Now that you mentioned it I can't stop wondering too 😂🥳

I’ve had a model 3 for nearly 3 years now and it’s an awesome family car. Admittedly my 3 kids are now 15-10 years of age but with the frunk, you can go away for a week with all the coats, extra shoes and luggage for a family holiday and because of this the Tesla M3 is actually more versatile than most “family” cars. Extra usb chargers in the back and wireless charging in the front ensures all their phones etc are also used on long journeys and fully charged at the end of the journeys also which is fantastic for peace on holidays!! My eldest sons are 1.83m and they have lots of legroom and comfort in the back when me and my wife , 1.79m are in the front. Definitely the best family car we’ve had so far in most circumstances and the cheapest to run too! Nearly 3 years of ownership is surely proof of concept so if your “on the fence” about an electric car or Tesla model 3, I guarantee you that if you’re in my situation with 3 kids you won’t be disappointed.

my wife is clearly not cheating on me with you then ;) we are 2+1 family and she packs the entire bed of the 5'-8" ram 1500, I mean, the entire bed, to the level when I have to play tetris to fit everything. Our daugther is 2yrs old so yes there's a stroller etc but holy s*it sometimes I can't believe how much s*it I haul Calgary-Kelowna...

Yes, I have a M3P and my 6 and 2 year old love how much room they have and how much they can see out of the sun roof! Haven't taken it on a long trip yet! Mind blown with the trunk lid trick that seems like it opens up way more space! Thank you!

I have a e-Golf that is even smaller and we manage just fine. We switched from a Volvo S60 and there was no drama. 2 kids, with one stroller in the trunk.

Hi Björn, i had yesterday a 1800km Roadtrip, with 2 Kids, 1 Cat, Wife and myself, fully loadade with stuff and i can azure you that it has more trunk space than my ex MB T-Model C-Klasse. Fully loaded and with temp of 35 degree's. I had a consumption in avarage of 19.0kWh/100km - 20.0kWh/100km. Just awesome. But nothing ist perfekt, had like always lot's of Phantom breaking and Autopilot is good when you are alone at night with no other Cars.

Model 3 is a great family car. We have one kid and it is perfect. I think even you can manage with 2 kids. We also did some long road trips with lots of luggage (also to Norway :) ) never had any space issues. And my son he loves the model 3.

We have two kids. No problem at all. Before we had an Toyota Auris hatch with roofbox. We sold the auris and the roofbox. No problem at all. 2 bikes, bike trailer and stiff for 7 days. No problem...

our Cybex child seats came with an additional mounting help. Its a small plastic piece you hook on the ISO fix Points and then it is a breeze to mount anything there

Bjorn congrats for the baby! We're from Romania, also have a baby and he loves to travel, so obviously we travel a lot, we never had any issue with space (also traveled outside the country with all of the baby stuff (we have a sport baby stroller so it is smaller than yours) P.s. cybex products rocks!

M3P with two kids both using child seat + a wife placed in passenger seat. Have used the car for travels many times and that was no problem. I set the driver seat as far back as it goes, I like a lot of space. The kid behind me has just enough space. Will drive from Norway to Denmark this summer, as it has worked perfectly so far.

2 kids here (ages 6 and 9) We have used ou M3 LR in several vacations for two years now and driven several thousand kms without any problems. there is enough space in this car! 👍👍👍

I have a model 3, 2 kids (10 & 6y old, with car seats) and a little dog (who goes very happily in the footwell behind my wife’s seat as lots of room and my daughter is 6y old so her feet don’t go that far down so plenty of room for everyone. And as a bit older, seats are a little less bulky, and the rear arm rest can be dropped down, just about, which they like to put a drink, etc… We drove from UK to Madrid at Easter to see family (without dog) and my parents were so impressed how much luggage we managed to bring with us… under floor space in boot and frunk makes a huge difference!! Driving to France this summer, bike rack on tow hitch and will have no problem either!! That’s what I told my neighbours when they got a baby…, they went to buy a 2nd hand Volvo XC60…. I really don’t understand it.. 😤

Tesla has quick charge USB Type C in the rear- this is a must for 10yr+ kids for long roadtrips! Totally agree

Have a M3P with one kid, works fine, plenty of space with our „Naturkind“ stroller that is really chunky, also wheels left on. If we go on road trips, we usually put an Alumined Box on the roof for the stroller and other small stuff. I just don’t like the rear entry height, because putting children in that are 2+ years is a pain in the back, lifting them in. There, a Y or X are probably really scoring like a boss.

