Whatever fitness Kipchoge has lost to Father Time has only brought him somewhat back to the rest of the field. He still leads that field by an absurd distance. We should all consider ourselves lucky to watch this man run. Appreciate greatness y’all!

Kipchoge is not only a marathoner, he is a sportsman. I have come to like his mentality and respect he has for others. I am thinking of starting running short marathons and if possible '' keep jogging club '' I wish to congratulate the young girl who came third from TZ. Thanks to Nation TV and all those who made it possible for us viewers to enjoy watching.

saw him at km 9 and a couple hundred metres before the finish line yesterday and I can tell you every single person there was in awe of him, new world record or not. this man is phenomenal. keeping a pace for 42km that most people wouldn’t even reach for a short sprint, truly one of the best athletes of our time.

I’m going to assume a race strategy necessary to drop everyone early is not one that would result in a WR. Can’t blame him for wanting to secure a 5th victory first and foremost

Shame the younger guys only decided to race for second...they would have caught him today ithey had been braver...even not being brave they had closed to 40 seconds...Kip still a fantastic runner but you have to suspect he has peaked time wise...Only a matter of when and where when one of the ever improving group of youngers break the veil of reputation down....great victory for Kipchoge but defending his Olympic title in Paris will be difficult in the extreme...wouldn't be surprised if Kiptum has broken the world record by then....The real highlight of Berlin was the Women race which was astonishing.

If Kiochoge had switched his focus to the marathon earlier in his career, I think he had a real chance of breaking 2 hours in competition. He was primarily a track athlete until the age of 27 or 28.

People need to consider wind and heat vs WR as well. I managed the same time as my first with significant training in Australia but the heat was a huge factor. Everyone’s result was impacted and on this level even a degree or two would make a difference

And now from excited to sad af right? It's honestly too sad and I doubt I will ever get over it. He would be the man to go sub 2 in an actual marathon. We will have to wait another decade for someone of his caliber to make us even believe the 2 hour barrier is not really a barrier.

@@bapee8235 Exactly, usually those with a short career are what-ifs. He's a total outlier-should be considered the 2nd greatest ever in the marathon. He showed that 2 hours is not just something Kipchoge can dare to dream and broke that mental barrier for everyone else with so little experience, that's his real legacy that will last.
