Hm 🤔. Much as I’m sure he’d excel at such a role (as he does across the sphere of entertainment), I’m not sure that we need to give every funny guy his own talk show - if for no other reason than, it’s the host‘s role to focus the attention on their guests, and in the case of John Mulaney, I would want all the focus to be on him! IMO, you’re not going to find too many guests being funnier than J.M.

As a Steely Dan fan since their first album dropped in late 1972, and who first saw them in concert in April 1974, this is priceless stuff. My wife and I spent most of the 1970s trying to convince anyone who would listen that Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were the best composing duo since Lennon and McCartney. Pete: “Wait, wtf is this?” John: “Shh, this is Landslide; it’s very famous.” Pete: “.....Okay.” Or they go see Barbara Streisand. Pete: “No, I’m serious-John, wtf is this?” John: “She’s a treasure, you’re gonna love her. Just wait until she sings ‘Papa’.” Pete: “John, I’m gonna f***in’ kill myself.”

The Independent Spirit Awards is also why The Academy will never let Mulaney and Kroll host. They'd be terrified that the two of them would call people out. I mean John's Woody Allen comments are more than enough to keep the producers of The Oscars up at night. They want their show to be boring and conservative and predictable.

ArtemisScribe fair point. Although Kimmel sort of attempted the same thing in his own feeble way. Mulaney and Kroll were simply more straightforward, sharper, smarter, and overall funnier. I agree the academy tries way too hard to be not offensive. Just look at how they handled Hart's case. Plus they care too much about their ratings. Sadly, Mulaney and Kroll might not be able to bring large audience like they are expected to.

I suppose we also have to see what John's comedy style is like in 10-15 years. Is he still going to be very direct and cutting or is he going to have to water it down like Fallon and Kimmel (Who, by the way, I always forget are not the same person.