Actually no need for the bottom trunk. You put in the stroller with the wheels first and then you can kinda put the carry-cot on/over the frame. You just have to hold it a little while closing the trunk so it won’t slide down. Code cracked.

No problems and with 3 kids (now teens). Model 3 is significabtly bigger than what we had before we got it in 2018. Drove across the US a few times with two in back. Three in back can be challenging for long trips more than 1000km.

I have 3 car seats in mine. 2 diono radian and 1 combi coccoro. Will eventually be 3 diono radian. Works great. Fits a lot in the trunk and plenty of room for road trips. Don’t need an suv at all but the Rivian R1S at old pricing is too appealing to pass up.

I own a model 3 long range 2022, and have a baby on the way, great informative video.

To be honest, even a smaller sedan or hatch would be enough as a family car. It depends on each person. Pack light or bring the whole house. I came from an Alfa Giulia which is same segment but smaller insides due to ICE (no frunk, no understorage, trans tunnel) and manage just fine with kids. Now with the model 3 performance we simply have ‘too much’ space ;)

We have an even bigger baby stroller, no problem in our Model 3 as well 🙂

2 kids, 4 and 6. We even prefer the model 3 over our Porsche macan Diesel especially For long distance Trips.

We don‘t have a Model3, but a PS2 as our family car. Our kids are 2 and 4 years old. It works absolutely fine! We also do trips from western Norway to Germany with no problems. Used to drive an e-tron suv shape before.

So you went from 690L of space (boot+frunk) to 440L of space. Seems like an upgrade. I guess practicality isn't an issue when you have 2 kids

Going on holiday next week with a standard model 3 with one baby, stroller, luggages but also two keyboards and lots of music hardware because I'm also playing piano for a concert where I stay for holidays... Definitely gonna say that model 3 is perfectly fine for family trips thanks to the huge trunk and frunk. However I'm having troubles with the baby seat, it's making a lot of noise and like bumping and vibrating a lot, even though it's ISOFIX with front stand like yours. But maybe it's about the seat...

We have a Model 3 LR and 1 kid. Works fine, but there are some issues. For instance, it's a pain to get her in the backwards-facing seat because the roof is so low (don't have a rotating seat). And with a stroller in the back it doesn't leave much room for larger items we would typically bring for a holiday. So we are likely upscaling to a model Y or something else

Brilliant family car especially if kids a bit older without child seat or stroller. Road-trip with kids of 8 and 10 with medium sized dog In middle seat. Works great, I believe volume is 550 litres + frunk total 649 litres. Pretty much compared to a lot bigger cars. BMW X5 650 litres 😵

Yes, brilliant family car! 0-100km/h in 4,4 seconds. The kids will LOVE it. And so will I when they puke all over the place. The volume is 425L with boot+frunk together. It literally takes you 30seconds to Google that.

What about for a tall convertible forward facing car seat? It does not appear that the headrests in the back are removable. So would you not be able to use a top tether? Also the headrest would pitch the top of the car seat forward…would it? Have you tested that?

I have twins, model 3 is a bit small for the double stroller, but my model Y is massive and has lots of room for everything. An adult can even fit in the middle between the car seats if necessary.

center space is what to use if you have a single carrier. is that even possible to use on the model 3? as long as my daughter needed a seat of some kind, it was always center back, no matter what i drove.

