I think the right, cautious way to start a Robotaxi service in a city is to utilize FSD Supervised, I.e., a kind of Uber service with a driver. Or rather, a supervisor. The data from a period with this would ensure that it worked, or supply trading data to make it work,... in that city. That's also why I think a cooperation with Uber would be a good thing for Tesla. And Uber certainly need it to convert themselves into a Robotaxi company. The Uber drivers would eventually lose their driving job, but their cars would still have a job, giving them some income.

As Tesla continues to multiply its compute, it will be able to spare it for cyber truck as well as Tesla semi (if they also have the hardware for FSD). The smaller number of Cyber Trucks means much fewer miles to train FSD for cyber truck, which I believe, places the cameras differently because of the different dimensions of the truck. Baidu and other Robotaxi operators in China all use the Nvidia ref hardware for self driving. The base code is effectively US made. China just change the language and speech modules. This tech is about 3 years behind Waymo. Tesla FSD has the cheapest onboard hardware, and is the cheapest fleet cost by significant margins. Hence that makes sense. In terms of tech, FSD is really king.

it is an apple and an orange! Hertz, Baidu , and I think even legacy automakers / BYD . Hyundai and brand in different areas will use their own fleet of robotaxi using FSD to diversify in order to gain some revenues back on the losses of producing EV. I think a lot of businesses will use FSD to compete against each other . Different companies will offer different incentives in order to win clients ( subscribers) .. it’s all in into robotaxi and it starts in China. What if even food chains would use it in order to win customer . I mean you buy subscription at a big food store brand and each time you buy there for a certain amount . Their own branded robotaxi will take them home with their groceries! Old people will have a lot more mobility and be taken there and home as a service. Even hotel chains will jump in as long as customer come to their hotel and stay couple of days

Tesla is too far ahead and competition will not be able to catch up. Tesla's advantage is that they will own the whole ecosystem, they will have the best FSD and the cheapest car. Waymo's FSD is better right now but they are not improving at the pace Tesla's FSD is. Their cars cost 7-10 times what the robotaxi will cost. Waymo can't scale up while Tesla can produce 1,000,000 extra cars a year and summon from the already existing 6 million Tesla's with the push of a button. Their prices are going to be lower than Uber and Lyft right out of the gate and they are still going to be profitable. China is the only suitable competitor and they will be locked out from the US market. Even in China Tesla is doing better than BYU when it comes to EVs.

No company owns an entire market for long. History shows this time and time again. The autonomous driving market as of now is not profitable. Additionally, It's not like they can suddently show up with a product that is competitive with FSD out of the blue, considering how far ahead FSD is with the data, so they definitely won't be able to do it "under the radar" either. But honestly you never know.. maybe i'm underestimating their capabilities for theft.

Isn’t Tesla risking Baidu trying to steal Tesla FSD technology? I get a bad vibe over this.

Wrong. No one has FSD so they are all far behind. They all need FSD to operate until they can create their own version which will take 5+ years minimum.

@@trent1615 I know a decent bit about it but I take much of what I hear with a grain of salt because it comes from the companies themselves. But what I will point to your attention is that Elon said 12.0 scrapped the old code and instituted a new 'end to end' system - and this occurred less than a year ago. There is no way Tesla can be particularly far ahead of anyone if that's the case.

Herbert, you need to think of the noun "news" like the noun "water". Just as you would say "I drink a glass of water" rather than "I drink a water" , you need to say "This is an important news story" rather than "This is an important news."
