I had it for two days. This is by far the nicest and most relaxing car to drive, it is superb in every aspect. If I had to choose one car for the rest of the life, this would be the one. It is really as good as the reviews say. As for the range, I had RWD 58kWh hour model, and I was slaming it hard on highway, did some normal driving (50/50 mix of slaming to full and highway in 150km/h, and half 130 kmh highway and normal driving), it can easily do 380 kilometers, with 130 km/h on highway.

For a 90's kid that grew up with pixelated video games, the design of the exterior and interior for that matter just makes me tingle inside. Any retro-futuristic, cyberpunk design makes me salivate at the prospect of owning such a car, and I think that's the idea why they went with this. Most of us younger generation that started to afford cars are more interested in quirky designs than classic ones that you see in a Mercedes or BMW. At least that's my theory.

Rory - great review as ever, but you missed one of the most important points - the speed of charging. Speed of charge is as critical if not more so than range and this car can take the 350Kw chargers that are being built all over the UK. For long distance driving that's brilliant as it charges in I think 18 minutes from 10% to 80%. As an EV driver I can promise you this is the most significant step forward only previously available in Porshe Taycan or Tesla. Kia EV6 has the same architecture. These 2 brands are leading the way for EVs. Can't wait to see what they bring out in the smaller car sector. But as always the public charger network needs to keep up, which Gridserve thankfully are working hard to achieve.

Tesla is 400 volt and is slower on the charging curve. This is 800 volt like Taican and Audi GT. Insideev had some comparative test where the Tesla where it was like 10 minutes more for 10 to 80%, but had longer range. But if I am not mistaken it was against the Model 3. This truly is one of the most important tech of this car, its like more than twice as fast to charge than any of the VW meb platform EV. It has set a new standard in the normal consumer market.

Got to admit, for not being a huge Hyundai guy, this car does appeal to me. I like its design, cause it stands out (at least it does currently until other cars pop up in the near future from writing this). It seems like a nice step in to the direction of how EV's should be. Not just a vehicle to bring you from A to B, but something that also gives more than just being a drivable tool. This seems like it delivers that multi-purpose kind of satisfaction. Sure other cars do that too, and some may offer more luxury or comfort. But this seems to be a middle-route that divides other branches and their models. Off the car topic, I hope that the EU and the rest of the world start making charging stations in a more common frequency. Currently I feel like, despite there are a bunch, some areas in some countries lack a lot of them. Which may make people hesitate to get an EV to begin with. Perhaps Autotrader could do an episode about this.

So you are adding 100 km in 5 minutes...120 miles in 10 minutes..hardly enough time to take a pee and grab a flat white. I had a look at this car last week when I put my Kia e-Niro in for service, the Hyundai dealer is next door, they had two Ioniq 5’s in black...this is a big car! 3 metre wheelbase is a bit more than a BMW 5 series. Is it a great car for the price? Yep. I’ve been driving lesser Hyndais for the past 13 years, doing much of the maintenance as well. My experience gives me the impression Hyundai might be the smartest car company of them all. Control location and operation is almost perfect over the three models I have driven long term as well as the newer models I have rented. They make what we need.
