They actually have a new version then that. We were issued a newer one for our bunker gear and the head is on a pivot and it’s much more durable
I’m a firefighter and I carry one of these on my gear for quite a while now. I use the black plug in mine to focus the beam to cut through smoke. These things are tough they are water proof and I’ve burned all the paint on the letters and they still go strong. Best light I’ve ever used recommend them 100% Also the reason the battery is in a pack is they sell a rechargeable battery for it
“They” say that when U.L. tested ball bearings, they put a Firefighter in a concrete room and gave him 2 ball bearings. When the U.L. scientists came back to check on the bearings, they opened the door- the Firefighter broke one and lost the other.

He tested the beam, he compared it to a regulat flashlight, and he compared all the inserts. That was a test... are you not tired of watching people shine flashlights at trees as if the camera sees exactly what your eye does? It will light up a tree in the dark... we all know this. It's easier and better to compare in a consistent lighting brighter area.

Quite so.
Although I can appreciate the simplicity of having a single switch, I wish there were a way to get to the low power settings without cycling through the blinding light. This goes for nearly every light on the market today, and not just this one.
Had a co-worker that used to say, “ Nothing outperforms a rental car.” Ha!
We've used these flashlights at my fire department for years originally the incandescent bulb version and for about probably 10 years now the led version. They are pretty rugged and they provide a decent spot beam. The only flaw is the plastic bezel ring around the lens that crack from time to time and exposing the o-ring. Other than that, they live on our truck mounted chargers ready for work whenever we need them.

These are great lights. Cody, you should include some night testing or torture testing in your review. May also want to talk about the product ratings (IPX, NFPA, etc.), especially with these lights, it's what makes them so popular among emergency and utilities personnel.
I'm no expert, but it seems that if you're in a situation where body armor is a reasonable thing to put on, then putting a big bright target on your chest in the form of a spotlight is probably a bad idea.

@@byteblock1667 The military don't do it. They use night vision or thermals. Or they just go blind. Slapping a giant light onto yourself in the middle of the dark is a beacon for people to start shooting at you.
I've been using the rechargeable streamlite knucklehead. Similar form factor to the survivor but the light head swivels left/right up//down. Same base and battery configuration as well. The rechargeable has the same AA carrier as the survivor. It also has a very strong magnet for stationary work. Great video!

Thank you for supporting us Andrew,
I've been watching for a long time. I must say you're getting quite good in front of the camera. Very straight foward and to the point. Well prepared. Nice work.
Just a quick comment from a law enforcement and security instructor. If you are sufficiently concerned about the possibility of a violent threat that you put on body armor prior to investigating something at night,, it is not a good idea to put a great big brightly lit target on your chest. If the bad guy shoots, he will shoot at the light. You would be better off investigating with a handgun along with a handheld light. I suggest that you use the FBI method (hold the light to your side and high) while searching. You can transition easily to the Harries, neck index, or other method of light usage once you have identified a threat. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT use a weapon mounted light for searching. The same issue results. The light will be positioned directly in front of you. As I mentioned above, if the bad guys shoots at you, he will probably shoot at the light. I've served many felony warrants in my time. I NEVER searched with a light in front of me.
Awesome homestead security/perimeter light, thanks. Blessings to you and yours.
Always good videos. Thanks for your time and money you spend on these videos. I am always amazed how my favorite channels just keep up the good work. I can never imagine how much extra time it takes to do anything when making videos.
The only thing missing (IMHO) is a small but relatively powerful EDC pocket flashlight. There are some decent examples that run on one AA battery, so they would fit in with your single power source philosophy.

John Gilson I totally agree. I have the coyote and the black model. They are small, clip to your hat and usb rechargeable. Love them. FYI to anyone thinking about buying one. They have two light level modes. The coyote has bright as the main mode and the black has the dim for the main mode.
They have ones with knuckle heads that are really good. Also the batterys are in that pack because there is a rechargeable battery pack which is nice.
I use the amber insert in my light. Smoke cutter lenses it makes a world of difference in a smoke filled environment
I found these couple of years ago, and yes hard to hurt this light. I also went AA power source. The older units have a longer reflector more like a standard flashlight - mag light etc. The standard reflector has bit more beam distance and it widens more at a distance. The newer more compact reflector is hands down far more durable. The older style reflector is compatible, molding and threads are the same it screws right on if that matters. At $50 a light it's a good deal for what you get. Mag lite is pretty tough, but these are much more so at around the same money.
Thanks, Cody, I've really been enjoying this series of videos. Having high quality, reasonably priced, tools on hand ready at all times is a smart way to go. As someone who loves your videos more than probably anyone one else on youtube and someone who watches way more than I should, I am obsessed with preparedness, knowing what you have and having quick access and all that, just a small suggestion for these videos, which are 10/10 keep up the good work, would be to either put a keyword in the title for videos like this or even make a separate playlist so they're all in one place or a quick search will bring them all up. Like I said I love the channel overall I watch at least three of your videos a day and plan to watch all 2300 over time. Much love from South Carolina brotha!!
Thanks for the suggestions on all of the lights, I picked up the first Streamlight Dualie for my wife, and I liked it so much, I'm getting another for myself. Speaking of lighting, what's up with the green backlighting in the recent videos? Reminds me of someone working behind a welding screen. I'm really looking forward to this series, because these are common sense items that many people wouldn't consider until it's too late. If anything, the Boy Scouts taught me to "Be Prepared." I’m liking these preparedness videos. Seems to be well timed as I’m gonna start getting prepared here in the Uk. There’s not as much scope for going off grid and there’s practically no self defence option, my parents generation allowed themselves to be neutered but I think doing as much as I can would be the best insurance policy I can have, and when you even it out over the years, it’s actually quite a cheap insurance
Great lights Cody have used them over the years in the Fire Service, ours are the rechargeable models... You may also recommend to have a box of the Chemical Light Sticks also, they are very handy and require no batteries...God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK}

