Great video. Several are available in my neck of the woods, so I’ll be seeking them out. Have already tried and liked the Tondonia 2010 - glad to hear that the 2011 is also worth going after

I completely agree that Heidesick champagnes offer fantastic value and outperform their competitors. Cantemerle offers great value in good vintages as well and 2009 is beautful throughout Bordeaux. In 2023 I had a 2009 Lagrange, Poyferre and Langoa Barton. All of them were excellent but the Lagrange and Langoa were particularly memorable even though the 2009 Poyferre was their prized 100 point wine that they promote at the chateau when you visit. The Langoa is being sold for $100 at Total Wine and while that's not cheap it seemed like good value for the complexity and intensity it delivered after 15 years. For something new in 2024, have you tried many wines from Lebanon. The most internationally renowned is Chateau Musar. A personal favorite of mine that I think would appeal to you as a Bordeaux lover is Atibaia. I'm not sure how easy it will be for you to get your hands on them. I visited the winery in Batroun in 2023. Their 2014 is a really beautiful and powerful wine with great length and it's still very youthful. At home I have the 2009 (their first vintage) as well as the 2014 and 2015. The 2014 impressed me more than the 2015 but I've had previous vintages in past visits and it's a consistently excellent wine. Syrah du Liban is another enjoyable rich wine from Domaine des Tourelles in the Bekaa valley in Lebanon.

I must say when I tried the 2009 Leoville Poyferre at the Union des Grand Cru in2011 I felt the wine was highly extracted and over the top for me. Another so called 100 point wine Trolong Mondot mirrored the Poyferre while being so alcoholic. I do own some Chateau Musar.

An excellent, nuanced commentary on the reality of reviews in general. Your personal top 10 shows that there are excellent wines everywhere. Affordable and wines that inspire. That list says something, in a positive sense, about your philosophy regarding wine and wine experience! Indeed a breath of fresh air your vision, which more people indicate. You often see the same (prestigious) names passing by, increasingly unaffordable. These may of course be shown, but also show the alternatives (as in your list, Produttori del Barbaresco for example.) However, these are often lesser known names, who score less quickly and attract large groups of viewers. Looks like you have the experience, knowledge and quirkiness to find and show these wines! Because there is also an audience for that, as your channel shows. Thank you for your enlightening view and passion. Best wishes for 2024!

GREAT videos Tom! The youtube algorithm recently dropped your “Wine Cellar Journey” video into my feed & I’ve watched several of your other postings from the last 1yr+ (fantastic & informative!). Could you please post a video on ageing wine? It would be helpful to hear your thoughts on varieties/producers/labels to consider, and what results can be achieved from the years of patience (maturity to the drinkable product for enhanced enjoyment)…. I have yet to layup any bottles myself, BUT am very curious for a REAL download on the benefits for the time invested. Thank you!

Good down to earth recommendations Tom. Meyney and Cantemerle are still my favorite "cheap" Bordeaux. The best cheap Bordeaux I ever tased was the 1982 Grand Ormeau. Paid $8.00 for it in 1985. Outstanding wine! Another very good cheap Bordeaux IMO. Happy New Year BTW!

One my favorite inexpensive Bordeaux was the 1982 Meyney. I procured 2cs at $7.00 a bottle. Had a bottle about a year ago and it was singing so softly with fine crisp fruit. Still have 9 bottles. The lesser wines over performed in this vintage. The 1982’s was a tide that lifted all boats.

Welcome aboard! I see Cellar Tracker as a public sounding board for the wine drinking public. Generally, reviews are more recent than wine publications. It doesn’t matter whether you agree or disagree with a review but treat it as added input to help you make your buying decisions. My judgment many times differ from the wine critics.

You can find some great (cheaper) South African pinot noir in South Africa that are also Burgundian in style. For example Serendipity, it's a wine by Monique Breuer. She aims to be the first to make 6 different pinot noirs in 6 different countries, spanding over all continents where it's able to make wine (so 5 since Antarctica is a no go ofcourse). I drank it in a flight which consists of Californian, South African and Burgundy and the Burgundy wine was just a pinch better in my opinion, worth a try!

No, 99.9% of wine drinkers are priced out of the Burgundy market. The one thing I would say is that they will be priced too high (except for billionaires).

After 1 or 2 glasses of La Consulta Malbec Catena i get so bored of it, it is so one demensional, only fruit fruit fruit tuti fruit tuti this tuti that fruit. Nothing but fruit, nice wine for a birthday celebration with prople who just want a tuti fruti wine, it’s almost to sweet.

Sorry for your taste experience but I enjoy this wine because of it’s rich, ripe fruit with balancing acidity. It is a young wine and will soon shed some of it’s baby fat.
