictions are so self defeating. Sorry...I'm cutting off these little nuggets...the Marvel heyday is gone and the rest of the Studio franchises are all crashing. No wonder the big Cinemas are vanishing. I guess TCM and MeTV will rule the next era.

What happened to “just going to a movie blind” is terrible movies within franchises and ridiculous ticket prices. Waxing nostalgic doesn’t erase all these sequels largely being quite bad.

It's because we FANS are so tired of being burned, and I'm looong past paying $20 and wasting 3 hours to see a massive turd of a film crush my soul a little more destroying a favorite fanchise. Been there, done that, with the SW prequels and a few others. No thanks. I'll wait for the reviews and then maybe see it streaming. I'm a Gen Xer. My favorite childhood films/franchises have been RUINED by horrible modern renditions, remakes, sequels, and prequels. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Mad Max, Predator, Alien, Ghostbusters, The Thing, and a dozen more. The same formula: Young diverse cast of terrible wooden actors, massive amounts of bad CGI, bigger/badder enemies/issues, terrible writing, bad plots, and other nonsense. Sure, I can go revisit my old favorite classics, but I (and many fans) hate what has become of these and wish they'd been left undisturbed or done properly. Many of these franchises, like SW and Alien have far more bad entries than excellent ones.

I understand you buddy but I started to make these videos to engage with other fans simply because of the fact that I feel I've been tricked and disrespected so many times by studios and Just got sick of settling for bad movies. Now I think most of us can recognise the same formulas and sometimes agendas that pop up in trailers that I just gotta discuss them. I always try to stay objective in my thoughts with hating for no reason, I promise you that

Prometheus was a copy paste fest of unused alien Designs. I dont know whats worse, to do that or to recycle. Thats why alien 3 was the last original alien Film.

Not at all excited or optimistic about this new offering to a franchise that should've died out a long time ago. I can't imagine anyone would have a fresh take on this when the storyline is consistently the same: a face hugger impregnates a human, a small alien bursts from human chest then becomes a bigger alien later on. Am I missing something? And of course the frail humans will be victorious in the end. Yawn. Show me a movie where all the humans die and the aliens ride off into the sunset. I'll go see that.

Only way it works is if they're written a compelling script in terms of both narrative and believable characters. As you say, we've seen what the aliens can do so that should be secondary. I hope it's scary and violent but for the film to have an impact, the human side needs to be captivating more than just a xeno gore fest
