Dude! Congratulations for 2nd place!! After that first game I knew one thing: I would kinda feel sorry for whoever gets silver here because both of you totally deserve the title! After one more game I actually wanted *you* to win because of the superior stacking you were consistently showing. Also the way you got out of bad situations in "kill"screen was just mind blowing and super entertaining to watch. Must have been exhausting! Congrats again and thanks for the show :)

You were mostly better in terms of scoring efficiently. The only tiny difference probably is in terms of stamina I guess. Still, well done to both of you for having finally broken the dominance of the brothers at CTWC.

The classic Tetris scene must be the most wholesome environment ever. The fact that the losing player still looked so happy in the scenario of having lost speaks wonders about how great a vibe the place has.

I remember back then the death screen seeming impossibly fast, and now when it transitions from one game to the next, they’ve been playing so long on the kill screen, everything else seems slow.

It's gonna be the next Jonas vs Joseph that randomly gets recommended in people's KZread feed months or years after.

It's so hard to achieve 2 million points for both players in a single match (which is the new WR in CWTC history) by using this technique. Congrats Eric and Fractal, the new champion and new runner-up respectively! That's so amazing! We will miss you so much, the legendary Tetris player, Jonas.

2 million points is literally 2 maxouts back to back. Funny how just a few years ago even a single maxout during comp was considered a monumental achievement.

I remember when just a few years ago, Joseph reaching level 30 was something of awe, and now we have people playing to the 70s.

Big shoutout to cheez too, for adapting and perfecting a technique that revolutionized classic tetris and allowed to reach new horizons in the game

a few years ago i could have not imagine it is possible for human players to get this scores and go so far after the level 29. Human creativity and drive is amazing.

Fractal was better pre 29, but Eric's performance at "Death" screen was absolutely insane.

Tbh, several players seem better than Eric pre-29, what really mattered in the past: efficiency etc.. But now that post-29 is everything, it seems being more efficient doesn't change a thing.

@@xenotypos I think it still matters because having a higher score at Lv. 29 gives a cushion of sorts for when you top out that your opponent has to chase down. I feel like it would be much more mentally taxing to know you have to chase down a score rather than it's your opponent that has to chase you down.

Amazing championship. Wherever he is, Jonas is smiling. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

The TETRIS community is so damn wholesome it can make anyone cry honestly. Ive never seen such a united community.

No video can recreate the experience of being a part of that crowd, definitely the best experience in gaming I have been a part of, the energy was so high with all the chanting, cheering, and most of all the Buco’s.

If this match proves anything, it's that after all the questioning, we now know that EricICX isn't an NPC after all.

Man, when I started watch Tetris stuff back in 2018, the landscape was different, and to see how the high level playing evolved in a short span of time is amazing. But two things didn't change from 2018 to 2022: 1) The community is absolutely AMAZING, wherever you are on the planet, if you reach to join the community, you will be received with open arms. 2) Tetris is F U N.

So amazing to see everyone's camraderie, community, and love for one another. Congratulations to Eric! So glad to see him conquer the mental game and go the distance. Fractal looked like he was having so much fun every match and the humility in his parting words speak for themselves.

A consistent lesson out of every clip I’ve seen of the finals is, I am/was so fucking loud LMAO I’m almost sorry but it just shows how grateful I was to be there and how amazing the experience was to be right there and play in the CTWC. A true dream come true, I love you Tetris community

I've watched 6-7 years of CTWC. This one made me yell wow more than any other year prior. That chase down was insane. From Jonas, Koryan, Joseph, Huff, Dog, Cheese unorthodox rolling grip and now to these rollers. What an evolution in the last few years. Amazing game guys. GGs Eric and Fractal and all who participated

Dude this crazyyyyy. I remembering watching Jonas and it was exciting to see them max out score. These guys can triple their scores and outlast the damn game.

I have nothing to do with tetris whatsoever but I find myself coming back watching this event year after year. The energy and sheer positivity is just something really really special and seeing how these young players innovate the game and have a great time is simply beautiful to watch! Can't wait for next years competition!

yea kinda insane. For me it started when I got randomly recommended the tetris for Jeff video. And then watched Jonas v Joseph. Then Joseph vs the smiling guy from Japan. And now I just casually watch this every year even though I never played tetris 😂

Playing this game in 80's...and seeing this young generation playing at higher levels give me smiles and joy's..thanks for this clip's 😘

Eric using DAS for the extra endurance at the cost of pre-29 points is an interesting strategy that worked like a charm! Looks like hybrid is going to be the optimal strategy going forward!

