Glass is different, but because of all of that and also the large wheels, I dunno why Tesla ever called this the electric car for all... The glass, big alloys and tires probably add like 5-10k to the price of the car during a lifetime.. I couldn't care for all the glass, just makes it echo-y..

  • @joshuarosen465

    @joshuarosen465

The range difference is just the wheels. The AWD and the Performance are the same car, the Performance has some additional software and bigger wheels. The software doesn't effect the range it's just the performance wheels and tires, they trade-off effeciency for better acceleration. You asked why can't you have both, you can. When you want range just put 18" wheels on the car.

"Why i can't have the perfomance car with the Long Range range ?" because if you add aero drag (spoiler) and bigger 20" open wheels with sticky UHPT (from closed aero 18" ) it's impossible to achieve the same range , it's like pretending a M4 GTS to have the same MPG of a 440i. -No,the total boot space is (front+ rear ) is 542litres even the Which , that is very very scrupolous measured it at 499l , in normal use the model 3 has more rear boot space than the Jaguar i-Pace (that is rated at 650litres but measured 370) . -There is no physical button outside to open the frunk for obvious safety reasons! and inside the car it takes just two quick presses of the screen ,as quick as any other means to open the bonnet in an ICE or, if you are an *Apple Guy* and you want to use what you are familiar with, you can just ask siri to open the bonnet. -It is annoying that you have to unlock your phone to open the car, but i bet it would be more annoying having the car stolen by a relay attack that, the model 3 ,is immune thanks to its system. -And again while the tablet it's not the most immediate and manually certain things like the wipers , changing the climate or radio station can be more challenging on the move, on the other hand you can do all this stuff without looking or touching the screen by simply using the voice commands, that on tesla works brilliantly. -Totally agree about the lack of steering wheel.

They still have a steering wheel but maybe not for much longer :O) - I agree no steering wheel heater is a strange omission. Especially as it is a good energy saver and reduces the need to have the blowers on in winter (like the heated seats do). The glass roof can actually support more than twice the weight of the car. There are videos on KZread that show accidents with overturned Model 3s and the roof did always hold. If there would have been one cave in you can be sure that it would have been reported in all major media. I 'd really like to know what engineering magic they cast there... You can open the frunk from the screen inside the car, but you have to be in P for that. The car not opening when the phone is in your back pocket has to do with the electromagntic frequency of Bluetooth being partially blocked by water. Humans are basically bags filled with 75% of water. So depending on how you stand in relation to the antenna in the car (which to my knowledge is somewhere in or near the driver side mirror) your body might block the Bluetooth signal enough so that it won't open. I remedied that by either taking my phone out while walking towards the car, because I want to connect it to the charging port in the car anyways, or I put it in a front pocket if possible (mostly if I only have a very short drive...). Yes it's a bit annoying but I got so accustomed to the remedies that I rarely think about it... I have mine 15 months now and it is by far the best and most fun car I've owned and surprisingly cheap in ownership cost.

Two wrong point in the list of 10 listed. Request the reviewer to know the feature a bit more properly before commenting on that. 1.Car has a auto lock and unlock feature. If you walk away it will lock itself and when you come back and open door it auto unlocks. No need to use the phone to lock or unlock, unless user wants a different behaviour. E.g. keep car unlocked even after phone has gone far away. 2. To open the front boot and rear boot there are buttons on screen . So pretty much how one opens a bonnet on ice car. No need to use mobile phone app for this as well. The button appears when car is in park. Other points are valid. There are some workarounds for some of those. E.g. you can pre heat the car and thus have steering wheel heated. Or you can direct the air flow to steering and that heats it up.

In order to flip this car, you would need to do something abnormally stupid or daring anyway. Due to the large battery pack, the center of gravity is much lower than in similarly sized ICE cars. Also the Model 3 has a 5-Star, 96% EU rating, so even in the unlikely event of a full rollover, the cabin remains intact.

The Tesla Model 3 outsold the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Toyota RAV4 in the first quarter of 2020 to make it the best selling car in California. One reason why is because it's a much better car. Another reason why is because it has 1/3 to 1/4 the operating costs due to being an EV. Drive one.