I LOVE streamlight. The only time I’ve ever broken one was when I was at the top of the 100’ ladder and dropped it.
love the videos, although I regret watching this one because now I have the urge to buy another flashlight. Keep up the great content!
i was surprised that the black/amber plugged lights were brighter, I was under the impression that this is designed to reduce the too high part of the beam to only allow the evened out peripheral beam to shine so as not to cause reflection back in heavy smoke/fog conditions (hope this makes sense), perhaps the plugs also reduce standing wave cancellation/attenuation? (like wave ripples colliding)
I want to say the Gen 1s had a on/off switch and not a button. I love mine; got it gosh...17 years ago for a Department Christas party gift. Still lights up many years and fires later.
Streamlights for the win.. I use a micro stream for my edc for ease. And use the 4AA led at work in a plant.
The batteries come in the clam shell because they are built to use all the power sources for it. We have them at my fire department and are kept in truck chargers. The flashing light was added for firefights to signal in distress to get more attention.
Streamlight makes a good product, my preference is the sidewinders. Lots on the surplus market for half the price and half the size. Red led perfect for astronomy. Btw your tip on flares made a purchase.
Great video. Really love the practical Prepper stuff

Question I know that using lights especially LED lights in smoke conditions the lights act as a mirror… i know the old school yellow lights reflect less and cut through the smoke more. If I was going for an old school yellow bulb would the survivor light with the amber drop in attachment be my best option or no?
I used those lights when I worked in a yard. If you aren’t careful you can blind truck drivers over at over 300 yards. You can also buy rechargeable packs just for those lights and a dock for them also.
We use the Gen 2’s in New York, they’re absolute tanks. They take a beating and keep on ticking. Plus, the battery life is pretty damn good, for firefighting applications at least.
Usually one of the flashing modes is an SOS morse code, so when using it, you should make sure it is really an emergency.

i like your choice and tend to agree with your pick i also keep all my emergency or prep tools and products to run on double A batteries that way i always know if i have a fresh supply of just that size i will have lights, radio, and a few other important things working in my home or possession most importantly in a lengthy power outage i also keep a candle survival lamp i use backpacking and that will allow me to cook or boil small quantities of water for purifying of course according to Google the best fuel for long term storage are diesel and propane ? i still treat my Deisel fuel anyway with a antigen and water removal conditioner as that’s what i use inmy Deisel truck a buddy of mine that works for one of the larger long distance freight companies saw the one i use and told me that’s what they use in their fleet semi trucks so i keep with it it’s sold in Walmart that makes it handy and easy to find and they generally have it in gallon containers too i’m not saying it’s the best but i know it works for me as my truck has always started no matter what the weather and when i do drain my separator i’ve never seen sludge or water as i always pour it into a clean clear glass jar, date it and store it on a shelf for a long time allowing everything to settle then i inspect it with a bright light and my nose not very scientific i guess but i was told the labs were pretty costly as i have a buddy that owns a big paving company and they send samples out on many of the machinery they own they of course use off-road or dyed fuel to save on taxes and i know he also uses that in his motor yacht which is legal to do he doesn’t take any chances on putting it in his trucks as inspectors very often stop by and do dip tests on those ! i’ve helped him inmy marina fuel up his boat with 55 gallon drums i used to get for him and used for myself for extended trips offshore in another fishing boat ! yep 110 miles off shore in the Atlantic Ocean there aren’t any gas stations so we needed to bring our own to get back to the dock after fishing for Tuna which incidentally is a 30 plus hour trip and often yields over a thousand pounds of fish for 6 guys yeah we eat sleep and live for fishing a couple of times a year it’s tiring but worth it IMO
The reason I didn't buy is because of a response from someone on this light. "It’s pretty resistant to water but if it’s submerged for longer than a brief moment, you can expect some damage."
Hello i have a quation about the firewood. When you put firewood in your home over the night or the day... Are You not afraid of spiders or bugs or anything dengerous else?
Have you tried the stream light strion? It’s an incredible light. Comes with a piggyback charger you can mount inside a vehicle. Snaps in an out of the charger. One of the best lights I’ve ever used. Right next to my stream light stylus penlight. . It’s always right at my fingertips in my truck.
I agree, AA batteries is the best for this time period. AA batteries can be found anywhere.
The amber plug for the survivor light is to help the blue colored light to be warmer to puch through smoke easier and cause less glare
So what is better for cutting the smoke, the black or the amber one?
I totally agree AA flashlights are a better prep than not so reliable (long term) Lithium-Ion batteries. Did you consider the Nitecore EA45S (1000 lumen runs on 4 x AA) or the Nitecore EA81 (2100 lumen runs on 8 x AA).

