Years ago, I fought and fought the squirrels then one day we just started feeding everyone and what a joy it is to have coffee in the morning and watch the wildlife from the many species of birds to squirrels, raccoons, opossum, fox, the occasional snake (we relocate these guys) Unfortunately the deer love the flowers and landscaping more than the seed....oh well,

when i was a kid i put 2 metal plates on mom's bird feeder, hooked em up to a model T Ford spark gap and a train transformer--zapped one whose tail got a stiff as a bottle brush--we never saw him again !

I hung a feeder 15 years ago, and after a few days added a second cone a few inches above the first. I've never had a squirel get past the pair and get to the bird seed.

Love your head of security, i have fought with grey squirrels for years, the best thing so far, as i am not clever enough to electric shock them is treating all bird foods with Ghost Chilli Powder, as squirrels have taste buds but birds do not, so does not harm the birds but it seems to repel the ruddy squirrels for a while.

Never Give Up!

I had a perfect squirrel proof bird feeder set up. A narrow pole with a baffle and far away from any trees, so they couldn't jump onto it. It worked great for almost a year. Then Bambi pushed it over and ate all the seeds. Set it up again and they pushed it over again.😠 Now I scatter a handful of seeds and nuts on the yard when I feel like it, and the critters can fight over it.

My simple squirrel fix was to run a steel cable from the garage to the house and hang the bird feeder in the middle of the cable. Not one squirrel ever got to the feeder. I also trap them and if worst came to worst, they get shot and end up in the squirrel graveyard out back. There's probably 75 bodies in the graveyard. Shooting use to be my 1st option, then trapping, and finally the cable which stopped the birdseed robbers cold. Gary Flagg Buffalo, N.Y.

I have not yet resorted to that point BUT as things seem to have settled down around the UFO via the Squirrel Grapevine, and no contestants wish to compete anymore, I am debating a catch and release program in order to allow Family and Friends into the competition. 🛸😜

Would you mind sharing 1. How you get the feeder up and down to fill and 1. How you stop it from sliding along the cable? I have squirrels and raccoons. Read that raccoons can’t climb cables so was thinking of stringing the cable between 2 trees. (Feeder is a squirrel buster from brome so squirrels absolutely can’t feed from it but raccoons tear it down, bend it etc.). Thanks in advance

I'm in the UK and wondered what power source was used? Of course we here are on a different electrical system to the USA, but intreged to know how it was actually constructed. I have subscribed. I can hardly contain myself, to see what you’ve engineered next . This is so exciting. I’m not a physicist, engineer. I did trap the little beasts , drove them down to the state park , set them free. 🤨 that became very expensive . So air pistol pellet gun was cost effective. I would not allow those vermin to attack the migratory birds nor the species that stay year round. ✌🏼🫶

My squirrel deterrent is a .177 pellet. If applied correctly, the squirrel does not return, ever. For those that only received but a flesh wound, well let’s just say they are really skittish. All it takes is very little noise of the door knob being turned and they are gone in a Flash. Between me and the hawks, both the squirrel and rabbit population is currently at a low point