So this is my 1st opportunity to see one of your videos & I’m giving you 2 thumbs up because I absolutely loved your presentation & your accent helped a little too! LOL! I’ve had the opportunity to visit various places in England over my career & it’s always a bit uncomfortable seeing folks driving on the left side of the highway as opposed to how we drive in the states which is on the right side! I also love the great shots you got & the fact that you decided to film it in a beautiful picturesque countryside added a nice touch that’s missing in some of the other videos I’ve watched covering Tesla’s cars! So I will let your critics tell you what you got wrong & there were a few things! I purchased my Tesla model 3 back in 2018 & I can tell you I absolutely love the car! I came from a Subaru legacy with all the bells & whistle‘s & I mean all the bells & whistle‘s & it’s a great car in fact it was my 2nd Subaru & they’re just great cars & so I love the Subaru’s, but it’s not a Tesla! Also I appreciate the fact that you spoke about the 2 braking systems which most people leave out of their reviews for some reason & that’s a great benefit that doesn’t get talked about enough as far as I’m concerned & the one thing I will mention thstbyou left out your video was the over the air updates, that’s an awesome benefit & I don’t know of no other competing car manufacturer that offers that to its customers, so for me it’s hands-down nothing like the Tesla cars & I am particularly partial to the Model 3! I am currently considering whether not I will trade in my model 3 for the model Y! So once again great video thanks for posting it!👍🏾👍🏾

Great review Rory, but there are a few inaccuracies in here including car locking, roof strength, frunk/trunk opening. There's no mention of the pan-European Tesla SuperCharger network (a fabulous and rapidly growing feature if you want to travel long distances) or the regular over-the-air software updates that improve the car as it gets older. Aesthetics are always subjective and I love my Model 3 Performance from all angles, but I do see your point about the frog! The performance is blistering, the ride is sporty but not too harsh (I like that!), the internal space is more than adequate both for occupants and for luggage, the range is excellent (real world, about 280 miles), the feature-packed big screen is easily mastered within a day or two, the driver/passenger comfort is unmatched in my previous Audis and BMWs, it's one of the safest cars on the road by all crash standards, and its economy is about 4 to 5 times better than any of my previous cars. I'll concede that the build quality, although adequate, doesn't yet match the main German car manufacturers and, yes, you do have to spend several hundred pounds on a home charger for the best user experience, but the government allow for £500 OLEV grant, which eases the initial layout. Oh, and there's zero road tax. That's £0.00 every year! It was a bit of a leap of faith going from ICE to electric and a further jump selecting Tesla, but they're moves I'm so glad I made. I'm certain I could not have bought a more pleasing car for the money anywhere.

Some amazing shots & great review! ⚡️ Just quickly on some of your points, use voice commands to do simple task like opening the glove box. You lose range due to the alloys and performance setup so it’s impossible to get the long range as it’s the same battery, unless you changed alloys and took away the power output. The glass roof is safer than a metal one BY FAR so if it flipped this is the car you want to be sat in. You can unlock the trunk and frunk from the menu on the screen or voice commands. Aftermarket mods are available for electric truck and frunk if its too heavy for you 😂

No. No it is not. Every time I get in my M3 I resent the sound system and long for the premium stereo in my Mondeo. I have installed full systems in cars too, trust me it's far from great. It's okay. It has no stereo image, no separation and it's clearly missing in the lower-mid/upper-bass. I spent days playing with the completely useless 5 band eq. It can't be improved. Also the glass roof is one of the PROBLEMS, not the benefits! Highly reflective surfaces are the worst possible issue in a good stereo. Do they cover the walls of cinemas in fabric for reflectivity? No. Do home cinema amplifiers use complicated algorithms to remove unwanted reflections? To summarise, it's okay, but don't expect to be blown away unless you're used to very basic car stereos.

About the glass. It's built in a similar way bullet proof glass is made, with layers of glass. Some that fracture to absorb the impact, and flexible layers to keep the rest held together. Tesla's glass is so strong it broke the crushing machine designed to measure roof strength for roll overs. And it is the world's safest car. So safe it broke the safety star scale and got over 5 out of 5 stars.

As an owner my biggest pet peeve is the lack of blind spot monitoring on the mirrors. This is a logical no brainer, you look where traffic is not the screen, mirror, shoulder, then change lanes. It also has the benefit of letting other drivers know that they're in your blindspot. Otherwise aside from some minor build issues here and there, the car is phenomenal.

Tesla is also about to own the SUV segment with the Model Y, which is largely based on the Model 3, but taller and a bit longer. One decade behind is a good estimate. For example the Porsche Taycan cannot simultaneously meet the price, range or performance of the original 2012 Tesla Model S. That puts them about 10 years behind. Tesla Model 3 is even harder to compete with due to battery economies of scale, experience effects, etc.

