Do we know who's doing the commentary.?? "Yorkshire county is a big place'. I know that Yorkshire IS a county, but we would never phrase it like that. This woman is clueless!

The thing is, I have a Scottish mum and a Welsh dad, and I was raised in North Yorkshire. I don't know what kind of accent I have, because I don't sound like anyone I know. My accent is like one on its own Also I LOVE that they showed The Bastard Pac for the Geordie accent. Quality 👊

@White-Dragon I can detect accents, I work in hospitality so I speak to may people who say my voice is very sexy cuz it's deep, bit they all think I'm from elsewhere cuz I don't sound from Yorkshire or Northern at all. I'm good at detecting accents cuz I'm a stand up impressionist too

@@example2844 I live in Devon but grew up in Dorset and I can just pick up a slight accent sometimes. It's especially surprising when I hear a local saying "me luver" to someone in conversation, because Dorset people never use that expression.

Welsh isn't an accent.. There isn't one Welsh accent. The North Welsh accent is a lot different from the South Wales accent for example. Scottish isn't an accent either lol. This was definitely a poll conducted only in England

I think people are confusing accent with dialect. Accent-Pronouncing words that occurs among the people in a particular region or country. Dialect- a variety of a language spoken in a particular geographical area or by a particular group.

Apart from Danny Dyer, those cockney accents weren’t really cockney accents. I’m a native Londoner and I don’t have a cockney accent, I have a southeast London accent and that’s a bit different. Not many Londoners are cockneys and we don’t all sound the same either.

When this came out and suggested cockney was sexy I realised it was a spoof. It was a parade of the worst accents (apart from Yorkshire and Scots) in the nation, and pushed the standard idea that the southern Wales accent is _the_ Welsh accent - but the proper one is from the areas where the speak Welsh. As it's a spoof I am surprised Liverpool didn't win.

Poor list. Don't relegate our Welsh and Scottish friends to just a generic sweep. North Welsh is far different to South. Highland Scottish is vastly different to Edinurgh and Glasgow etc etc. It's a bit of a cop-out... Also Derbyshire isn't pronounced like that... Also no love for the North West? 😔

I had same issue with northern Irish and aye same with Scotland like you can go from Peterhead to Aberdeen in North Scotland and accent is completely different and so forth like aberdeen to Glasgow to Edinburgh etc then West Coast Scotland speak Scottish, aberdeen Doriac as oppose to English usually and in northern ireland it'd actually Ulster Scots and obviously welsh their own language and english too. This was infuriatingly video

@Allen Sale Doesn't matter, I work in publishing I'm also dyslexic, it's common to have these sort of things proofed before release. Also being dyslexic doesn't mean you shouldn't know how to pronounce Derbyshire 😆

It's probably one of the worst accents in the UK. It's irritating, especially when you start sounding like Wayne Rooney and all phlegmy...

I'm an American, but I recently have had a thing for the Scouse/Liverpool accent because of this one girl in my government class.

This American can barely hear any differences haha. My wife recently said "Can you learn a British accent" after we watched a movie called Home for a Royal Heart. I then said some words and she was like "Not like that - Google "Sexy British Accent". Anyone know what accent Dan Jeanotte is using in that movie?

WatchMojoUK really needs to get more facts about Ulster is one of the four traditional Irish provinces on the Island of Ireland. It is made up of nine counties: six of these constitute Northern Ireland, the remaining three are in the Republic of Ireland, Donegal, Monaghan, and Cavan which is also part of Ulster. Derbyshire is pronounced DAR-bee-sheer, not DER-bee-sheer.

I have trouble identifying UK accents (I'm from Los Angeles), but I do love Yorkshire, Scottish, and Scouser accents. I find RP kind of off-putting, tho, maybe because posh people make me uncomfortable.

I call it "Fascist English" or just "Toff". It's the accent used mostly by the upper-class Imperialistic gits in our society. Being American, I think you'd like West Country quite a lot, because that's where most American accents originate.

@@white-dragon4424 I was taught that American Southerners speak the way we do now because most of the original settlers who became the big landowners were from the north of England.

My favourite, most attractive British accent is the Cheshire accent, RP, elegant, just a touch of Northern. I guess the closest famous person with this accent is Ken Barlow from Coronation Street. Generally, subtle accents and well spoken is my preference. I guess I'm biased as I speak like this myself! I also rather like a subtle Welsh accent like Jamie Owen the ex BBC Wales Today newsreader. Living in London sadly though one doesn't hear these kinds of people, am very deprived!

It's an accent thing. For a number of British people, the "S" sound in a word like "pronunciation" or even the word "assume" ends up changing to an "sh" sound.

As you said, RP isn't a natural accent. It's an accent of class/money and education, so it doesn't count. Welsh comes in different forms. You've got the broad version like those shown in the clip, then you've got southern Welsh found in places like Cardiff, which doesn't sound much different to West Country just across the Bristol Channel. Speaking of West Country, you have soft West Country found more in urban areas, then you've got the very broad "pirate/farmer" West Country found in more remote rural areas. There's also subtle differences in lingo, such as Devonian's penchant for for saying "me luver" (i.e. friend or buddy), which other counties in the West Country don't use. And no, I don't agree with your picks, especially your choice for No. 1. Although I don't come from the area, I'd put London Estuary English at number one for easiest to listen to British accents, followed by West Country, Southern Welsh, then maybe Birmingham and Cockney.