Yeah, I would totally love to see it going over to Europe or somewhere else and see how different the competition would be and who would show.

Man. I remember when it was a big deal to be able to just clear a few lines of level 29. The insane talent this community has spawned and continues to grow is beyond comprehension. I can’t imagine the stuff we’ll be seeing in the future. 🎉

This is just incredible! This must be the biggest leap ever between CTWC Tournaments. The perseverance after kill screen becoming more and more decisive might encourage players to change their strategies over the years concentrating more and more in the endgame. What a time to be alive!

Its rarein sports to see two competitors so evenly matched. Amazing spectacle to behold. Jonas would be so proud of the magnitude of progression in such a short time. Good job boys.

When the second position is a jaw dropping performance, 10 out of 10 out of space... Man, what a final match up is was ! I'm following the CTWC since the Boom Tetris for Jeff! era. Never thought the evolution of that esport would be that spectacular!

Wow what an event. I deliberately avoided all comment sections for fear of spoilers, but I watched all of the footage. What an insane gameplay by everyone. Really incredible. Congrats to everyone, of course mostly to Fractal and the new champ Eric! So entertaining to watch!

The longer the event the longer it is for the community to bond and have fun and enjoy it. I'd definitely vote for longer breaks between games to let the players rest more both physically and mentally. Guys, I definitely want you to know that you're much bigger than you think! Every year since Jonas vs Joseph we watch your championship in Russian translation (it's a bit funny commenting but we are serious as hell knowing all about hypertapping, rolling and maxing out!!) but with millions of views! This is amazing to watch. The top 2 keep pushing the bar higher and higher each year. KZread's algorithm first recommended a CTWC video to me in 2016, I watched it and was hooked. Who can forget the Boom Tetris for Jeff era, Jonas racking up championship after championship, and then Joseph coming on scene with two titles of his own and ushering in a wave of new talent. This tournament is awesome to watch every year and I hope to attend and meet some of the competitors in person in 2023.

I'm actually watching this video for research on a video about competitive video games. In the last couple hours I've watched Smash tournaments, Pokemon tournaments, DOTA and COD tournaments. By far this tournament has the best energy I've seen. The crowd getting pumped, the players and commentators joking and laughing. It's such a positive and fun energy that makes this really fun to watch.

I love the spirit of Jonas still with us. Extremely high level play from both players.

Loved this year’s tournament every year I get my mind blown from the skill level being blown up, it’s really a double edged sword to see the ctwc continue to boom in popularity / get the recognition it deserves…. But if I’m being honest I miss seeing quaid and harry and buco and Jeff and especially Jonas (RIP), all the players that I watched year after year for so long are just a CTWC memory. I’m glad they live on as legends

Started watching when Jonas played Jeff. Loved watching Joseph dethrone Jonas. Sad day in the gaming world when Jonas passed away, but looking at the evolution this is crazy. Moved to Oregon right before pandemic so missed a tournament live, but love the wholesomeness of the CTWC community. Props to yall

INSANE! What a final!

I think next year CTWC might as well make 2 or 3 divisions for Rollers, Hypertappers and DAS in order to preserve the "Classic" Tetris. So that players who enjoys playing it without having to practice a specific technique but being a good construction worker. And also, If there is no change in the game, every championships will become endurance battle. That is just pure headache for players.

I have to admit, this is some of the most amazing Tetris I have ever seen. I am absolutely blown away by the skills the newest generation have, and there can only be greater things to come. Great job everyone who took part, can't wait for next year!

Unbelievable... is what I would say if I hadn't watched all the CTMs in the last couple of years. Honetly though, the level these guys have achieved in this game is beyond unbelievable! Can't wait to see what comes next. Eric was like a machine, reminded me of Stackrabbit, just wouldn't top out no matter what sequence of pieces, what misdrops... just a machine. How anyone can maintain that level of play both physically and mentally for so long is beyond me! Exceptional tournament!

Once Saelee came into the picture and won two years in a row, the huge growth after he won, etc. But I feel for Koryan, he probably had his best chance of winning when Joseph took his first win, when he got Runner up. I don't think he'll ever get top 10 again. along with some others.

Apparently you can't be great at Tetris if you hold the controller in the normal way. 😂 I used to hold the N64 controllere in a weird way when playing games.
