I am wonderin how successful/profitable Robotaxi is going to be. At least in America. Americans have a relationship with cars that is different from the rest of the world. EV’s are going to keep growing, but it won’t be the willing, forward looking, well heeled buyers that has driven Tesla’s growth so far. Tesla is going to have to work harder from now on to gain market share from ICE. Price is keeping a large segment of people on the economic spectrum away. Skepticism about EV’s in general is keeping others away…but it is going to be VERY difficult to convince people to give up control of their very expensive cars. Yes, there will be some, but will it be enough to make Robotaxi a success? I just don’t know…the freedom that cars represent to Americans won’t be handed over to a computer, no matter how good it gets…

Doubt current camera positions are much of a problem for Tesla Vision. The robotaxi geometry will prioritize super easy entry/exit and a large cargo area. The camera positions simply follow from that. A future where urban roads are dominated by robotaxi service is an exciting one. At the expected price point, it could completely replace all public and private transit in these congested areas, save taxpayers money, and significantly increase safety.

U.S. automakers, with the exception of Tesla, don't make cars anymore. It has nothing to do with interior design. Ford and GM are losing $20-30k per EV. They aren't going to make them as long as they are clueless about how to make them profitably. Even the Chinese haven't figured that out, except for BYD, which only makes about $1k per car.

I did not like FSD at night or high traffic in the South Bay Area between San Jose South and Palo Alto. FSD became confused and indecisive during high traffic and medium to low traffic. FSD was surprised by fast cars driving buy and could not anticipate rear approaching vehicles and almost assumed rear traffic would obey listed speed limit rather than actual. I would definitely need another subscription after Tesla applies all the massive data it received from the free subscription period. Even then how would we ever know what it has learned and how it deals with roadwork signs etc.

Another great video Ryan. Not sure if you saw the article yesterday about how the supercharging team layoffs went down, but essentially, Elon didn’t get exactly what he wanted layoffs and plan wise from the VP of the group in her presentation to him on Wednesday evening, lost his temper, and fired the entire team. As much of a genius as he is, he’s also sometimes just like a petulant kid. He can walk these things back now to some extent, but plenty of damage has been done because he couldn’t keep his temper in check, and plenty of very smart people were laid off completely unnecessarily and had to go through that trauma.

That's kinda the thing i think more people need to realize. Elon isn't even really a genius. He's a guy with cool ideas who also has the social and business clout to convince/make other people finance and produce his ideas into becoming reality, just like Steve Jobs was. Nothing wrong with that, but i think people give him way too much "omg he's a genius of our time" credit that he doesn't truly deserve. And also just like Steve Jobs, the social prickliness required to be able to get people to work over time to make your futuristic ideas reality is a double edged sword that also results in tantrums and blow ups and toxic work environments and intelligent hard working people losing their jobs at the drop of a hat if they say anything other than "Yes i will make that happen" like you said. The real geniuses have always been the engineers and problem solvers. The smartest thing Elon does is know which ones of them to hire (which he then negates when he fires them for not stroking his ego, as evidenced by literally everything that's happened over at Twitter since he bought it).

Tesla, GM and Ford compete with BYD and Xiaomi in the EU, China and Australia and latin america without Tariffs so they shouldn't need them in the US to survive. They are a low cost option among many options for different sectors of the market. Having this option will help with the transition to EVs. Agree with all of that. I have lived in China 7 years. The problem with China is a cultural and legislative requirement that all large companies allow a CCP member to sit on their board. And he can pull the rug out of things if the company doesn’t operate the way the party wants. That’s a CONTROL MECHANISM, and you, I, we, all of us don’t need instruments of the Chinese Communist Party insinuating itself into our community as this isn’t just hypothetical, this actual happens. (Jack Ma lost control of a few of his most successful companies, HuaWei CEO was forced to step down,…) The CCP plays the long game. Look at what happened to Hong Kong. They accommodated a two system country until they decided it was time to harvest the population of Hong Kong and shutdown wealthy people and extract wealth. Think of them like an oil company. They let you have nice things for decades until it’s time to use their control to harvest you. They do this to their own people and they do this to others.

Their system of government keeps becoming authoritarian.

Not a finance guy but could Ford losing more money per vehicle on their EV line be a good thing? Doesn't that mean that they have invested more into the tooling and manufacturing of EVs? And those costs of that are associated with EVs so at a per vehicle level, it seems to lose more money but in the long term, having that investment will be good?

