Wow. The silohouettes and designs are beautiful.
I saw this movie for an animation class; it was fantastic to watch!

I had to watch it too for class. We were learning about stop-motion and the teacher made us make our own silhouettes. So to understand it better he made us watch this old movie, it was interesting :)

Wow, Mohammad did a great job, I can't wait to see the final product.
I like how Aladdin appears in this movie. I'm surprised that the prince who showed up early in Aladdin was Achmed ( it's been so long since I've seen Aladdin ).

No one remembers Achmed.
This looks like an interesting one to watch.
The film is just beautiful visually, and I've always been a sucker for fantasy, no matter how simple it may be. Also, it's kinda cool how we're going from an Arabian Nights inspired story, to another one with Sinbad.
I think the most well-known inspiration is the way "The Tale of the Three Brothers" was portrayed in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince part 1. The moment I saw the sequence I knew that someone on the team had watched the work of Lotte Reiniger (who also did a number of short films) and the commentary confirmed it. It is worth to keep an eye out...sometimes there are live showings of Lotte Reiniger's work, either of this movie, or of one of her shorts with an orchestra attached. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to attend one of those showings. It is a great experience.
I've heard of this movie. There's this first animated movie that was made in Argentina, I forgot the name of it. Made in either the 1910s or 1920s. It is a lost film. The first American animated movie was Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs but that doesn't mean it was the first animated movie ever.

Sam Feldstein: Thanks for telling me, I forgot the title of it. Would've been nice to see the movie.
OH MY GOD I NEED TO WATCH THIS. IT IS MY DUTY!!!!
I saw this silent gem on Turner Classic Movies a couple years back. However, it was broadcasted very early in the morning while I was asleep. But I prerecorded it before going to sleep, so I could watch the next morning.
2:25-2:35: I am now slightly afraid of my favorite animal.
This movie is visually stunning!
I have seen this movie. I loved it. So good and fun.
Finally. A woman's animates project.
OMG YES!! "The Answer" was told in a lot of cutouts and profiles... esp. the scenes w/Blue Diamond. Very cool that Rebecca Sugar has been inspired by this!! (Oh. And definitely watch Steven Universe. It is hella amazing.)
Truly a time less classic. This movie kind of reminds me of an Animated feature called Princes and Princesses in it's art style.
I remember this! My parents recorded this off of the classic movie channel, and for the longest time, I thought I was the only one who knew about this movie! Loved this as a nice after-movie after watching Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans on the same tape. :)

I have GOT to find this!!
I remember watching this. I missed a day at school but it was so well worth it.
13:22 - I KNEW this movie reminded me of "Steven Universe", somehow! xD
Wow This looks awesome! I need to see this and the animation reminds me a lot of the shadow segments in Bear in the big blue house.
i am so inspired about this channel
Wow, great review as always, Aninat! I might actually look up this movie sometime, since being the oldest surviving animated film and still being this good? It's unheard of! And I'm very happy that it inspired that Steven Universe episode, being that it's one of my favorite episodes in the series, especially due to its beautiful and creative animation.

Look up Lotte Reiniger in general...this was the only movie she ever did, but she also did a number of shorts - mostly fairy tales - in this style. Sometimes they are still shown with an orchestra providing the music for them.
If there was a 1920's equivalent of Robin Williams, I'm sure this film could find use him
"The Girl and It" looks well made! =D Great job Mohammad

He didn't foreshadowed it well at all, he added the theme of the movie and everyone knows that Sinbad's poor box office reception and mixed reviews were what caused every single DreamWorks film from that point till this day to be fully CGI.
This is so cool
SILENCE! I KEE- wait, wrong Achmed.
I'm guessing that the next review will be about Sinbad, seeing that THAT was the movie that "inspired" the then cash-hungry Katzenberg to declare hand -drawn animation illegal in both Dreamworks and in Hollywood altogether (this trend is still up and running to this day).

Huh, I never made the connection between Prince Achmed and the backgrounds in The Answer. I figured it was going for a children's picture book vibe with the style. That's pretty cool!

Sinbad... OF COURSE!
Do The Lego Batman movie when it comes out on Friday. There is tons of good and bad animated and Live Action films. 2017 not looking so good especially for animated.2018,2019,2020,2021,2022,2023,2024 who knows about what to expect in the future. How about technology because that keeps changing.
Dang. I thought this was hand-drawn. This is really cool.
At first, it was hard to decide whether I liked this movie or not. I say multiple times that I despise animation projects with no voice actors, but since my viewing of this movie happened to include a narrator, the lack of voices did not bother me as much as I thought it would. Also, I liked Achmed somewhat more than I thought, because he turned out to have plenty of compassion for Peri-Banu. I also had a lot of sympathy for Alladin when he ended up in trouble with the king and had to make up for it in a big way. Then there is the witch, who instead of seeking power and fame, is actually compassionate enough to help Achmed and Alladin defeat evil. I can appreciate what Lotte Reiniger had to do to animate this movie as well, but that makes me feel more sorry for her, since it was probably very exhausting. Maybe I am just pitying someone who had to work too hard, but I guess I do like The Adventures of Prince Achmed. Does this mean I would recommend this for someone who likes the history of animation? Yes, absolutely.
Wow this film is pretty old

