Hm 🤔. Much as I’m sure he’d excel at such a role (as he does across the sphere of entertainment), I’m not sure that we need to give every funny guy his own talk show - if for no other reason than, it’s the host‘s role to focus the attention on their guests, and in the case of John Mulaney, I would want all the focus to be on him! IMO, you’re not going to find too many guests being funnier than J.M.

All jokes aside...Steely Dan is an incredible group of talented musicians and an iconic musical act and John’s love for them makes me very happy
As a Steely Dan fan since their first album dropped in late 1972, and who first saw them in concert in April 1974, this is priceless stuff. My wife and I spent most of the 1970s trying to convince anyone who would listen that Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were the best composing duo since Lennon and McCartney. John Mulaney does a stand up where he kinda addresses this...not Jimmy Fallon specifically..but he mentions how sometimesin conversations we just wait for our turn to speak...not really listening per se......ok so it’s not at all about talking over people..but it reminds me of all jimmys interviews...he just waiting to say whatever he thinks he needs to...he doesn’t consider how it affects the interview

inferiority complex. He always has to outshine the guest, or overly "support" them. It's so fucking pathetic

John is the consummate storyteller! It is so joyful to listen to him weave his tales, as if he has not practiced them at all- when you know he has.😉
john's impression of pete is spot on lmfao
Jimmy finds everything equally desk slapping HILARIOUS
I could watch and listen to John Mulaney talk for a lifetime. And oh man, I just discovered that I'm a fan of Steely Dan.

Not a steely dan fan, but can you imagine if Mulaney had a talk show? hed blow them all away.
Love it! Steely Dan is probably my fav band but I have only seen them 3 times! And we stood for a bit of it.
John looks so youthful. He also radiates clarity, humour and sanity. 🙂🙃
Love John Mulaney. I must if I sat through a Jimmy Fallon segment
Gil and George must have been so pissed someone made them stand
I love how endearing and charming JM has made Pete in his story. I want to hear more JM takes Pete somewhere adventures.
As someone who's young(ish), inexplicably loves Steely Dan, and has seen them at the Beacon multiple times where I've never stood up, this story is one of my favorites ever
Pete thinking Steely Dan was a comedian is not a knee slapper Fallon.

mikecantreed yeah, kinda like if someone thought Beethoven was just a dog. That wouldn’t be funny, just sad.
I love how John refers to his college roommate as his “old roommate (‘because I’m married now’)” and Jimmy who couldn’t be paying less attention somehow gets the impression that John is calling his wife his old roommate 🤦🏼♀️ Stop cackling and LISTEN

An idiots version of a joke, but yes, he is making a joke in his selfish drugged up way of doing one. True true.

Pete is honestly just someone that seems like a great friend to have. We could all use a Pete in our life
I love John Mulaney AND Steely Dan.
Mulaney and Kroll's gig at the film independent spirit awards should be enough proof that they would be excellent hosts for the Oscars.

The Independent Spirit Awards is also why The Academy will never let Mulaney and Kroll host. They'd be terrified that the two of them would call people out. I mean John's Woody Allen comments are more than enough to keep the producers of The Oscars up at night. They want their show to be boring and conservative and predictable.

ArtemisScribe fair point. Although Kimmel sort of attempted the same thing in his own feeble way. Mulaney and Kroll were simply more straightforward, sharper, smarter, and overall funnier. I agree the academy tries way too hard to be not offensive. Just look at how they handled Hart's case. Plus they care too much about their ratings. Sadly, Mulaney and Kroll might not be able to bring large audience like they are expected to.

@@luxusmode111 Yeah, I wonder if Kimmel's original joke had more bite to it and was watered down by the Academy or if it was always that wet. I suppose we also have to see what John's comedy style is like in 10-15 years. Is he still going to be very direct and cutting or is he going to have to water it down like Fallon and Kimmel (Who, by the way, I always forget are not the same person. Like literally every damn time)
I love how everyone in the comments is just shitting on jimmy lmao
I love every song by Steely Dan. And I’ve stood up while they played. 😂
Ok new game: Every time jimmy tries to talk over John Mulaney take a shot (And try not to die of alcohol poisoning)
Jimmy's that one friend who only listens to his friends stories to try to invite himself to any upcoming event they bring up
John always lights up my life
From what I can tell, John Mulaney has excellent music taste
He is such a great story teller..hope he returns soon..we miss him..we need him
I'd like to hear this story from John with Seth or Stephen.

Lolllll too true. It’s so sad because I used to love this show back in like 2015 but nowadays Jimmy physically irks me... his only job is to make people comfortable and let them talk and he can’t do either 😂
My theme song has been one of Steely Dan’s since I was 16 - 32 years now! Loved this!!!!!!! Mr. Mulaney is just plain a rad storyteller!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Musicians love Steely Dan. The greatest musicians idolize Steely Dan.
Why is that the first time for me to see this, with all the John Mulaney videos I watch on KZread!
me: *laughing because something is very funny* jimmy fallon: HAHAHAHAHA OH MY GOD HAHAHAHA me: this is not funny anymore.
