I think you're absolutely right. As a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, I knew many Special Forces soldiers and several Delta Force operators. Later, as CIA operations officer, I knew many Special Activities Division guys whose job was sometimes to do the kinds of things that James Bond did. The one characteristic that they all had in common was that they lived intense and dramatic lives, with little fear of risk-taking, even if it resulted in getting killed. They also felt contempt for the average guy and his safe, comfortable, mediocre existence. They weren't impressed by the material rewards of his safe life, either - his expensive cars and big houses.. Your quote from Jack London perfectly expresses their philosophy.

Thank you for this take, and your service. I haven't served, but I work as a Private Investigator, so the intensity is notched down quite a bit ha, but I imitate Ian Fleming's character by my dress and mannerisms. I've considered going into the field of private security or possibly enlisting in the Army. I can't imagine your and your colleagues capabilities, I'm just glad you're on our side!

Thank you for this. I'm still in my 30s but I see a lot of people here completely misinterpreting this quote. There's a reason why Jack London only lived until his 40s. Being fearless and reckless doesn't equate to being an actual man. Being responsible and protective, and courageous and assertive while also being respectful does. "I shall use my time" should instead be construed the opposite way: as a means to find actual purpose in your life and to create Legacy, instead of giving in to adventurous whims which ultimately may bring your doom. Living for the present alone shows a tremendous lack of foresight and self-investment.

@@danf4447 well Hemingway clearly did that out of insecurity and trauma. - He was severely crippled during the war. He got shrapnel on both legs and was hospitalized for days. - He was cheated on by an older girl he wanted to marry but who had already committed to another guy. - And he loved Africa because there he could be the only "white apex champion". It's easier to be king of the hill than the average Joe of the mountain He displayed hyper-machismo for self-preservation. To maintain an idea of himself that reality clearly robbed him of. This is a sign of immaturity.

Given so munch attention was to Jack London, shouldn't the title have been *"The Jack London life Philosophy showed me how to live life to the fullest?"* Or Ian Fleming the creator of James Bond? James bond isn't real. You have 1000's of years of recorded human history and you did a video on James Bond? You couldn't find an actual person either in the past or present to make your argument? WTF?