I have a 2022 Model 3 LR, coming from Skoda Superb TDI (565 L boot space total) which is a big family car of 4.84m in length (15cm longer than Model 3). I am really pleased with Tesla storage space of 425L (main trunk) + 136L (under floor space) + 88L (frunk space) = 649L in Total, which is 84L more than in Tesla (almost the space in the frunk can be considered extra). The only win for the Skoda is the space leg in the rear, which also helps when comparing the boot space with the seats fold (Skoda has bigger number in this area). For a family with one 4y kid and a small dog is plenty of space when we travel long distances.

Safest spot is really the rear middle but there is no Isofix there in the Model 3. Next best is the one you mention rear passenger (aka rear right for left hand drive cars). 2 day trip with one baby and 2 cats and my Model 3 was loaded to the point that I couldn't fit an extra water bottle. And I can't really say that I packed everything, only the things that we needed. Model 3 is spacious and the frunk is a life saver in many cases but I would prefer something like model Y or bigger if I had more than one kid.

That rotating seat is amazing.

My sister just got this car seat with the roating base. Very practical for parents who are less strong to place the car seat in facing forward or backward. And too many moving parts in my mind. I didn't find this system as rigid compared to regular old-school car seats without a base.

Wonder if these cars seats are available in th US.

We have a M3 21, two kids one 7yo and one newborn, a bit more work then an suv but no space issues.

I wonder if someone was 6'2 (187cm) can they have a rear facing all in one car seat behind them? Also how is the "ride height"? Being taller it sucks to hunch down to a sedan to strap in a 1 year old. While the M3 is usable and very possible as a family car, it really does depend on each individual

I can say, I have 2 Kids and we have model 3 since 2019 and it just works fine! No need for SUV at all.

I just hope that the Model 3 will get updated with a hatchback in the future, or a Model 3 wagon version will be added. Bjørn, you are right, not everyone need a Model Y SUV with 7 seats, which is 600 kg heavier than the Model 3.

2021 Model 3 Performance - fitted a huge Danish Odder “barnevogn” in it no problem - Think that is the biggest baby carriage in existence. Just need to remove the wheels, which can be done in seconds, and was also needed in my BMW 3-Series wagon! We were sure we would need a model Y to fit kids, but after one year and 33k km in the M3P, I can say it’s the perfect family car for the family man who has a need for (responsible) speed 😀

I had a Model 3 LR AWD 2019. Now i ordered Model Y Performance. As soon as you buy babys first bed - you will rethink about Model 3 vs. Y ;-)

We have a Model 3. we have one kid, and another due in a month. The Model 3 fits it all, no problem. We hava the bugaboo fox stroller, uses only half the inner trunk. It folds to a very compact size. Will not switch out the Model 3 when the next baby comes.

We have a model Y performance and we've been using it with 2 car seats for over a year now. We're about to need a 3rd though...not sure if 3 will work. One kid will just be in a booster seat and the other one will be forward facing, so we think we'll be able to squeeze them all in depending on which seats we use. If not, we're not sure what to do because we don't want an ICE car and we are not sure that we can afford a Model X.

I didn't realize the 3 was so big. It's several inches longer than our Forester so the Tesla hatchbacks are larger than I'd want too.

I have 3 kids, 2 teenagers and a 7 year old boy. They love it in the Tesla model 3 LR. We are on holiday now, 1200 km roadtrip, no problem!

Just went on a road trip from Alabama to Ohio with wifiey and 2 kids in Graco car seat and luggage: no problem. Model 3 Standard Range RWD.

3 kids here. Two girls 8 and 10 and a boy 1.5 years. Vacation from norway to denmark, five people was no problem. Plenty of storage!

We went to MY from 5-series wagon. Only 1 kid thus far. One parent always in the backseat next to child and backseat in M3 sucks for adults, it’s weirdly close to floor. I’m 185 cm. Space for stroller in M3 is a lot worse than the old 5-series. My parents managed in smaller cars but it seems everything is getting larger, and more expensive. Anyways MY is less of a compromise when used to a 5-series.

got a M3 LR, one kid, using a BeSafe iZi Twist seat. works great.