I think it looks like an Aaron Douglas painting come to life, with a hint of Asian (maybe less like the Middle East, and more like the Far East and/or Southeast Asia) shadow puppetry.
Sinbad obviously
Wait... Achmed.... I know that name from somewhere....like, the guy who got his heart boxers eaten by Raja!
Creepy silhouette
Also, might I point out, that yes, Sinbad is next cause I remember reading about Jeffery killing off traditional animation at their studios. It has pissed me off for the longest time and still does. I mean, this was the same man who worked at Disney and let great films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit get made, but when he was denied a position at Disney that opened up that he wanted, he got so butthurt about it that he left and formed his own company, in which he got to make two films that he was denied to make at Disney as well, which were (as some of you who watch Animat already know) Sinbad, and one of my personal favs, The Prince of Egypt. They were shining examples of what DreamWorks could pull off with their unique style of animation back in the 90s, but I still can't help but despise Jeffery for putting all this blame on his studio losing money just because they were traditionally done. It was a matter of having quality to their stories. Why do you think Disneys Lilo and Stitch was successful? Cause it had a good story with great characters. I suppose one other thing we got to take from this is with the rise of Computer Animation proving to be a formidable ground for telling incredible stories, it was a new format and thanks to the efforts of Pixar and then DreamWorks, they were fresh and new to the format and people really fell in love with it, so much so in fact that they started to lose interest by the 2000s. I think what I'm trying to get at is that while these studios are making a killing with their CGI works, you really shouldn't drop an entire animation format just because it's not popular enough. I say their should be times where some people at these studios that might want to try their hand at making a traditional animated movie and some animators that want to animate that way. I mean, what's the harm in releasing a traditional animated film every once in a great while? (LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD DISNEY!) and if you have an incredible story to tell with that movie, that's great, and many people out their can appreciate watching it cause you not only chose to have a great story with it, but to also have a beloved animation style to go along. Why do you think these independent animated films that get an Oscar nod every year are done in traditional animation? It's because their are people who love the art style. the creators love the format. It is not dead, it is still thriving. Not as much as it used to be, but it is still a thing. For Jeffery Kattzenburg to say stuff like "Traditional Animation is Dead" is near sided and all around disrespectful to those who appreciate the format and I can't get behind anything he does anymore.
I'm gonna assume the next review is for Sinbad. I don't think it's a terrible movie, but it's certainly not as good as Prince of Egypt or The Road to El Dorado. Speaking of which, I REALLY would love to see Matt's opinion on Prince of Egypt, as well as Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I feel like Spirit is often overlooked, which is a shame.
My review: Story 10/10 Animation 9/10 Characters 9/10 9/10 I LOVE this kind of movies!
Oh, I would *LOVE* for you to do Eight Crazy Night, Ant Bully and the Magic Riddle. Those are my suggestions.
Next animated movie to review: It's Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. Boy, it's a dark period and it still is but only on Traditional Animation. But it's not really a dark period for animation in general, we still got some great movies. But I'll be honest that I still really like to see a 2D animation for variety sake in mainstream cinema. However, there are some people on the internet who are innovating 2D animation, the look and feel of that format. One primary example is from DuoCartoonist I'm not sure if you heard of the couple animators, (Yes, they're a couple as I'm aware) but they did provide some fantastic animated videos called Children of the Night and The Moon Rises. I know you're not an MLP fan, Matt. But I do recommend you to check them out. Also check out their Tumblr page, they did something to ToomBoom animation program.
Kiss cartoon has this film on their website, I'm pretty sure.
nice
You definitely should watch Steven Universe if you get the chance. It is beautifully made.
Ironic how you reviewed Sinbad next since that’s another adaptation of an Arabian nights story
Suitable, one Arabian Night to another...
Sinbad's up next!
I adore this movie. As a young girl, I grew up loving folklore of any kind but I especially loved the Arabian Nights, and when my wife showed me this film a decade or so ago it took me straight back to my youth and reminded me of why I loved those tales. It really captured their magic and mystique. And the animation itself is still unique and beautiful. I really hope this video helps convince more people to see this picture!
Wow, Mahommed's movie looks like a combination of Prince Achmed ( I can see why he suggested it to you) Kubo and the two Strings, The Secret of Kells, Ori and the Blind Forest and Limbo
0:54 I don't care. But, thanks for telling me anyways.
I was right!
Sinbad is next?? Oh boy I adore that film!
No that is one of the most oldest movie of all know I hope you review the golden age of Disney animation movies
What did they animate these shadows with? Was it black paper cutouts? The animation is very impressive and fluent. 1920's

This is the oldest surviving animated feature? Disney lied about Snow White.
@ramonsancheztorello7111

I don't think so, it was just a popular myth that became general over the years due to the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the history of animated cinema. On the original poster for Snow White from 1937 it clearly says "Walt Disney's First Full-Length Feature" not "The First Animated Film Feature" Sometimes I have the feeling that Disney is being attacked without much reason or simply because some people don't like the company. By the way, the first animated feature film was The Apostle, directed by Argentine animator Quirino Cristiani in 1917.

Sinbad is next.......
I know what the next film is its Sinbad
But again, my biggest problem with this movie is that there are NO VOICE ACTORS! I don't think it's fair to blame the movie for being released before sound projects even existed, thus making voice acting impossible, but it's so hard to enjoy an animation project properly when there are no voices to listen to and guess who is talking. Yes, this is a minor issue and I can still appreciate Prince Achmed as a piece of animation history, but I have said multiple times and I keep saying it in the future, I would rather watch an animation project that HAS VOICE ACTORS.
Older than Snow White?
@swanpride
7 жыл бұрын
Snow White was the first US-American feature length movie, and the first one which used what we call today traditional animation. But in terms of animated movies in general, it was only number 12 or 13 or so.....there are a number of stop motion movies from Germany, France and Russia which are older. And naturally the lost ones from Argentina.
