As a 44 year old police officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (aka: a Canadian Mountie), a husband to a loving wife and father of two kids, doing these 4 exercises consistently over the last number of years has allowed me to reclaim my fitness.
Without a doubt, doing these 4 exercises consistently has gotten me into the best shape of my life.
It doesn’t matter who you are. Whether you’re a beginner or someone who’s been training for a long time. If you commit to doing these 4 exercises consistently, they will drastically improve your fitness.

As for the consistency piece, I think that’s pretty common for us all. It certainly is for me man. Even for the people who show or seem like they’ve got it all together.     i agree with your exercises. they are readily available to anyone and can be combined to make a fast and effective workout. all you need is a chinning bar.

    Great video David. I struggle with pull ups but am using a band. I never thought of a chair. I will try that sometimes. Thanks for sharing

    Yeah the chair works okay Richard. The band is best but if someone really wanted to work on their pull-ups and didn’t have any equipment, the chair would get the job done👍. Thanks for the comment man👊.

    I’ve reluctantly added pull-ups back into the lineup. I use to have to do 40lb weighted pull-ups when i was on the team for out PT test. When I quit that, I also quit the pull-ups. Never been good at them. Since I’m working out for me now, I’m using a band and getting back at em.

    Yeah I hear ya Adam man. Doing stuff for yourself is way more impactful than simply doing it for the job. Good on you for getting back at it though man. The band has been a great help to me over my time training. I’m sure it will do the same for you👊. I’ll be looking for you to use it in a short now😉.

    Pull-ups, push-ups and squats (and variations thereof) are the holy trinity of exercises. Burpees are your stairway to heaven. Nice vid David. More importantly, what is going on with those lower standard gloves? Has it warmed up there in Newfoundland & Labrador?

I seriously debated on going with the beaver mitts, if only for consistency sake haha. In the end the “lower standard” ones won out. I’ll try not to disappoint you again Bruno man😂👊.

    Those are my faves. Pull-up, push-up, sit-up, squat! Burpees combine all of them except the pull-up.

    Yes the core is definitely a good one to get in the mix Derek man. And 24 hours of burpees. If you can get that thing organized, it will be an epic event. Good on you for taking it on👊!!

    @@oosiris I would offer but the unpredictability of my job would not be ideal for what you looking for and need. I can get called into work at any time because I’m on call 24/7 for the entire time I’m here. But you can count me for participating 100%!

    Hey Eugene man👊. Thanks for the question! Here’s the long answer haha. After I reached level 4 there back in December and got the brown t-shirt, I’ve definitely moved on to other types of training. I don’t think I’ve done a 20 minute workout since🤦‍♂️haha. I don’t have any immediate plans to record the 20 minute BDP workouts, but I do think that I will attempt to reclaim those level 4 numbers as the summer time approaches. June and into July month I’d say👍. I really enjoyed the challenge of pushing myself for those numbers but I personally don’t enjoy doing those workouts week in and week out. But you know Eugene, I really do appreciate you saying that you enjoyed those vids👍!! They were a lot of fun to record and put together so I’m glad at least yourself enjoyed them haha. Aside from the BDT vids, are there any other types of videos or topics you’d like me to do? If so, feel free to let me know and I’ll see what I can come up with. Thanks again brother👊💯!

    Yes I’m there with you too Paul man. Totally agree! I was gonna add the lunge as an option during the squat portion of the vid. In the end I thought I’d try to keep the vid as short as possible. But yeah brother, the basic bodyweight training is phenomenal for us middle aged guys and people with busy lives. With that said, I have no idea how old you are🤣? My guess is somewhere around 35😬🤷‍♂️👊.

But I don’t know about you Paul man but I feel pretty good. Got a few aches and pains but overall, not to bad. I’d say the burpees and exercise are a good reason for that though👍.

    Yeah Llody man, being next to the ocean is beautiful, on the beautiful days anyway. It’s generally pretty windy so I’m thankful for a few days here and there when I can shoot some clips outside👍. And yeah man, for people with busy lives, work, kids, wives ect…..the basics are more than enough. Throw in some sit-ups and a heavy bag and boom 💥, all the bases are covered. Enjoy the rest of your day man👊!

    It was only about -10 when I did this vid. Even warmer today at around -3 Celsius. It’s been a warm winter here. We’ve only had a few weeks where it was properly cold, like -20’s and colder. I’m sure it’s nowhere near that in your neck of the world haha.

    Yeah man the rural scenery is definitely nice. I’m always thankful for it and happy to try and show it off really😁. As for a trip over, about a week ago I looked a flights from here to the UK. Just for a laugh. Most flight out of Canada fly into Manchester, North of you. I couldn’t find any direct into stoke. I’d prob have to check local UK airlines for those shorter flights. Anyway it was about $2,000 Canadian for the round trip haha. So a little out of the realm of possibility right now. My wife and I will take the kids to Scotland when they get a bit older and are able to remember it. I do realize that’s a hell of a lot further north from where you are👍. For now I’ll take my vacation to the sunny southern locations. Just curious though, how long a drive is it from Manchester to Stoke?

    @DavidWhitten about 45 -60 mins depending on the traffic on the m6 motorway. Maybe 75 mins if you tool.the back roads! But bruv.. Even if u came to Scotland me n birko would defo make the journey come see you. As I'm.sure a few other uk heads would. Your a much loved member of this community! What's a 5 odd hr drive come see someone from half way round the world!

    @@parradox83 🤣👌 glad you liked that man. Air Canada is the only airline in Canada that would fly over to the UK and beyond. I punched in Goose Bay (my closest airport) to Stoke on Trent and the computer was, no flights available😂. But yeah man, I shit you not, if we’re still talking when we make that trip, I 100% will give you a heads up.

    Great video and selection David If we would assume that push ups are included in the burpee, I would pick running as number 2 instead of push ups But nobody would like that as a number 2 haha Short and to the point, enjoyed the talk!

    Or, if we maintain the proper ratio of squat to push in our Burpees we have running covered. Then all we need is a pull. All movement comes from squat, pull, push.

    @@oldnatty61 good point man! I think that running can’t be replaced by any combinations of exercises Running is the most basic exercise when it comes to functional training That is my perspective Everybody should run to some degree, if the body still allows it

    @@SimonTrageser I know you love running, as do I. I wish I still could, and I agree those that can should. But running only trains one aspect of fitness, and it really doesn't do that well. Running will get you an "A" in running. For something to be a basic functional training exercise it's got to deliver at least "C's", but, hopefully, some "B's" across all aspects . If we're talking calisthenics that's going to be Burpee variation, and, maybe, Mt. Climbers. If we're allowing equipment that would be odd object carries.

    @@oldnatty61 I’m like you OldNatty in that I love running and think it’s a great form of exercise. But my knees are shot and I’m just thankful I can still squat and lunge. Running would make me a cripple in a matter of 100 meters😂. And to Simon’s point, if I could run, I would. Plain and simple🫡.

    Yeah believe it or not, there’s many days I don’t particularly enjoy them. That’s what I love about having the kettlebells and weights in the basement now👍. So many other options to keep things interesting. Now the only question left to answer is, what will my first workout be at the new Clarksville Barbell gym🤔….

    great exercises squats can be a tough one for a lot due to the flexibility getting down low and amount of energy they use up but yes the burpees are an all over body blaster and get a full body workout in a short space of time increasing cardio building muscle and losing body fat all at the same time! nice work my friend 👍💪🏻🫡

    It good to know others feel the same way about the squat. I think it’s highly underrated, because as you said, there is a huge cardio component to them in addition to the obvious leg work.
