Badd Medicine here and its The Boys reaction time
The first season of the American superhero television series The Boys, the first series in the franchise based on the comic book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, was developed for television by American writer and television producer Eric Kripke. The season was produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Point Grey Pictures, Original Film, Kripke Enterprises, Kickstart Entertainment and KFL Nightsky Productions.
The first season of the series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Elisabeth Shue. The story takes place in a universe where most of the superpowered individuals are recognized as superheroes, but in reality abuse their powers for personal gain, information the public is kept unaware of. The series follows the eponymous Boys (led by Billy Butcher), a group of vigilantes looking to bring down Vought International and expose its corrupt superheroes. When his girlfriend is accidentally killed by A-Train, Hughie Campbell joins the Boys to get revenge against the Seven. Meanwhile, Annie January is forced to face the truth about those she admires, after she joins the Seven, led by Homelander. The Boys attempt to stop Vought from receiving government support for superheroes by uncovering the company's secrets. When Hughie and Annie begin a romantic relationship, the conflict is muddled despite the two of them initially being unaware of each other's affiliations.

I think the significance of the baby poster is that it represents Hughie’s inner conflict at the moment: on the one hand, he doesn’t wanna feel (and be treated) like a baby, on the other hand the slogan says “keep your hands clean” to represent his conscience and his hesitation to commit intentional violence. But then the baby covered in red spaghetti sauce also reminds him of being covered in Robin’s blood (and foreshadows what’s about to happen again once he makes his choice).

To me, Homelander never taking off the suit means, unlike how the other supes seem to play some role for the company, Homelander IS Homelander. There is no point where his supe identity ends and a “normal” person begins. There’s a lack of humanity there. It makes him feel more like a “god” amongst men (and even amongst other, lesser gods), which is what Stillwell wants. But because she’s convinced him that he is a god, the most powerful of all, he looks down on the world and believes than not only to the “rules” not apply to him, he makes his own rules. It’s very much like the mythological gods fighting with each other, wreaking havoc on humanity and Zeus being the biggest troublemaker of all lol

The poster is about Hughie’s innocence and decision to go down the rabbit hole into his new life. The series starts with him as a radio shack employee living in his childhood superhero bedroom. Not only does the button in his hands mark the end of that innocence it literally makes his decision to get his hands (and face) dirty. Ch ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb. He’s all in.

The Boys was a comic series but the show is more inspired by rather than drawing from the comics. There are some moments that were in the comics but may have been changed a bit (Starlight was ...ummm... auditioning with 3 people, not just The Deep) but the show is ultimately just using a lot of the same characters and going with a whole different story. Hughie in the comics was based on Simon Pegg's image, which is why he's Hughie's dad in the show ha.

It's the spaghetti sauce and Robin's blood. When you've got a character that is having conflict of morality, it's important to remember their primary motivation. Everything else we know about him and his dad tell us that he would normally never entertain the thought of homicide or revenge. He's a character with pure motivations that has been thrust into a moral conundrum. What's the one thing that would push him over? Robin. Every decision he makes, at least at first, is because of Robin. Subsequently, the most simple explanation is that the baby reminds him of himself covered in Robin's blood. That's why as he stands there covered in Translucent's blood, he looks at the poster as if to say, "Here we are again.".

This show is based on a comic by Garth Ennis. He notoriously hates superheroes and made the comic to point out how stupid it would be if they existed. Objectively, the comic is terrible. This show is one of the few cases where I’d say the adaptation is better. The Showrunner and Writers took the basic concept and modified it into a mature story that actually works. A fun bit of trivia is that the comic version of Hughie is based on Simon Pegg, with the intention of him being the live action version. However, because of the years of development, he’s no longer young enough to play Hughie, but got casted as his dad to keep the comic reference.

From my understanding, Vought contracts many of their “supes” out to different areas around the country- state senators work with them to find the right supe to fit their image and appeal to their voters. Then there’s the 7, the sort of Justice League/Avengers focusing on the big bad guys and being the face of the company. Between their contracts, leased events, advertising and merchandise, they rack up quite a bit of $$$.

