As you point out, the truck has standard outlets for you to plug in your air compressor or even a cordless one which you almost certainly already own. Likely, he was thinking about the Rivian's built in air compressor and how "cool" that is. Personally, I've always considered the Rivian's flashlight in the door, portable speaker under the center console, and even the onboard compressor, gimmicks that sell the truck, and then quickly break or become outdated just to take up space. EVs and off-road are like peanut butter and jelly. Instant and linear torque, low center of gravity, silence, multi motors, no clutches and transmission shifting. Crawling on low speeds doesn’t consume a lot of energy. And downhill recuperation returns what you wasted when climbing. Then you can camp in your vehicle in “camp mode” keeping desired temperature like in capsule hotel, without running an engine.
@TheBowerbird
Ай бұрын
Smooth brains try to pretend that you'll run out of battery - but it's not the case! They are wildly efficient offroad because they do not idle and they have regen. ICE vehicles have to bring a bunch of fuel cans with them. None such issue with EVS. Also, I think the longest offroad stretch in the US is 74 miles - and it's not particularly technical. A Rivian did the Rubicon trail recently. EVs can go pretty much anywhere ICE can.

AMAZING! I can definitely see an aftermarket metal bumper appearing. The stock bumper is as it is because they care about aero (i.e range), but if you care more about off road performance and not as much about freeway, aftermarket is the way to go

The difference is the ones that off-road well feel like crap on the road. The Cybertruck on Sport mode feels like a large car, it still holds corners, and it accelerates like a sports car still. You don't feel bumps and there's no floaty feeling. It's super-quiet inside, the sound isolation is really impressive. I love this truck. I'm getting lower-clearance bumpers and off-road tires, quick-disconnect sway bars, and it will be a monster offroad too.

@@domg7359 Basically this, they've made something more road-oriented but that's also highly capable of off-road, which makes perfect sense. Lets be real, most people buying the Cybertruck, any Jeep, or Raptor, are just not going to go off road, they'll rub off a small splash of dirt they get from a puddle every now and then. :) I personally think they've done a really good job with that balance.

Nice report. I can see people modifying the CT with aftermarket bumpers, real off road wheels and tires ( so you can air down). And different rocker panels for sliders. It’s too bad Tesla didn’t make the wheel wells larger for bigger tires, but guys may be able to mod those also like I had done on my Tundra TRD. I am glad you liked the steering for off road it makes total sense. The steering wheel sizes is awesome. No need for a large wheel with steer by wire. It will be interesting when the rear wheel steering gets improved I.e. more degrees added with the planned update. I was happy to see you not baby the truck like many will do because it is a truck after all. A full size truck isn’t the greatest on steep approach angles but it looked like it did well. I forgot to add that soon I think you will see Baja style spare tire racks above the bed for a spare tire.
I love how positive reviews trigger the haters. LOL. As an owner since January I’ve been loving every minute of this Truck. And I use it like a truck.

I had no idea it had 17.4'' of clearance. To put that in perspective, a PowerWagon has 14.2'', a Raptor R has 13.1'', and a TRX has 12''. The legacy makers need air suspension ASAP.

Reason why TRX and Raptor has lower ground clearance has nothing to do with suspension. The differentials and other offroad hardware has to be lower down. Only way to get more ground clearance out of them is to go portal axles which are expensive as hell or ditch the ICE engine altogether.

Once the after market gears up it will eat this trail for breakfast and a lot worse. Tesla made a road truck and added off road a lot of those compromises were needed but hurt the off road and they are easy for the after market to make as it's stuff they already make for ice off roading body kits, lift kits etc
The amount of hate that this truck attracts on the internet is so bizarre. From comments in certain communities, you'd expect it to be worse at off-roading than a Miata, have less utility than a Mini Cooper, and worse reliability than a Lancia Beta. @@wingless747 You seem to misunderstand how business works. No business can anticipate a pandemic, global supply chain disruptions, or massive inflation. No business can honor estimated pricing after five years of such circumstances. You want something for LESS than the cost of production, and that isn't going to happen.
You guys need to do an experiment to determine just how much a tire contact patch increases when "Aired down" to lower pressures. I really think the contact patch gains is very very little with lower pressures...a myth-busting discovery is in order.
