We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

Fantastic modular construction, Duca! But even more impressive is your care and concern for Roberta's health and well being. You two are adorable in your affection for each other and your mutual support. Small wonder all of your projects end up working out because, "you gotta do what you gotta do"! Thanks for a Sunday boost in my spirits!

Great video thank you! I would recommend painting the interior white it makes lighting so much better. It will take less lights and you will have much less dramatic shadows to contend with. My motto when building something is to always have more light when you're building than you'll have after its installed in place. No bad surprises that way.

Hey Duca! About twenty five years ago my wife bought a used refrigerated box for her flower business. It was 8 foot deep by 6 foot wide by 7 foot high! The only issue was the ceiling in our basement was only 6 1/2 foot high! I was digging for a week! Cemented the floor then installed the box. It had a system of hooks imbedded in the panels that latched over pins that imbedded in slots in each panel top and bottom! Simple! An Allen key fit into each hook through the wall and locked the panels together, so simple and easy to disassemble and move when needed!

This is really taking shape now. Duca, I didn't know you were into The Beatles. I also grew up with them. I used to go to a jam night in a pub with a mate (I'll call him Gordon) and we did "Come Together" and "I Saw Her Standing There". If you ever visit the UK, you should visit Liverpool where they came from. On my last visit to Liverpool, I visited a few landmarks including the Strawberry Fields gates. Just remember that we drive on the other side of the road.

Duca and Roberta: thank you both so much for this marvelous episode, as a DIY team, both are perfect. The ingenuity and skill Duca instructs us with is the best on any other sailing Utube channels. We use shims here when building a wooden structure for leveling. Plastic shims are on sale at the local Hardware store. I used cedar shingles back when, but using an Indonesian carving tool was marvelous. We think Roberta and Duca should start their own music group while in France. In 3 years you could surpass the Beatle's as a following, no question. You gotta do, what you gotta do! France has cloned a shitless chicken, you could gift the owners of your free rent lodging, then their children could play roundball without a mess. Best on this huge project and make sure you use the Sika. Thank you so much for the opportunity of joining BLINKIST, we are members of a local Book Club, they'll really be interested with your generosity.

You can see the Beatles Museum, The Cavern Club where they played, you can visit Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. You can even visit John Lennon House and Paul McCartney’s house where they grew up. You would love it.

Im sure someone has probably mentioned it, but with fiber insulations like that and rockwool, use a breadknife. The fibers dull razorblades so fast that its not worth trying to use an edge like that, but the serations of a breadknife work beautifully and its length allows you to work on its full thickness easily.

Duca, all these years I've been watching you do tricky stuff only to learn you are human and make errors from time to time. You may lose time off your schedule, but you gain the opportunity to improvise a solution. It is okay to consider the solution to be a change order in your build. Yeah, it happens all the time. And using the blades too chisel out the wood was fun for you. So far, it has been fun to watch you, Roberta, the chickens and goats. The paint roller in the ice bucket, and how you showed us, was LOL. I wanna see what you do for the roof! :¬) Webhead USA

Hi Duca & Roberta. Your ventilation would have been better installed at the bottom of the walls. VOC's are heavier than air and therefore they will concentrate at floor level.

  • @webheadusa9377
    @webheadusa93774 ай бұрын

Duca, you can use flat brackets (maybe three or four inches in length) to attach one module to another that would add additional stability. The flat brackets would be installed horizontally, perhaps two brackets- a foot or two from the top and a foot or two from the bottom - or just one midway up from the bottom. The angle brackets is what I. have used to stabilize some freestanding shelf cabinets. Works great.EDIT: But when you build the roof, and attach it to the side modules, there will be no movement issues. The roof would act as gusset plates. :¬) Webhead USA

13 days to build the shop so far. Seems like 4 weeks which is 28 days. Got a gap, thats what Sikkaflex is for. I think your not telling us everything, time to cough it up you two.

I thought you were building the van where you were building the boat. What happened with that

We were... but the boatyard has been really busy building boats and we don't want to bother them taking some space there and also we are 5 minutes driving from the boatyard, so we can go there anytime we want. On the yard of the house we are is easier to work everyday as we can go home anytime and store things inside the house.

Why did'nt yo buy an appropiate size garden shed, so simple they come in all sizes a nice 20 x 12 would have been ideal, made out of steel no worries.

The truck to deliver it would have no access to the space on the garden and also it wouldn’t be insulated

I don't understand why anyone would move to a country with cold winters on purpose 😀 Europe is nice during the summer but the winter is terrible. Even the south of Spain is too cold. Life is way too complicated when it's cold

I’m not sure why your spending all this time (in the cold) building this shed when. You could have just spent the time and money on just building the inside of the van…
