The spasms you see aren't death throes. The squirrel is already dead. What you see is the energy stored in the corpse's muscles discharging. "Helicopter tail" is the sign of a good clean kill. Also, these squirrels are cannibalistic, but half the time they attack a dead mate it's either an attempt to start a mating ritual, or territorial aggression.

Squirrels are known to prance around near birds and simply act harmless and then strike days or even weeks later and kill and devour even quite large birds like seagull and geese. Very dangerous and aggressive animals if you are under 10lbs and aren’t an active predator yourself. They also habitually dine on carrion and are often cannibalistic. Skugs.

I checked out the graphic footage, and found that the A18 (which is meant for squirrels!) seemed to leave them struggling a lot more than the A24. Great vid either way!

Sorry to comment twice, but I just got mine today and it did not come with the bait package. Just a heads up to the next person. Going to try peanut butter with chunks of our pecans, since they are used to them and it might keep it from dripping in heat. What does anyone think about using a small coffee cup to cover the cover, which is said to be often chewed? Mine is light weight and just bigger than the trap, meaning it would need to be pulled straight up, evenly to come off. That's raccoon territory. Are they a threat too to the bait at 5 foot off the ground?

I usually mix red pepper flakes and seeds to keep the squirrels off the feeder cuz i don't want to kill them. Birds love the pepper but squirrels hate it (you have to use hot peppers). Chipmunks we haven't really dealed with yet, but aye that's what they do.