Kripke (the one who created the comics [and also The Walking Dead comics]) said in a tweet: "I'm here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more!" So, season 5 seems to be confirmed, even though only backhandedly ^^

Assuming by now someone has corrected you, it was based on a comic which was inspired because someone hated all of the tropes in superhero stuff. Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead was the inspiration for the Huey character. Therefore whenever they finally got around to making the TV show the cast Simon Pegg as the father even though he looks pretty much the exact same age she did back then because he looked old young... Then they hire someone who also looks like he could be 35 or 38 years old at the same time like I thought that was a full grown man like struggling to pay rent with all of his roommates type thing

I'm sure others have confirmed that The Boys was, in fact, a comic book series. The whole theme is that if there were real super heroes on Earth, they would be jerks (to put it mildly). Who would keep them in check? Who would keep them from exploiting others? How do you develop morals and values when you have always been special and don't have to face your own mortality? It is really quite an interesting concept.

Hope this help: The Boys is base of its comic. But the story and some heroes are modified for modern age. The Deep in the comics is the token black dude to shut up the rasist comment to Vaugh and the Seven. And the deep isn't even aquatic hero. He can fly and more like Wonder Woman (strength and flight) and can't even swim. In Translucent case, he didn't exist in the comic. Instead there's a Martian-man hunter version instead and yes he is an alien. The series don't include aliens like the comics did. Thats why they get rid of Translucent in 2 episode. There's no storyline for him. And in episode 1 they say Starlight replaced Lamplighter. He is actually in the comics and is like the Green Lantern of the Seven but instead of Lantern, he uses torch.

Tbh I think it was simpler than that with the baby poster. Literally seconds in Translucent's dialogue he says they'll be blown wide open, and then pan to a baby poster covered in red stuff.

How was translucent planning on walking back considering that if he were to try and fish it out it would set it off so you would think the amount of walking or probably several blocks and expect to not boom...

If you guys are thinking about watching and reacting to superhero tv shows, I highly highly recommend Daredevil. I think it is the best superhero TV show ever. Each season is better than the previous one.

Hughie is based off of Simon Pegg in the comics, so it's cool they casted him as Hughie's dad

Yes, The Boys was a comic and I have read a little bit of it, it's maybe even crazier than the show xD BUT the show deviates a lot from the comic and something that happens in the first few chapters in the comic, doesn't happen until season 3 ... and even then, it's a completely different scenario ... And one major side character in the comics, only shows up as a random "background" character for a few seconds and even his powers got changed ... poor comrade ... Oh and very important. Hughie in the comics was inspired by Simon Pegg and looks a lot like him. A reason he plays the father of Hughie in the show ^^

The messy baby sign with "keep your hands clean" represented his internal conflict about choosing how far to go with this crusade. He's fighting corruption, but he's with a group calling for him to corrupt himself in the process. He's questioning whether the ends justify the means. The situation is at a point of no return in terms of his own safety, he will be found. So does he give up here, sacrifice his life but keep his integrity? Or does he lower himself to their level of killing? It's a point of no return. The sign also foreshadows that he's about to get covered in blood. It's a reminder for workers to wash their hands, and the baby is covered in red spaghetti sauce. Then it's splattered with Translucent's blood, just like him.

Love the title having a double meaning. Both the the cherry bomb related to blowing up translucent and literally creating what looks like a giant cherry bomb, but also the fact Hughie just metaphorically 'popped his cherry' in regards to killing his first Supe.

The Boys is *loosely based* on a comic of the same name - emphasis on loosely. This is one of those ultra-rare scenarios where the source material's not all that great, and the adaptation turns out to change a whole lot of stuff to make it infinitely better, though.

Yes it’s a comic and comic is much more graphic.. It was originally that They were apart of the dc team and it was a side project, hence why they are similar to the justice league (superman, aquaman etc) and over time I think it was that dc went a seperate way and the company that made the boys were allowed to keep it as their own thing. So it’s not a rip off it’s more a alternate story with a bit more realism
