Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Welcome back everyone, it’s Randy! In today’s footage we have a significant milestone confirmed in that rear castings are now being produced by the GigaPress machines on site! We also have other new updates to cover happening all around the site and possibly some new developments in the Bobcat Project area as well, so let’s jump right into it.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The GigaPress area shows the two new foundation areas having the bulk of the internal reinforcement rebar installed and I could be wrong on this, but I don’t recall seeing the wood framing we see in this image used in any of the previous machine foundations we saw constructed. I was able to find this image as a good reference and when these were constructed, most or all of the wood was used along the outside edges as shown. It wasn’t until much later after the steel base pieces we see being installed were having a wall built around them did we see more wood than what is shown here be used around each foundation, so the question becomes why are these being built in a different manner? I’d love to hear your comments on this below! We next see a major milestone that confirms that both front and rear castings are now being produced here as we can see the rear castings on both ends of the center row. They are the ones consisting of the large open space in the center of them.
- The BIW east side now shows the digging out of the ground taking place in the section north of the one we saw previously completed that contained the loading bays.
- The south end of the southern gap shows the drilled shaft work within the pit looks to be completed and now both rigs are busy doing this same work on both sides of the higher ground outside of the pit. On the opposite end, we can actually see inlets at the ground-level above the large buried system of drainage pipes we’ve been seeing installed here for the past several weeks. We also see work continuing with the installation of new footings and now we can see several have the vertical column forms being installed. At the south opening of this gap, we see the updates to the drainage system that will connect to the ones beneath the inlets we previously saw and we can now see a bend that will better direct water to the detention pond south of the factory.
- The southwest corner now shows 2 trenches dug across where we’re seeing the future path of the perimeter road and conduit being laid within each one.
- The GA west side wall panel installation has covered 2 more large sections and here we can see just how close they are getting to the south end before making the angled turn!
- The space frames being assembled northeast of the worker lot look to have 2 of 3 completed and we’ll most likely see these installed in the northern gap later this week.
- A new development in the far north part of the Bobcat Project area shows a large section of the ground has had a base layer of aggregate mix applied so it looks like we’ll be seeing some new activity here so we’ll be sure to keep a close eye on it from now on.

Thanks Randy. 1:00. Casting. New gigapress footing. The timbers are there to correctly locate the machine hold down bolts. You can see a bunch of orange caps on the bolts each side of the timber placed east west. The timbers north south are to hold the east west sticks in place. These N/S timbers are screwed to star pickets driven into the ground. Good shot here in Jeff’s Day 382 of the same setup on another footing; kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoZm1q2Gcsa1hpc.html 1:40. South alleyway. Short section of pipe. Those are the first of the bore holes for the next row of footings. This row will be located along the same line as the 8’ drain pipe was, which is why the drain has been removed. You can the pipes that were removed at 10:02 under the east side of the GA building.

Something I forgot to mention in my last reply... The problem of the backup at the intersection of highway 973 can be greatly reduced by widening Harold Green road all the way to 973 and having double left turn lanes. Also, if the 973 access road on the Southside is extended to serve the parking lots... That will also help relieve congestion.

There used to be a temporary transformer on a pad there, just outside the green sheathing. Visible a few months ago. They tore into the sheathing to remove the electrical lines. The transformer is now gone, too, but I think the cement pad it sat on might still be there. The horizontal gash might be related to that. RE- Giga casting machines, two questions: Are the two foundations currently under construction intended for machines 4 & 5? I ask, because I have a memory that the foundation for casting machine #4 may have been completed several weeks ago [edit: counting the vertical columns in the view at 4:33 indicates plenty of space for foundation #4 from weeks ago. 2nd Edit: view at 5.35 confirms the *plausibility* of this theory.) and therefore these current foundations under construction in prep for concrete pouring are for machines #s 5 & 6....or am I dreaming this? Second those rear castings with the large spaces.....they look suspiciously like they're designed for a structural battery pack to be installed....only way I can see the system providing enough vehicle rigidity. This seems plausible because the present 2170 cells are only 10 mm shorter than the final 4680 cells will be, so I presume it's a relatively straight-forward design adaptation to grow the structural pack 10 mm when the 4680 cells are finally pressed into service....unless we're at the moment as we speak (is it possible?) Other thoughts?

Why does everyone call the machine that creates the large single castings a "press"? It is not a press. Presses, take sheet metal and form in under pressure, by pressing it. There are something like 50 different pumps that are injecting aluminum into the mold. The pressures on each have to be adjusted just so. In the meantime, lots of scrap is produced.

@ 5:24 I will never buy a car containing castings until they have a proven safety record and a proven reparability record. Right now, the only thing known is that they save the manufacturer money.

Actually, you rant against Tesla and Musk pretty consistently and you are only here to see the building construction (as you frequently say). So it's irrelevant whether the car uses castings or not, you won't be buying a Tesla. Isn't that right? It doesn't matter whether you buy one or not, many others will.

I think the safety testing has shown they are perfectly safe. As for reparability you may have a point, but are you that bad of a driver you are constantly damaging the framework of your car? I have driven over 40 years and never damaged my car that the base framework needed a repair. YMMV (or in your case: Your Wrecks May Vary)

David, you choice of "cars not containing castings" is going to get limited pretty fast as this looks to be like the new wave of bigger parts. kzread.info/dash/bejne/omSfqLxyc7myfso.html Here, Sandy is showing the huge aluminum MachE rear casting as it compares to the Tesla rear steel frame assembly. So, I guess this means Ford's are no longer in you buying path.

@@Russ1956 I just hope these castings don't spread like a virus to other manufactures. At least not until they are proven to be safe and repairable.

@@PhrugalPhan I would prefer real world safety data. On reparability you miss the point. When you spend $50,000 on a product, it should be repairable. Or at the very least, not less repairable than existing cars.
