The $4000 Electric Car Dominating China

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

American-Chinese joint venture SAIC-GM are taking the Chinese market by storm with their Mini EV, with sales rivalling even the likes of Tesla. But what does it mean for the companies, for China, and for the rest of the world?
There seems to be a distinct barrier around China when it comes to trading - things don’t quite work like they do between the US and, let’s say, the UK. Restrictions are placed on what can be imported as well as exported via its borders. But Chinese motor company SAIC, the name behind the revival of British brand MG, has teamed up with multinational giant General Motors to come up with a mass market electric car.

@@rachmatzulfiqar it has a max speed of 100kph though i don't suggest running it at that, and has a range 100mi or something. It looks small but it's actually like a Smart and with the batteries they are hot swappable they have charging stations in China that does the standard charging, fast and HS type. So I don't know what they plan on other countries but that's the reason this car and the other GM EVs do in China. This is why small EVs are popular in China, the batteries are lighter and easier to swap in the process. It only takes 3 mins for the machine to change it. EV Motorbikes in Taiwan do the same thing, it's like going to petrol station, remove your battery, put it in an open slot and get one that's fully charge, by hand.

This would be about 10-12.000 USD in Europe, after certification, taxes and mandatory safety systems that this car probably don't include. Look for example at some cars in India, which you can't find in Europe but they sell them for 4-5K USD, and the European equivalents of these cars, e.g. Renault KWID ~ 3500 EURO, costs over 10K USD, Dacia Sandero, ~ 12K EURO. Renault City K-ZE, about 8000 EURO China -> Dacia Spring, ~ 17.000 EURO Europe.

I bought one, and imported it into the United States. I really did, for less than $45. It's Sky Blue in color, like my last new car, a Toyota Camry.... Drumroll....... OK, I must admit, it's a die-cast model reproduction, but I feel it will be a collector's item when I am 90 in 30 years, I can fly to China to sell it on China's version of "Antique's Roadshow". A car like this I wish could come to the US. All crash testing has done is increased the price of cars, forcing many to choose less safe motorcycles or e-scooters. The most important thing about car crashes is not getting into one, and/or accepting the odds that they can happen, but usually if you choose your route carefully instead of picking the most congested way to go from Point A to Point B, they will not happen to you. If I were in one of these, I'd just wear a motorcycle suit with ambient cooling--they should make them for e-vehicles like this anyway, since the one thing I've heard about this car is its A/C just does not work. Two things have caused challenges for cars and their longevity. Electronics mixed with internal combustion engines, and of course, the car's purpose. E-cars like this one are fine for home dwellers, but those who live in US apartment complexes are left out of the market and I'm a former homeowner who found apartment living cheaper than the cost of owning a home once utilities are packaged into the price. I will never go back to owning a home again since my 22 yo daughter has chosen to have a career of her own, rather than straddling her parent's back looking for eternal shelter, more power to her, though we gave her the choice, we also taught her living economics, being experienced suburban dwellers and city dwellers vs. living in the middle of nowhere, like Kansas or Montana. Comin' on up however are e-scooters for single urban riders, some with a 50 mile range, foldable so they can be carried up stairs, and able to keep up at residential speeds of 25mph or 33kph. They are coming out of China as well, and it stands to reason a country that has had the largest population in a space no larger than the US would have good ideas about urban transport without the "road rage" we can't seem to avoid here in the US. We in the US (most of us) want space, living room, whereas I think like the Chinese and Japanese and others who work and live together and prefer human interaction than listening to Coyote's and Wolves howl at night, I think family, and groups of families, rather than tribalism, and bows and arrows, lol... Don't get me wrong however, some of my American roots, a tincy five pct, go back to New England Native tribes and my daughter has hispanic roots, courtesy the one who we've shared life together with, which are said to have come from Asia, during the last Ice Age. I can see that Asian twinkle in her eye every time we eat noodles or skabetti...