Nice review, Rory. This is pretty much my car - M3P, RHD, blue with white seats. I got it last December and it has been amazing. A few points: 1. The colour balance on the camera seems to be a bit off. The blue looks much better in person (the short grab with the iPhone in the middle of the video was more true to life). 2. Many functions can be accessed with voice commands, so there is really no need to scroll through lots of submenus. 3. The glass in the roof is extremely tough. When they were testing the roof with a machine that applies tonnes of pressure, the machine broke before the roof did. With its low centre of gravity, thanks to those in floor batteries, there is a very low chance of roll over. 4. Once you pair your phone to the car and leave bluetooth on, you can just walk up to the car with the phone in your pocket and it will unlock for you. When you walk away, it locks itself. I have never had a problem with this. 5. The boot opening is fine. I have been on long drives with plenty of luggage and it is easy to pack and unpack. Opening and closing the boot manually is also fine. 6. I have never had or wanted a heated steering wheel, but maybe that's just me. 7. I think the seats are incredibly comfortable. 8. Some of the things you didn't; specifically mention: regular over the air updates, charging up to 250 kW, dash cam, Sentry mode, awesome sound system, very responsive touch screen, clear maps with traffic and excellent navigation.

Hi Ethan, only had it since Dec 2019 but the seats are fine. No discolouration or wear yet. I wear blue jeans - no issue. I was also concerned that the white dash would be distracting too, but it is angled so that it doesn't catch the light too much. Occasionally I notice a bit of reflection but it is not really distracting. There is some tire noise (and wind noise for that matter) but I think it is noticeable just because there is minimal noise from the motor (it does have a soft, pleasant, futuristic noise when you accelerate). I think the ride is firm but not really an issue.

A Tesla gives you a lot more bad days in case of an accident because of the long time you have to wait to get it fixed and if you don't have a approved repair shop close to your location that also means another bad day.

Am I the only one who is wondering why Rory is reviewing the Model 3 Performance without taking it to the track?? My goodness man, at HPT my Model 3 Performance is only 2 seconds slower than my Porsche GT4 on a 2.5 mile course and I haven't even begun to unlock all the potential in the new track mode upgrade. Not taking this car to the track as part of a review is a disservice IMHO. Would you do a review of a new GT3RS by taking it to the grocery store to see what it can hold? Don't even get me started on failing to show romance mode 😂🤣🤪 Otherwise a good and mostly accurate review...

Yeah, I’ve got some gripes too. Our SR+ takes a whole 5.3 seconds to get to 60 mph. Who’s it designed for...Mary Poppins? I can sprint a wheel barrow faster. The wife and I can’t understand why this thing keeps burning off Audis, BMWs and Jags...they must be having a bad day or something. How can a ‘squashed frog’ handle this well? And I’m right with you, why can’t you close the console storage lid with a mallet? It pisses me off!

I think you will find your SR+ is a bit faster now after the DEC19 Xmas update. The SR+ was given a new acceleration and motor output profile via OTA, adding around 5% to the power and increasing the acceleration at higher speeds. I don't know for sure but the SR+ should now be knocking on just 5 seconds 0-60.

If your phone's BT is turned off or not behaving, or the vehicle's BT is turned off, then yes you can't use your phone's proximity to auto lock/unlock.

I would not put it past Tesla to add sound, inside and out. Noise can be injected into the cabin via the audio speakers (many cars already do this like the BMW i8) and there are external speakers that will eventually be deployed for countries where EVs are required by law to make low speed noise to warn pedestrians. The pedestrians that aren't staring down at their phones with air pods jammed into their ears.

Great review Rory. I own a m3p and am blown away. As some.of the other comments have mentioned voice commands simplify some of the menu digging, the audio is sublime in the premium interior, the front end is a bug and chip magnet especially if your driving in sport mode which correlates with paint quality should be better to support this level of performance/speed. If left stock I'm sure the front bumper will be riddled with scores and chips. Other than that it's an absolute beast in motion and standing still.

A lot of people don't use the lock feature from the app but instead use their phone as a key which means it locks when you walk away and then unlocks when you walk up. Like you said, all things that take time with the car to figure out.

Great video! Worth highlighting some other points to prospective buyers: - There are aftermarket kits available to make both trunk and frunk automatic, if this is a deal breaker. - I wouldn’t say the UI of screen is complicated, a lot of features (like opening the glovebox) can be done using your voice. You get used to it very quickly (not 2 or 3 dozen years!) - You can open the frunk from the car. Other things I love: - Free over the air software updates which continuously give you new features, the car gets better over time. - It costs me less than 1p per mile in fuel when combined with the right energy tariff. - Words can’t explain the performance, it’s mind blowing. Could list so many more but these are just quickly off the top of my head!
