You help me look at films from a new angle, in a way that is fresh from other online media reviewers. You honestly changed my look at Birds of Prey from thinking, "Its a good time" to "Yeah, this is subtle genius." Here's hoping this year is only a garbage can fire.

I don't have an echo chamber, I talk about the unnecessary nature of most of the gross unjustice going around and I get crickets, or warnings against communism. I come to this channel because I'm too damned exhausted to explain to people that I'm not a communist or a socialist and that nothing I want undermines the democratic republic I live in... and that yes, my job in the Game Industry absolutely impacts and has a responsibility to culture and political policy. I come here to not feel crazy and isolated. So thanks for continuing to put content out.

I respect the message of It's a Wonderful Life, but also had to participate in a high school production of it with a guy who THOUGHT his Jimmy Stewart impression was much better than it was, so my reaction is visceral.

What an emotional journey. This ended and I said, aloud, to no one but my dog, “dam he killed that.” My dog agreed.

I wanted to watch only about five minutes of this today since it was very late, but couldn't make myself stop and watched the entire thing. Because wow. I'll be thinking about this one for a while. It made me very emotional, definitely cried a couple of times (in a good way; it was cathartic). And actually learned a lot of new stuff, which is also super important. Thank you for your work!

@kshamwhizzle Absolutely. Just as bad as poor people in the U.S. who vote Republican. Chances are, they're never going to be rich. Yet they can't stop supporting rich people who don't care about them, because they don't want to admit they'll never be rich, famous or powerful.

I spend hours watching all kinds of film video essays on KZread and find your channel to bring up the most interesting and nuanced points - not to mention intellectually honest. Frankly, I learn something new each time. Hope you are hanging in there and know that your viewers highly appreciate the immense amount of effort and thought that goes into your content :)

I've been a fan since this dude hit the "f--k your feelings" reviews of Candyman and Gone with the Wind. This video makes me wish we could get drinks together. Lol, hilarious that it's now more impossible due to pandemic than due to he's a KZread star that lives God-knows-where from me (DC).

"But then I guess that would explain why the national discourse went from 'Frontline workers are national heroes' to 'The fifteen-dollar minimum wage will tank the economy' so quick." Mic fucking dropped. 🎤

I’ve always watched It’s a Wonderful Life, or at least parts of it, every single Christmas I can remember. But I didn’t really understand it until 2020. My dad and I celebrated Christmas alone. No aunts, uncles, or cousins. Even in years when it’s been small, we’ve always had my brother and my grandma around. But my grandma died in October, and my brother was serving the last few days of his jail sentence. It was surreal, everything we tried to do just reminded us of everything we were missing. We wrapped up the evening watching It’s a Wonderful Life, and it was the first time in a while that either of us watched the whole thing. I can’t articulate it but there was a special kind of comfort there. Things are shitty. 2020 has, objectively, been the worst year ever for both of us-and that tops the year I dropped out of college twice and lost my uncle. But it’s too early to give up. It’s a Wonderful Life, if nothing else, is about hope. I’m not a hometown hero and I’m still stumbling my way through college but I’m still hopeful for tomorrow.

Ive been saying this forever about Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. At the very least they shouldn't be allowed to get awards if they are going to do this verticle integration is no different than the studio-theater duo that existed before.

Wow. Wow wow wow. What a video to pop on during a work lunch break. “Running as fast as I can just to stay in the same place” - sums up my feelings so perfectly, especially in terms of plans for a creative future. And adding in not contributing as George Bailey has... this got to me. Tremendous job, as always.

I watched this in the midst of a major depressive episode and I don't know how to articulate just how much I needed this exact sort of video right now, so I'll just say thank you.

This video really put me on an emotional roller coaster but I feel better than before I watched it. Also helped with my partner chanting at the TV "show me the movie, show me the movie!" when you did the frome spotlight at the end

Well great, after chilling through this catastrophe thanks to depression, suddenly I'm crying.

This video went soooooo far beyond any expectations I had. Everything you said hit my soul so deep it actually felt concave for a second. Cannot wait for the top ten this video inspired. 👏

I watch a lot on youtube. I have my science, engineering, history and of course hockey channels, a few for brain candy, but none make me think like *this* channel.

Thanking the wonderful commenters who ensured KZread's algorithm will put this video on my home page. Can't believe I almost missed watching this. And to you good sir, my gratitude is tenfold for opening my eyes to some previously held and uncontested belief in movies and even in life. Just dropping in to echo what has already been written. It's so hard for me to try and describe just how much your channel means to me. There is no other channel that I actively refer people to, and rewatch videos from than this one. Somehow I missed this when it was first released, and I am really sorry for it, but extra pleased that I got a second chance to watch it now. Even reading all the comments here. You have some amazing people who feel the same. You absolutely have a community.

I needed this video so bad, thank you. Don’t invalidate what you are doing, life to me is all about those moments of realization, of understanding. And watching your videos always provides those. But you have this voice that still gives hope and joy and makes me laugh.

You've made me re-evaluate several films and given me the opportunity to share your experience of the past year, all the while raising the bar on how compelling and moving a KZread video can be. In terms of realising your dreams and judging your achievements, take heart from how far you've come experimenting with this short video form (okay, not so short these days) from 'top ten annoying tropes' to what you can do now... and how much it means to the people who watch... and how palpably excited we are to see what will come next. And you're not just helping us think more substantively about the art we watch, you're changing the way we think about the world and our place in it. For example, watching this I became acutely aware that I may belong to the last generation that will live in anything approaching comfort. That's not right. The past year has made it all too apparent how urgent change has become. Well, I'd certainly be among the townspeople rushing to lend a helping hand to your George Bailey in his time of need, because you're one of the good ones. One of those people who enriches others' lives, merely by being there. Keep lassoing that moon. You're gonna catch it, in some form or another. How could you not?

For the love of God, please keep going. There's so many film analysis channels on youtube, but only a few speak so potently and personally to our present moment. As someone who's felt crazy isolated and sometimes despondent in the past year, working remotely in a city I can't even enjoy or interact with, the best videos on here make me feel less alone and make me think too. I can't say exactly what it is but the way this is paced and presented is just excellent. Usually I get distracted and need to go and play sudoku after 10 minutes before coming back to a video, but it's 30 minutes in and I'm still hooked. It's great!!
