Fun facts: -This was the first animated movie directed by Disney legends John Musker and Ron Clements, the duo behind classics like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog and Moana. -While it did well at the box office, The Great Mouse Detective was outgrossed by another mouse movie, An American Tail, directed by Don Bluth and released four months later. -Vincent Price also voiced another animated villain, Zig Zag from The Thief and the Cobbler. -Veteran voice actor, Candy Candido, was the voice of Fidget.

As much as I loved the original Great Mouse Detective film, I would definitely love to see a sequel! I mean seriously out of all the Disney sequels we got with The Rescuers Down Under, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and the upcoming Frozen 2 or even sequels to Marvel films, Star Wars, or even live action remakes they didn't even greenlit or make a sequel to The Great Mouse Detective?! The film's ending did show where Dawson is now serving Basil's assistant to solve cases and the sequel would've gone many adventures and mysteries for both Basil and Dawson to solve. If it wasn't for the Great Mouse Detective, Disney would have shut down their animation division and the Disney Renassisance would have never existed and we would've gotten so many beloved Disney animated films like The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Emperor's New Groove, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, Zootopia, Moana and so many more. The Great Mouse Detective save Disney from all of their troubles! That's a sequel everyone ask for and a sequel we really wanted to see.

This is a nice and wholesome little movie. Sure, there are a couple of extreme closeup jump-scare shots of Fidget’s horrid, bloodthirsty, ugly, disgusting looking face, but it’s still a great movie, nevertheless. Plus, Vincent Price did an excellent job at voicing Ratigan. That, and Zig Zag from the Thief and the Cobbler. Overall, this is miles better than Sherlock Gnomes. It's a great and fun movie I feel like not only the film is the reason that we got the Disney Renaissance but The Fox and the Hound as well Because that movie is the one where it started to have young people come in during the making of the film and those young animators are the people that would create the Disney Renaissance despite a lot of arguments during the production Looking forward you your review on The Fox and the Hound someday It's my favorite Disney film😊

This movie is #9 on my list of my favorite Animated Disney Movies. Ever since I was a child, I loved The Great Mouse Detective. It's just as Animat said, it's not the case to solve in this movie, it's the journey that is all about fun. And I always have fun watching this movie. For example, I personally see Olivia as my favorite character in this entire movie. Remember, I love child characters, and Olivia is no exception. Her cuteness as a child is what lets me sympathize with her when she loses her father. Don't get me wrong, Basil and Ratigan are great characters too, but Basil starts out quite selfish and its more around the middle that I start seeing his charm and laughing at his comedy. Also, Ratigan does deserve to be recognized as a Disney Villain, and I'm glad Vincent Price enjoyed himself so in his role, but since he's the one who kidnapped Olivia's father, that's more a reason to be mad at him than to like him (but I guess that's the point of a villain, isn't it?) Now, one particular scene that I love remembering is the bar sequence. It makes me think of Western Cowboys, one of my favorite genres in film. Not only does this sequence give me ideas for what a Cowboy saloon can be like, but as far as drunk references go, seeing Dawson get drunk is actually funny. And the battle of Big Ben? That was epic! That was an awesome sequence and I can only assume the animators had plenty of fun doing that. Yes, I would rather watch An American Tale more, but I will still gladly watch this movie for some cartoon fun.

Seriously, this movie is one of the most under appreciated Disney films I've ever seen, and I'm happy to finally see you do a review on it. So, from the comments I've been reading, it appears that the next classic review is a 1971 animated feature called The Point. Honestly my favorite thing about this movie is definitely Basil. He's so goddamn expressive and fluidly animated, his character design and movement made me grin each time I saw him on screen. But I also adore his personality, it's quite rare to see an early Disney's movie protagnist being such a dick it's honestly incredible. I love seeing his eccentric personality, witty actions and arogant behavior, he's a great foil to Watson and Olivia, that's why their relationship is do great. And god, his chemistry with Ratigan are just iconic, they are both such extra drama queens, I love them. They feel like ex-lovers who despise each other yet can't help but tease eachother because of their history, it's so funny. Basil is probably my favorite Disney protagonist and his relationship with the villain might also be my favorite need to think about that some more tho. Yeah, a very underrated movie indeed.

Definitely one of their most underrated ones. For my money though (potentially-controversial opinion alert) this is actually one of the few Disney classics that hasn't gotten a sequel, but totally could use one! I'm serious! Make a sequel to it with the same scale as the Rescuers Down Under, and make it a parallel to the Hound of the Baskervilles, and maybe even give it a theatrical release! Sure it's not the biggest name, but it's very much an ideal one that I would chose if I had to think of a sequel to make!

Fidget's first appearance scared the living shit out of me as a kid, that and Ratigan going mad with rage towards the end of the film didn't help at the time. But besides that, it's one of my favorite Disney movie! Great review @AniMat. BTW I saw that cell with Nicodemus from The Secret of NIMH next to Ratigan behind you.

The Great Mouse Detective is such an under the radar gem. This film had great and charming characters, and is one of the few times that you like a character for his intelligent. In a sense, this is one of the most intelligent Disney Animated films. Another thing to mention about the animation is that this film along with Black Cauldron improved the Xerography process by using the Animation Photo Transfer, which takes a drawing, then uses the negative to transfer to a cel, but instead of a sketchy black line, it uses a clean black line. The Black Cauldron uses color tones to the Xerox lines to give it a classic look. Great Mouse Detective instead decided to keep the black ink lines because not only does it save money, but it matches the environment of the backgrounds like they did with 101 Dalmatians. But thankfully with the APT process, the black lines look more solid and less sketchy.

Personally I'd rather have a prequel than a sequel, maybe one about some of the crimes Ratigan mentioned having committed in his villain song, or maybe a story that more emphasizes the mystery aspect (making that 'the clues are in' tagline more justified). I also wonder if every human in that world also has a mouse-world equivalent.