  • @VMYeahVN

    @VMYeahVN

    14 күн бұрын

Nope. It's still a bad thing, selling their cars at a loss doesn't mean they invested more into tooling and manufacturing. It means they aren't selling enough EVs for "economy of scale" (the more you sell, the cheaper it is to produce) yet and it means the ones they are selling aren't made efficiently enough from a production process perspective. Part of the reason they aren't selling enough EVs is due to half hearted commitment, macroeconomics issues like people not being able to afford the mid and high end EVs, and the fact that they still have to keep their ICE car business going (an inherent struggle all legacy auto faces during this transition to EVs). Selling their cars at a loss now doesn't really do anything for the long term. They are doing some things that will be good investment for their EVs in the long term like setting up a few EV production lines and working on newer battery tech in labs and what not, but selling their current EVs at a major loss isn't one of them. A good sign of investment would be seeing how much money they lose per vehicle becomes less and less (which is what Rivian is doing), instead Ford's losses are GROWING.

Second hand sales of EV's in the UK went up 73% in comparison to last year. People want EV's in the UK - but they can't afford the £700-850 per month/ to get one. And you can add another 100 to the cost per month for insurance. Working class folks cant afford that on a car. But they can afford £300-£470 per month on a 2-4 year old Model 3. I saw a 2020 Model 3 standard with less than 45k miles sell for £19.5k. Now that's starting to get very affordable and for the money an amazing super hi tech car.

BYD in Mexico is selling more and more EV's everyday. They have the most affordable EV in Mexico, and models like BYD Seal already made Tesla drops prices of Model Y and 3 to be able to compete. They dropped Model 3 about $4000 usd. LR was about $55,000 usd and now it's around $51000 usd. Also previously Model Y was notoriously more expensive than Model 3, but now they bout are around same price (Like $1000-$2000usd difference). I wouldn't buy a BYD for now, as the only infrastructure for Fast Charging in Mexico is Tesla's SC, which means other EVs like BYD are not really a good option for longer trips, but I definitely love the competition, as it makes EV's more affordable to users. P.S: Mexico has an incentive of not charging importation fees for EVs, that's why they are kinda cheap, but that benefit it's supposed to finish later this year, so let's see how much the EV prices go up and ow would that harm the market.

Very, very, very different technologies. IF Tesla can get their version running as well as Waymo's Geo Fenced much more expensive to deploy per vehicle option, it changes the game immensely. However, as of RIGHT NOW, Waymo is truly autonomous where it is designed to be. If FSD gets that good, the idea is to have everyone using it, not just for the robotaxi service, but if you were a Tesla owner, you could be in the Robotaxi business just like getting into the Uber business, just send your car out to work while you are at work, or after you get home, or whatever, on its own. There are infinite possibilities IF FSD does what Waymo does but does it for 100 times more usability than Waymo outside of the robotaxi model, and for a lot less cost per car, like several times less

Robotaxis are all for China. I'm worried that the model 2 is dead 😢. Some other company may have to be the driver for low cost EVs

Yea, the company recently got shut down. The robotaxis were called Cruise if you want to look them up. Safety concern I believe.

News about Ford is so enraging - if the idiots would stop making a billion different options forcing so much money into R&D and engineering for production, MAYBE they could turn bloody profit. Simplify the product pipeline, Ford! But nah, traditional manufacturers gonna traditionally manufacture.

Tesla needs a new CEO who is only responsible for Tesla. Elon Musk should just be the president of the board.

Model 3s and Ys are cheap as ever I bet they don't release the model 2 because of the ridiculous competition coming from China right now. It would be a race to the bottom

Tesla 2 is vaporware and they should really make one ASAP... The current models are showing their age. The design is getting old even if the technology has improved. The first introduction of the S model was done in 2009 and it hit the market in 2012. They all look alike, and the X, which was some sort of hybrid between an SUV and a saloon, looks nowhere near as an SUV as the X5, X6, or Audi Q5 or Q6. Tesla Truck looks rediculous and available only in North America as no one else would buy one, they should invest into a global car. They look outdated, and the whole portfolio needs a refresh if you want to make the sales numbers rise again. A Model 3 from 2017 is almost the same as in 2024. I know they are developing and trying to keep the cost down, but they really need to redo the designs even if the technology remains the same.

Tesla's user base & fleet is simply too small to support robotaxi. Permission in China is great, but just a start, and not everything. Buyers & riders alike will want a fully functional affordable Cybertruck, Cybervan, and mini-Truck. Not just for style preference. Some families or groups might need a 9 or 12 passenger van. Or take a Cybertruck to the lumberyard. How will Tesla compete or get new customers without those? The future of commuting is a focus on micro-mobility, mass transit; carpooling. Sharing a robotaxi is the only option Tesla has on that list, and it's not popular. Slashing & burning to get to robotaxi next year is scary. Maybe those add-on cameras are a test for a kit to outfit other vehicles to license FSD. Seems like Elon is ready to outsource everything.
