Scoot defender here; everyone saying he is a bust and a bad pick from Portland is insane. Yes he has not been that good his rookie season, but he is a 20 year old guard who is the only rookie to have games with over 15 points and 10 assists, and he had like 4 of them. Not every player can come in and immediately dominate. Look at Shai’s, Haliburton, dj murray, Bradley Beal and many others rookie seasons. His two way ability and physical tools make his potential a lot higher than everyone makes it seem like.

5:18 I mean there is. The first 20 games of the season he averaged 11 on 37% from the field and 25% from three. In his last 20 he averaged 16 on 40% from the field and 34% from three, and add 7 apg to that as well. I feel like people were too quick to write him off and didn’t really give him a chance after that abysmal start but after awhile he found some comfort in the league. Although his percentages still aren’t great, you can obviously see an improvement and I feel like that speaks volumes as a rookie and he’s proved himself to be a top 3 player in this draft.

3:57 I’m a Hornets fan that wanted the team to draft Scoot. I wasn’t against drafting Brandon. But I thought Scoot would make a good running mate, and insurance policy for LaMelo. I still think Scoot will be a really good player. But I am really excited to see Brandon Miller continue to develop in Charlotte. He’s already a solid 3 level scorer. I don't get Jimmer's concerns... Scoot is still the right pick at 3 easily because of his upside. Sure players like Amen, Lively, and Jaquez outplayed him this year in terms of value, but Scoot is playing on a rebuilding team with injuries and tons of lineup changes. Even still, he led all rookies in APG even having a game with 14. His shooting was abhorrent but his free throw percentage was elite showing that his shooting numbers 'should' turn around with coaching and experience. I'd still prefer Scoot over all the other players after him just based on his upside. The only rookie PG that actually had a better season overall was Amen and his FT and 3pt shooting is even worse....

@@k4ivy I agree that he also has a really high upside but the thing with shooting is this: Free throw shooting is a really good predictor of how "fixable" your shot can be. Since Scoot's is way better already, I see his shot improving faster and to a higher degree especially when Scoot isn't asked to be such a high level playmaker this early in his career i.e., they get players to surround him with like Amen currently has with Sengun and Green.

Suggs seemed like a bust in his first two years, but he's now the third-best player on the Magic roster, improved as a shooter and potentially 1st team all defensive.Similarly, Garland was like a bust too especially with Sexton averaging 20 points, but when Sexton got injured, Garland got more playing time, thrived, and became an All-Star. Portland is in a similar situation with two 20-point scorers in Simons and Grant. When they were injured, Scoot started to looking like a third overall pick player. So, let's give Scoot some time and hope Portland trading their veterans to pass the torch to Scott and Sharpe.
