Testing Cheap Amazon Survival Gill Net (Usually ILLEGAL!) | Rare Underwater Footage

Ойын-сауық

I test out the cheapest fishing survival gill net on Amazon in a private stocked pond. Originally, we tried to fish out all our trout, but this got to be quite the job since the fish shied away from worms, and lures (preferring pellet feed). As the season wore on, we decided to try to bowfish, spearfish and now, since it iced over, gill net the pond in effort to harvest all our stocked fish.
I will show you rare underwater video from a go pro of a fish actually being caught in the gill net. I will teach you exactly how to hang and use a gill net to catch fish and the size of the mesh you should use. Should you ever find yourself in a survival situation, a gill net is a huge asset. All our fish are provided by Lyndon Trout Hatcheries: lyndonfishhatcheries.com/
The aerator used in this video provided by The Dug Out Dude: www.thedugoutdude.ca/
This gill net is super illegal in most areas, so please be careful using them. Even better, let me test out the gill net! If the nets are legal in your area, you might want to have one nearby in case you are in a survival situation. My Gear (Shop and Support): www.fowlersmakeryandmischief....
I will use an ice auger to drill a channel right through the middle of the pond. Next, we put the gill net underwater. One end of the gill net has floats, the other sinkers, so the idea is to float the gill net in the water column and the fish will try to swim by and get caught in the net and twist all around getting more and more caught up.

    Gill netting is usually illegal but from my understanding is that tribal commercial fisherman (either for sale for seasonal income, or stocking up traditional food for tribal feeding such as community feast or funeral and ceremony foods) are the only ones that can legally use gill next at our major river (Columbia River) and the same goes for night set hoop nets and dip net a traditional fishing sites. They are all written into our treaties and rights. Back when the Salmon were running in the hundreds of millions just in our main river.

    I don't think the landowners have a clue as to what is really awesome and takes a lot of time and energy to create. Usually, the masters and lords of us all don't have a clue because everything has been handed to them for free or very little work. If that were me or 90% of your viewing populace, we would have been so damn grateful and even would ask you both if you would like to join us for a fantastic fish dinner with the fixings.

    The old school way to net as many as possible was to take walnuts when still in the husk and put them in the water. The jugalone in these inhibit the fishes' gill respiration and thus they can be netted more easily. Benjamin Franklin found out this old Native American trick. He would make a concoction of the fluid, put it in a hollow tube, which he then put in say a pond, and people though he was a wizard.

  • @somedude6452

    @somedude6452

    If you put in say cream corn or peas, then for some reason fish go crazy for it. That may stimulate more for netting as well. At the end of winter, large fish are extremely hungry and more likely to strike say as winter warms up. Somepeopke put them in a sock so the food particles rate of diffusion is slower.