At 7:20, this is where a SUV is so enjoyable because the entry is larger. I hate SUVs but you have to credit them for that advantage (and this is why I like my Bolt EV as it is slightly higher than a sedan, like my former Ioniq EV). I can’t count how many times I knocked my head (or scrapped my back) when bending to put the baby in the seat…

2 years with backward plus front facing seats plus luggage for small kids. It works but it is cramped even in model 3. Y now so much easier. Björn should do realistic test with real luggage plus baby stuff and not the airbag seat. I predict the baby will be bothered/too hot by the big airbag and moving to a backward facing seat for 1-3 yos it's a MUCH bigger seat if you have a good one. This last fact is the bottleneck for this and other cars since for example the front seat must be moved forward too much. Björn should try for example the Norwegian Besafe izi plus x1

Na, we had a BMW 3 series sedan and despite our stroller didn’t need that much space as yours (that thing is huge) we needed a roof box for weekend trips. Try to pack two additional suitcases into that model 3 and you’ll need a roof box as well. Tip for parents with smaller cars: don’t buy a stroller with a carrycot, but it with a baby seat instead.

Agree, after the #1 baby, carrycot is a waste of space. But M3 can eat all luggage for 1-2 babies.

Maybe if you're short or just have one kid..... Our Model 3 performance was not comfortable with two kid seats and stuff for a weekend. My Model S swallows everything for a weeklong road trip. The 3 was sold very quickly. Oh and picking up in laws from the airport with luggage....the trunk entry for the 3 was useless for getting the luggage in

@@ericvet8b good for you! We fit but absolutely not comfortable. We're not giants but both my wife and I are tall and anytime the kids were in the car, we desperately counted down to our arrival to our destination so that we could stretch out our legs. If the smaller car with a small trunk opening works for you then that's perfect but the hatchback and enough room where one of us could sit between the two kid seats every now and then when necessary (read a story etc) made a huge difference to our family. Perfect example of YMMV

@@socabronco I’m 180cm and my wife shorter…., so maybe that’s the difference.. yes, I can see if quite tall why you may need something bigger…, but maybe is not just the size but the seats, that could be a bit more comfy? 🤷‍♂️

I have two kids (9 + 11) and we drove from germany to sardinia last summer with a Model 3 SR - space was sufficient for all the luggage and stuff for two weeks.

Moin, we have the Model 3 with two kids and we have no Problems. Its better and easier with Tesla M3 as with most outher cars we have before. But for the security of the rear-seats, I use a cover for the hole seats (normaly for dogs) to protect the „vagan-leather“ for my childs fingers and feets ;) best regards TOBE

Hej, två små barn i model 3. Inget problem till och med mer plats för bagage än när vi hade BMW 320 kombi. Behöver absolut inte SUV. 👍

Tested model 3 but gave up, 2 kids wife and a French Bulldog with cage, Model Y will not fit well, maybe a BYD will work

We have the model 3 with the same stroller, same carseats and three kids! 😏 three kids in the standard family car Passat gte did not work, its more space inside the model 3 😌

Have LR M3 2kids (now 3;) 2xYear we drive 1k miles to Disney land Florida. No Problemo. 👍🏾. Britax stroller/KeyFit chicco.

Regarding the space, I considered the Model 3 for us as well (having top children) as a replacement for the "old" Hyundai Ioniq ( which works well too). But since we have now have a dog I decided to got with a Model Y

I have 2 kids (a baby and a toddler) and we have plenty of space in our model 3. Usually we take with us a stroller for the baby (fits in the trunk), a chipolino 4in1 scooter for the toddler that fits in the frunk, 2 laptop backpacks and 1 large backpack, but there still is plenty of room for groceries or whatever we might need to put in the trunk and we don’t even use the space under the trunk. Model 3 looks small on the outside, but it has a lot of space inside. Trunk+frunk is at least as big as the trunk in Mercedes E class which is one class up.

Mercedes e class has a boot of 540L while tesla model 3 has 445L (boot+frunk). Please educate yourself

@@Antraxx84 on Tesla website, on Model 3 page, it says that it has 649 liters. If they are lying, then I’m lying. However, I don’t see a reason for you being passive-aggressive. And I can tell from my own experience that E-class doesn’t feel bigger when you are inside, it might be in numbers, but it doesn’t feel.

