"That Guy" BULLIES The DM's Husband... and thinks it's fine - RPG Horror Stories

Ойындар

This random DnD group thing might actually work out. I haven't been a player in years so it'll be an interesting change of pace. Anyway, you guys (overwhelmingly) voted for a video on The Adventure Zone: Graduation, so I'm getting to work on that! See you next time.
RPG Horror Stories is a series where I read through stories from Reddit and my own email while giving advice on how to avoid the issues that lead to such stories in the first place.

    Look, I'm all for a good roasting and a gentle ribbing. But there's a point where it stops being a joke and just straight-up bullying, and frankly, OP in story 1 actually comes off as a jealous bitch.

  • @Nikodraws149
    @Nikodraws14910 ай бұрын

    In that first story it's wild for OP to assume that two people in an active relationship that did eventually result in marriage had never *seen* eachother. Like they didn't have any private interactions or chats or video calls outside of the friend group activities. Just because *you* haven't seen his face doesn't mean his boyfriend hadn't??? Cameras exist.

    We recently kicked a dude from our table for being a dick in and out of game. He made me and my husband both uncomfortable and couldn’t respect boundaries without bitching. After the kick, he basically went off on my husband and said he wasn’t good enough for me and needless to say the way he was acting towards my spouse is enough to never let him back at my table again. The person in story one should learn that being mean to the DM’s spouse will never end well for you.

    In the opener, the fact that the dude used the term “snotling” to refer to the goblin makes me think that it was a Warhammer 40k reference, and that the poster was RPing an inquisitor. So… probably ironic. Still, though, you can never be sure.

They too just sorta...Went eh. I really think it was for the best that they left when they did.

    It stinks of favouritism for the DM (and by extension the party) to have OP's characters just leave and show up with no fanfare or even reaction to them taking part, while the other player's PCs get a heartfelt farewell and a heroic introduction with the rest of the party, but maybe that's just me. Unless Player 2 was actively working with the DM on how they wanted their first character to say goodbye and OP was just not bothered about everything, (which I'd understand, you get out what you put in) it's no wonder they lost any motivation to keep playing when nobody was giving them anything to work with besides "Oh, and you're there for some reason."

    "Walter" is a textbook Murderhobo, and literally none of his actions would be acknowledged as "Good Aligned" at my table. Theyre chaotic evil..and i know some people would try to argue Chaotic Neutral because its " selfish" but no..not all selfish actions are automatically neutral. If you're deliberately hurting someone in the process who isnt a villain and hasnt done anything to you, your act is both selfish AND harmful, and thereore evil. Either way, in no world is it good-aligned

    On an online written RP site, a friend and I (we play similar kinds of characters) were accused of being the same person to the point where this guy was repeatedly reporting both of our accounts to mods. Why? Because we "booth said no to his RP request." A MxM, explicit, no holds barred, no fade to black, smut "romance" RP where in his request he made it very clear that we should be so lucky that "I chose you" to message about a game. We did not feel lucky.

    The dumbest part is the wizard didn't even need to metagame to "catch the killer". At level 19 (which I think he was), he could have just used one of the many mind reading, or scrying, or even talk with dead spells to just get the answer without cheating or being a psycho.

  • @Sanodi21

    @Sanodi21

    11 ай бұрын

    @@dubiousinformation1756 I think it was the Wizard that was killed? It was weirdly worded but it was him taking it out of game and even metagaming that really makes this a giant mess. Because, if what the other commenter said about someone else making the call to get the character killed? They could've simply said 'Hey, someone else did this, I don't consent to this' and it would've been wrapped up then and there with mod help. The only explanation stupid enough to fit is that the player has some uber jank hero complex and with his character killed by OP's, he now has a reason to chase after the character. Instead of, again, talking with OP about it.

    Nothing to say on the intro. First story after that, wow. I don't think there was even a "joke" to be found. That was just venting jealousy or something. Second story, totally agree. Shame on mods for not stepping in. Not just at the end, when someone was threatening to DOX a pair of players, but even before that when this player made it clear they were going to constantly make the game hostile. All because they wanted to use meta knowledge to justify spoiling a major part of the campaign that was planned and cut it off before it could start. Third story, OOF. I know how that feel. Just started a starfinder campaign and seems like we're two of a kind. First and second player in a (at the time) three person PBP campaign get nice long intros and I get "you also wake up, are you going to find the others?" Like... I guess. We also, each have a little familiar-like robot that woke us up and I was told ahead of time mine would be "bubbly and cheerful" to make them stand out. So I was asked if I could make my character to contrast that somehow. Turns out, after we talked out this dynamic, the DM randomly gave away my dude's personality to that of another player's lil guy. Mine now just says 1-word sentences like "Indeed." and "Yes." This contrasts with my character who... is also the quiet type. Nice. Good planning, DM. 👍

    Story two: Discord is actually a really good dating platform, at least if you go into servers that are for special interests that msot people don't care about. I'm in a conlang community and I know like 5 couples that met through that community (including me and my boyfriend, used to live in different countries, met over discord, now we are living together) and it honestly makes sense. If you are super passionate about something weird, like in my case a specific conlang, then you will automatically connect better with people who share that obscure interest. So yeah, 10/10 for discord of a dating platform would recommend

    A lot of medical professionals have stopped diagnosing as Aspergers and just diagnosed it as being ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder, which it is) the term changed in 2011 or 2013. The correct term is being Autistic, some Autistic people prefer person first language ("person with autism" for example) but most tend to prefer "Autistic person" as Autism isn't a disease and affects who we are, but it's always best to ask the individual their preferences.

    Asperger, as in the guy it is named for, was a nazi and researched in concentration camps, so laymen want to move away from it. On top of that, clinically, research has advanced to determine that the mechanism is more clearly defined as being a degree of autism, and so new diagnoses of what would previously have been termed Asperger’s are now termed Autism [some number] (i forgot what). Most people who aren’t jerks allow for those who found identity under the label of Asperger’s to continue using it without personal criticism, especially as that is probably what it still says in their diagnosis and many communities gathered under that label. But moving forward, the term is being moved away from.

    I think about the time the DSM 5 came out. They grouped it in on the autism spectrum. However, despite the reasons for the change it was difficult for a lot of the folks who'd grown up with the old title/identity. Even harder for people who have internalized ablism, on top of a general dislike of change.

Also, "Asperger's syndrome" has not fallen out of use. I know because I also have it, and no other term explains what I have without grouping me together with people with Down syndrome.
