    I don't understand how electronic parking brakes are legal. The whole point is to have a direct mechanical linkage that will always work, regardless of whether or not the hydraulic brake system or any electrical components are working. It's supposed to be a redundancy. An electronic parking brake simply has a vastly higher potential of failure than a braided steel cable does.

I think what we know as paint nowadays will soon be a thing of the past. It's just not durable enough and there are much better alternatives out there for covering your vehicle, something that WILL see abuse no matter how you baby it in something so brittle.

    Maybe its because I'm old school (80s guy), but I never have seen the attractiveness in "matte" finishes. As alluded to here, it makes the car look old, or like a completely primed car ready for the paint booth, or both. Whatever "cool" look it may have is only on a particular picture, at a particular angle. In real life, when you can see the car up close it almost always looks inferior to paint. I did a PPF, clear, glossy wrap on my Tesla Model 3 Performance, and it looks so much better in my opinion.

  • @yuehhtewbb427

    @yuehhtewbb427

    5 жыл бұрын

    In my case making the car look old was literally the point. I lived in a rough neighborhood and it would have been stoled within weeks of purchase if I didn't get it with a matte finish and no hubcaps.

  • @fetB

    @fetB

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@rayhend100 see, that's funny. I don't get why glossy is attractive. Glossy only looks "cool" in a particular picture, at a particular angle. To me, it has fairly severe effects on accentuating the body lines and features. Matte makes them rather clear or subtle contrary to glossy, which will blow them out or completely divert the shape. PS. I also dont get how it makes it look old. After all, its not the matte that makes old cars look old, but the splotchyness and scratches, paired with tacky chrome pieces. A purpose matte finish has a rather silk texture feel; quite the opposite from old or unfinished. That is of course, if we're talking anything but his particular shade of grey, which is obviously reminiscent of primer, but that has its own charme as well.

    In my 1985 M-B 300D, the designers used a short foam tube for the climate drain, which falls apart to soak the carpet and rust the floors. "Exquisite German engineering" but perhaps too many beers. Owners substitute a dishwasher adapter tube from Home Depot to fix 'er. The 300SD were even worse with long foam tubes along the tranny hump. That Tesla drain hose looks solid, but somebody (Rich?) cracked the drain nipple. In other climate drain issues, my 1996 Voyager was soaking the carpet which I first thought was the heater core but turned out to be overflowing condensate. I pushed a stiff wire up the drain tube (from lower engine bay), felt something like a float pop open and about a gallon of water poured out. First I heard of a Liquid Crystal Display leaking out the liquid. A search finds those are strong solvents (benzene and phenyls). Hope you washed your hands well before lunch.

    @GeraldMMonroe

    5 жыл бұрын

    To be fair they "literally can't go anywhere". The reason they are in that particular location is to shorten the length of a bunch of cables. Also it needs to be inside the interior of the car for access to AC- did you see that fan?. So with the requirements of "needs to have lots of cable access" and "lots of space" that spot is a pretty good one. But yes, they could have designed it better - to be easier to remove and swap, to not be hard to reinstall the drip tray that protects them, to not have a drain hose that is so vulnerable to failure. In a Toyota, while they might have done a similar design layout, the screen probably would have been genuine automotive grade and not leaked, and the drain hose probably wouldn't have failed.

    @@ke6gwf Yeah, I don't understand the infatuation with expensive tools. Companies like Snap-On are really able to capitalize on the convenience and financing. I know a mechanic who has at least $30,000 in Snap-On tools, including a $10,000 toolbox. I understand that you MIGHT want to buy "the best" for socket wrenches, pneumatic tools, or other tools with moving parts, but a wrench is a wrench and a screwdriver is a screwdriver, and I might rather have a full set in every size of socket rather than just a small set of 3/8" sockets for the same price. To contrast, I also know a contractor who swears by Harbor Freight compressors. He says that when you're hauling them around in the back of a truck and running them all day long 300+ days a year none of them last, not even the name brands, so why pay 3 or 4 times the price?

    What a sneaky way to start up a second tier repair chain without endorsing it When you think about it Elon might be right behind it, and provided a tech to do it Now if he gets taken to court he can say there are others who do repairs other than Tesla What a Genius he is, now all he has to do is supply some parts (through the back door) and all is done

    I own a computer repair shop in MN, seen that screen issue on dell laptops too. The fix is to break the screen down and remove the optic gel and reassemble. Not super fun!