COol brother. We had the 1/0 in the fire house. I was like you and did not care for the halogen light bulbs. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
I'm going to look into getting that light.ive had a few bumps in the night here lately and my current light doesn't just simply go to high beam it goes thru all the modes. Which is aggravating somewhat.its pretty darn bright but not exactly hurt your eyes bright. We have a black bear that lives down in the ravine in a cave. But the bumps in the night are usually raccoons getting into the barrels and making a mess. Weve had someone try to break in twice when I was out of town. Which is another reason I sold my semi so I can be home full time. I wasnt a big fan of locks till I came across the loc 19x no fiddly safety's I've run several hundred thru it without cleaning and it just simply works. My flavorite sig concarry p238 which is highly comfortable just isn't something I want to be reaching for and possibly have to use. Right out of a deep sleep. Not to mention its lack of power the pt24/7pro in 40 is powerful enough but still fiddly thumb flipper that can easily be brushed onto safety. Which could cause a hiccup. And is pretty reliable. But is missing tritium. Unlike the kimber cdp2 it's all fancy. And fiddly lots of power but lacking in penetration and lacking in number of squeezes before refill. So I think I finally found the perfect one. Although just like any other tool it has a farely specific intention and being wearable isn't exactly comfortable and prints pretty bad. So its more of a cold weather garment. I know cig got the contract but it's got the fiddly thing. And sometimes you just want a tool to simply simply simply! Work.

Well as for a bump in the night weapon I would sugest a long gun or some sort a pistol caliber carbine (I use a PCC as my wife is comfortable with the PCC over a shotty or long gun)is a great option and a long gun is better for getting up out of a deep sleep but I always recommend keep a good light with it so if you have in issue where your weapon/light isnt appropriate say you find out the bump was a kid throwing eggs after you I'd that a weapon light iant appropriate but a light is still needed

I really like those streamlights for firefighting. However I purchased a pelican lil Ed for my bunker gear with the recoil led.(backwards facing) And it functions well in a fire, which is what I got it for. It would be nice with the streamlight to have a longer range for things out side the fire, but until the pelican breaks no reason to change what works. The stream lights are nice tho with the wide flat body so they stay pointed a certain way but I can maneuver my pelican wherever in my gear
Those lantern style lights are the best for hands-free lighting. The canisters the AA are loaded into are an adapter as the lights are designed to house C batteries. Same brightness (voltage) but much longer run time. But if a guy was real clever, he would use the adapter and carry an extra one that is preloaded so that the light could be reloaded blind in the dark. The batteries would already be in the correct orientation. Like a mag for your guns

I’m a fan of Mag-Lite flashlights, but have been frustrated with how quickly D-cell batteries go dead just sitting in the car unused. They seem to handle Texas summers okay, but as soon as we get a random cold snap, they go completely dead. On the other hand, I’ve had a mini AA-powered Mag-Lite sitting in my glove box for years that still had some juice in it after going through extreme heat and cold winters. AA batteries seem to handle temperature extremes better than D-cells do.

Hey Cody ,I have picked up a few of these new gen Survivors and absolutely love them for most every application, I have been running Energizer Lithiums in them ,the specs do not call for this but I do prefer the lightweight cells and not having to worry as much about leaving them stored, I work in EMS SAR and have not ran this tool as long as you have. The survivor light is indeed the best light for the money. The removable battery case is so you can use the rechargeable Li battery and charger (either plug in or vehicle mounted). Speaking from my experience in (10 years military, and LE) having a light (any light) strapped to your chest, acts as a target (you can look this up for your self). If I’m an armed adversary the first thing I’m going to do is aim at that light. If possible keep the light in the non firing hand out to the side