Need a Model 3 Kombi for us with a dogs in a cage in the boot :)

I find my model 3 to be more spacious for driver and passengers than my 2020 BMW X3.

I have a M3 LR that I usually have two baby seats in. The problem is that our 9 month old cant sit alone in the back, so our older has to sit in the front since one adult needs to be in the back. And since there is no isofix in the front it makes a bit of an inconvenience. But otherwise everything is fine!

You call that a BIT of an inconvenience? I call it bad design. Petrol cars that cost less than 20k euro in Europe have isofix in the front.

​@@Antraxx84 there are many cars that dont have it. My previous Passat GTE didnt have it either. Saying there are cheap cars that has it says nothing really. I dont know if its a crash worthy-ness thing to not include it, or why its not more common.

Lol I have one infant and a toddler, big recaro car seats, stroller and bed, small kick bike for toddler, loads of luggage, and my 2019 Leaf just cobbles it all up no problems dont need to disassemble anything , I tried a model 3 and it was just a hassle managing kids with it compared to the leaf, low rear doors so you had to hunch when strapping kids in, tiny boot opening, it is a bad family car compared to ioniq5, leaf, EV6 and others IMO

Your stroller is so massive. Just replace it with a foldable babyzen yoyo, you'll be a happy dad and you can probably put 5 of them in the model 3 trunk with ease :) (an idea for a test ?). With the previous version of the model 3 (without the heat pump) it could even fit in the frunk but it's not longer the case in the new ones. And bonus: it can fit as a carry on luggage for your plane trips... We've been using it since birth (3 years with a model 3), 0 issue.

The most save seating position for the child seat is in the middle.

You can put a baby in the frunk easily. Throw a blanket in there some padding and you are good to go. No need to fit a baby chair. :D

You dont need SUV but it would be miles easier with one. Also, the fact that model 3 does not have a hatchback pretty much kills it’s practicality.

I had a hatchback before and I can say that the trunk entrance is big enough to not make much difference. Yes, you won’t be able to fit long and large items like maybe a rolled king size mattress or a door (because why not?), but you don’t do that on a regular basis and you can order online anyway.

Baby stroller fit in frunk. Silvercross Jet. Compact stroller for hand luggage

The problem for me with the model 3 is how much weight it can carry, if you put 5 under average weighing adults in the car you have put it to the max and can have no luggage with you.

3 kids, 2-,5-,7- years old - no problemo.. 3 babyseats without isofix at the back.. of course, you have to think to not take useless things with you.. for 2-kids families I would recommend Model 3

I switched to the Model Y from a M3 and gotta tell you, it's a huuge difference in terms of space. The M3 was fine, but it's so much easier with an Y.

I have two kids, wifey, and me. The kids are 12 and 14, so no stroller or car seats. But in their own way, our boys take up just as much room as babies, though in different ways. My 2021 Model 3 SR+ is an excellent fit for our family, around town and on road trips. Plenty of room, easy access to power for their devices, arm rest/cup holders between them, and comfy. 4 doors make for easy in/out of the back seats as well. And as you show, a ton of room for everyone’s luggage and stuff (wifey likes to overpack!). Keep in mind, before the Tesla, our family car was a Toyota Sienna. I agree - the Model 3 is a terrific family car.

Model 3 is so cramped, all the Model 3 owners commenting here are gymnasts, or just delusional.

Mankind had already survived 1000 years without SUVs and was able to raise their descendants 😜 Yes, a higher car is sometimes easier if you put a toddler, for example, but for my needs an SUV has more disadvantages than advantages, especially in everyday life.

The M3 is a good family car because Elon needed a weekend car for all of his kids.

C'mon Bjørn you can do better than this. I know it is an old stroller, but try an urban djungle. It fits perfectly, and you still have the trunk space below the lid for other luggage.

You don't need a SUV - i prefer a station wagon.

SUVs are pigs of vehicles with extra drag and weight. The only reason to buy one is if you truly need offroading ground clearance (at which point, you should buy a Wrangler or Bronco).
