Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey guys, it’s Randy! Today’s footage shows the updates over the weekend and a look at the site over a quiet Labor Day holiday. This one should be a pretty quick one as there wasn’t much activity but as always, thanks for watching and enjoy the footage.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The north end shows a new secondary curved road has been added next to the existing one. I’m not sure if this will actually replace the current one or what, so leave a comment below if you’ve seen something like this before or are familiar with what we’re seeing here.
- The GigaPress area shows the two new foundation areas have rebar installed and look close to ready to have concrete poured. The roof shows that concrete has been poured in the last section we saw prepped with the WWM and we can also see that the structural steel filling the gap is progressing closer to the northern edge.
- The east parking lot is sparsely populated as there is a very small presence on the site today due to it being a holiday.
- The BIW east side shows the digging out of the ground directly in front of the loading bays looks to have been completed.
- The south end of the southern gap shows the concrete and drilled shaft work has almost reached the far south end of the pit. On the opposite end, footings are being poured, formed, and dug out. Here we see a close-up of the footings and the vertical rebar extending from the poured concrete.
- The southern end shows paving work has started on the road that will wrap around the factory on this end of the property.
- The GA west side shows more aggregate mix and prep for the road along this side. The wall panel installation work is still moving very rapidly as it works to the south. Moving north, we see that the first of the new larger glass panes have also been installed and just north of this, we can see that now loading bays in this area have had dock levelers installed.
- The BCP building also shows dock levelers installed in the loading bays that previously did not have them, as shown here. We also see that window installation, most notably on the bottom row which previously had no windows, has started and both rows are now actively being installed at this time.
- Lastly, we see the progress of the space frames being installed in the northern gap shows three more sections have been installed since Thursday and they are almost to the north end.

A general description of what's happening on site at the start of the video makes it more informative and meaningful. Thanks.

0:29 The first one is rather tight, so it might be that they are widening it in order to make it possible for trucks to use it.

Still more people working on the site than at Giga Berlin on any given Sunday.

I watched that large glass panel being lifted into position with that special suction cup crane attachment and thought, “Wow! That glass looks to be at least three inches thick”. Nobody’s going to be throwing steel balls through THAT”

@ 5:27 My guess is that some semis may have had problems making the turn. Whether this is a permanent change, I don't know. It does seem like a rather "quick fix".

There will be so much empty space in the factory for years to come, that Tesla will be able to develop and track-test the CyberTruck without ever leaving the TeraFactory. I doubt we'll get to see much in the way of production prototypes, apart from leaks, before Tesla is ready to start filling reservations.

Great job and thanks. At about 15:48, a few days ago, you had observed that they seemed to be taking great care smoothing out the sloped sides. Good catch! Perhaps there will be concrete wings on the sides too.

3:54 2 (or 3?) installed with foundation work for 2 more. 2 6 kton presses should keep Model Y supplied through first half of its ramp, so I think they install the first 8 kton press soon, and start using it for CyberTruck development. I bet that's the plan in general: while prioritizing the Model Y ramp and its production kinks, apply spare resources to CT development.

I can't imagine what the plan is for the south gap. The foundations are deeper and spaced differently from the rest of the site, leaving a north-south gap between the two dense rows. Some kind of gantry setup for manipulating rolled steel, or float glass?

Randy, as always I appreciate the video updates you provide to us! I'm curious about one thing with your flying route... In the first half after you fly from the East side to the middle section, you seem to always turn South first, and even fly a little bit South showing that part of the footings before turning North and showing the that Northern part and then turning around again to show the rest of the progress on the footings being dug there. So... why the turn to the South (left) first? Why not initially turn North (right), check out that section and then turn around and show the South stuff after that?

I thought I read somewhere that they were expecting to have 1200 to 1500 semi trucks a day delivering supplies/parts, just doesn’t look like there’s very many dock doors for that volume of truck traffic but hey, what do I know

  • @patrickkenny2077

Rough order of magnitude, I would expect more like 100. That should be enough for up to 2,000 cars per day. Apparently, it takes about 40 minutes to turn a dock, or 11-12 trucks per dock per shift, so 10-12 docks for parts and raw materials would be a minimum. I expect you need to double that as you factor in things like less than truckload deliveries, trash, trucks not immediately unloaded, etc.

@ 10:12 We know that at least of theses drains is temporary. The inlet side is right in the middle of the road! The other drain, which is for the westside of the building, they cut and diverted. But... Continued work and extended it's outlet to the river! So I stand by my original guess, at least for now, that the pond will be filled in.

I was surprised when they only installed one of those large glass panels a few days ago, and that they didn't start from the end. I'm waiting to see the new carpark filled with factory workers as they get started with production, they set up the new access road under the freeway, did all the line markings etc, then ..... nothing .... so far

The smalelr glass to the left intrudes into the big space. They're going to have to remove it and cut it down, or install a shim or something. At 11:22

I must wonder if the finished slabs are cracking and columns settling with all that clay. Hope the equipment has leveling legs to acct for this.

  • @DavidJohnson-tv2nn

If that were happening already on their billion dollar building, I would say they are screwed. Such uneven settling would put stress on the joints between the columns and the beams. Proper design and engineering would ensure that there is no excessive settling.

RaveCave Alley is coming together! LOL! It's likely not really a RaveCave, but honestly, would you put it past Elon if he required one LOL. That Alley has to be for some large Steel Forming machines (Stretching, Pulling, or Bending). I think this alley (Stainless Steel Forming), Battery Production (4680's), and the GigaPress section (Still looking for that 8,000 ton press to be delivered, likely going in one of the two, or both spots that they are preparing foundations for) are the areas to watch to gauges the time to start CT Production. Be patient my friends... Much Love!
