This whole scene. Explaining who John Wick is while John Wick is....reawakening himself. So damn awesome

One of the best movie scenes of all time. One of a kind and never to be duplicated.

Well… at least the father tried to extended an olive branch to John before the mayhem started.

*Russian Mafia Boss Dad is SERIOUSLY pissed when his hot car mechanic/V.I.N. number forger/re-spray man informs him that his ex-international hitman, aka the Baba Yaga, was beaten up with an aluminum baseball bat by his arrogant son, who coincidentally killed his new puppy dog, stole his vintage car, and trashed his dead wife's car by putting the baseball bat through the windshield.* *All because his son wanted the ex-hitman's vintage Mustang and didn't like being told that the car was not for sale.* *The situation being made exponentially worse by the fact that the puppy dog was a gift from the Baba Yaga's wife who recently died a terrible death from cancer and had the puppy delivered post-death so that her husband could have something to love while he was grieving for his wife, quite possibly the only person in his entire life that he has ever loved.* *So DAD gut punches his stupid, privileged son twice while explaining to him the complete disaster that he has visited upon his powerful criminal organization; the son all the while believing that he's invincible because of his father's power, and not knowing that the Baba Yaga is an elemental force to be reckoned with.* *While the father, quickly losing his rage at his son's awakening the Baba Yaga from its long hibernation, knowing full well that without an incredibly fortunate stroke of unbelievably good luck from God Almighty himself, his son is "A Dead Man Walking" with a limited amount of time left to live.* *All while the Dad realizes that he himself and his criminal organization are partially responsible for the Baba Yaga's lethality, and are contributing factors for how easily the Baba Yaga will kill his son.* *John Wick is the quintessential Greek Tragedy, especially this foundational scene, which is a Master Class performance by all three actors, as well as the unseen Baba Yaga. I just the visual symbolism of this entire scene, the words of Viggo juxtaposed on the action of John. After John tore up the foundation his home to dig up his past life, Viggo talks about the bodies he buried, which includes Johns former life, laid the foundation of what they are. Its beautiful and poetic. Iosef's selfish actions have awoken a hungry lion, and we all know when the lion is hungry, the lion eats, and his eyes are set on Iosef.

I always chuckled at how the bosses’ right hand man started to enjoy the scene after being told to stay lol. He just kicked back with his cigarette and watched the drama. 😂😂😂

At the beginning of the scene, the right hand man is calm. He's leaning on the bar and his posture is relaxed. When his boss and his boss's son begin their confrontation, that calm demeanor vanishes. He's standing up straight, smoking a cigarette, mopping at his forehead and fidgeting his hands. He's agitated because he knows that something is up and he doesn't know what to do about it. He's hardly enjoying himself.

Vigos just as guilty. John told him to give him his son or die screaming along side him. His beef was with his son and not vigo. All bets were off and what little compassion and courtesy for Vigo went out the door the moment he told his men to kill him. So now the biggest Russian mob in the area is now gone. Bc two idiots couldn't follow instructions from one of the greatest assassins in the world

I like how Wick doesn't immediately hang up on Viggo, even though it would have sent the same message. He wanted to hear what he had to say, and it's not until Viggo gets defensive that John puts down the phone, and fates are sealed.

If he'd have said "I'm so sorry this happened, I'll deliver my imbecile son to you myself in 3 hours" he'd probably have saved a lot of grief ... not that any parent is going to do that.

Vigo would clearly had survived (and his whole organisation) if he just called John and said "My son fucked up, here is his address, his life is yours for what he did" but that would not have made the masterpiece that this movie is.

It tells you how badly he realizes he screwed up when he said that "oh" after being told who John Wick is.

Or for starters, apologize at all, he only offers condolences for John's wife. John was waiting on the phone, listening, because some part of him too didn't want this to escalate either, but then Viggo condescends not to resort to "baser instincts," as if this were some trivial matter, when the son has so egregiously wronged John, so he hangs up. I totally believe if Viggo had found the right words, to humble himself before John, then this could have ended semi-peacefully.

John will come for you. And you will do nothing, but you CAN do nothing. So get the FUCK out of my sight. - I've been going to the movies at least once a week for about 35 years and this is STILL one of the coolest and hardest lines I've ever heard.

It's so funny to find this because I saw John Wick in theathers before it blew up somehow and the this build up right here, of who John Wick actually was, is easily the best part of the movie. Especially the part before where the car guy was like, "Where'd you get this car?" lol

The one thing I don't get is how the kid didn't know who john was? Everyone and there family knows who john is and was but him sounds like someone set the kid up to get john back in.

The dude tells his son he's not angry for what he did, stealing a car and killing someone's pet. And then puts him down he doesnt have focus, commitment, and sheer will. Classic affluent dad and affluent son convo.

I like to think that a real mob boss would break his kid in right so this doesnt happen.

When I first watched this scene I was excited that mayhem has entered the chat. Having watched it a few times and now again I noticed something. After trying to leave the scene repeatedly and being asked/ordered to stay I paused around 1 30 mark. my man knew that all the anger was directed at the son. I am gonna look him in the eye and ash my cigarette on the floor.

The father making the son take the shot of vodka before he punches him in the stomach making him throw up & just making getting punched that much more unconformable, i appreciate the extra layer of evil from the mob boss.
